Can Z and Pav do anything to protest? (not that they would)

Try watching Hank's post game after being eliminated by the Bruins and tell me that's not a player on the verge of wanting out.

I'll save this post and bring it up for u 3 or 4 years from now when he retires as a wing captain with his jersey in the banners a few years later.

Interesting because I was fearful of the same thing. There is nothing that can force Datsyuk to return to play. Put yourself in his shoes. he is wealthy, his wife and kids live in Russia, he could easily replace the RW's salary by staying there and playing. He clearly was unhappy with the end of the year/direction of the team/etc... he is also 35 and getting beat up. He voiced his displeasure which is COMPLETELY out of charactor for him. If we still are the same team come August first, it would be really hard to get on a plan and come back.

I have mentioned this before. If you wan to force Babcok, Z, and Datsyuk out, could you write a better script to do it? Why would anyone of those 3 want to return/stay long term? Thios is very thin ice Holland is skating on and we the fans could be the ones to pay for his "liking our team".

His ex-wife and oldest daughter live in Russia. His new wife and newborn daughter live here. Zetterberg said in the HBO special that he and his wife plan to make the Detroit their home after he retires.

Alexei Kovalev just retired from a Swiss B League. These guys aren't like us. They play because they love the game on a completely different level. I expect them both to play until their bodies are no longer able and continue to be the ultimate professionals they always have been.

They were taught by Yzerman and Lidstrom and will retire like Yzerman and Lidstrom. Anyone who seriously suspects otherwise is reaching for the wings to tank

Nobody thought that Alfie would want to leave the Sens. Nobody thought that Gretzky would waive his no trade clause and leave Edmonton.

I'm not saying it would happen here, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

The Sens are a mess and never got Alfie a cup. Gretzky never wanted to leave, but had to be dealt for financial reasons that Illitch doesn't have. It's not impossible, but it's a stretch.

I think the Cup is the clear breaking point with certain guys. Gretzky is unique, but career team guys are going to be a lot more unlikely to leave if they've already gotten their Cup. Even if Dats and Z didn't have Cups, it's still really hard to even call it a stretch though, especially with Dats and Z. Dats is a lot more shy than I think people realize which would likely make it harder for him to decide to go to another city and NHL team late in his career, and I think Z is pretty damn content in Detroit.

Bottom line, these guys are too classy to actually "protest" as was originally suggested, and the only thing players like Dats and Z could ever do that comes close is ask for a trade, and it's just next to impossible to imagine.

Things may be bad, but like I said earlier, if it gets bad to the point that one of them is seriously trying to get out early, that should be an indicator that things are way, way, way more f***ed up than any of us even realize, and we should not be longing for that day. It's bad enough now...

I did and his interview after. He was upset after losing to Boston in his first game back. He didn't want to talk to anyone. He was much more optimistic about the teams future in the next interview.
