That's why I've mentioned at least the third round would have been nice while Godström was still playing. Like I've admitted many times the youth movement is nice and I like watching them.

We differ when it comes to 2014 yeah making the playoffs was an unbelievable coaching job and smart decision to sign the hometown boy DeKeyser even if it didn't work out I would have had no problem with missing the playoffs and standing pat.

Standings are nice and all but it will amuses me when people are talking about the playoffs before a team has made them (that goes for all fanbases not just us), as far as I know ~ 96 points are needed and the best teams haven't even clinched 70 points yet so why not wait till it's mathematically impossible to miss them and then talk about improvement ?

I mean sure it's possible to use other base years let's say last year and this year ...if they make the playoffs and take whatever team Wings are going to face to 6 games that would be an improvement - although marginal - but still. But a lot can happen in the remaining games I'm not going to mention it because karma but right now no team should feel save. Look at the Predators they've been really dominant and 1 injury to the best goalie in the league and they are struggling.

My main point from my last post is we are improving. I'm not saying we are in the playoffs, i'm not saying its in the bag. Just, as we sit here today on February 3rd, 2014, we appear to have taken our game to another level from last year. It of course will take hard work to stay at this level, but just like before the season I have faith in this team. I love the roster Holland has assembled.

In regards to playoffs, evaluation depends on the opponent/situation. Losing to a better team in a battle I can accept (ie. Chicago 2013). Losing to an inferior team, is something I will not be happy with. Lets just see what happens.

See I've said nothing else since the disappointing - yeah I know some don't think so - off-season. I've just went in with no expectations at all if they make the playoffs fine, if not I won' t be disappointed and the young guns will still be one (although a tough one) richer. Do I like the roster/playstyle ? Not really I believe it could use a more size, grit and truculence but that's a discussion for another topic. Of course I wouldn' t have been disappointed with a top pick either especially in such a deep draft.

Yeah well it's better than expecting too much and be disappointed at the end.

So what is it ? Expecting the cup each year is seen as too much but being realistic also isn't right...

Nowhere are you being "realistic" frank.

You don't like the makeup of the team so you don't want to see them do well to give yourself satisfaction.

You genuinely seem sad that the team is doing well. And that's a joke.

LOL I've said I'm not expecting much this year and wouldn't have been surprised if they didn't do well. I've also said that I'll reserve judgment till some things are impossible.

I know for myself what a joke is and what isn't I don't need you or some of the other "Holland is god and we pump the thread after every win with another 2,5 words posting" telling me about their definition of a joke , thanks.

And guess freaking what if they make the playoffs I'll be positively surprised shocking I know..

Translation...

Saying "I'm not expecting much" allows me to say "I told you so" if we don't do well in the playoffs. But saying "I'll reserve judgement" allows me to not be totally wrong if we go ahead and do well in the playoffs.

Conclusion...

Sitting on the fence, while uncomfortable to look at, still appeals to a particular type.

You don't expect much from this team but are somehow reserving judgement at the same time?

Explain to us how that works Frank.

You don't get it. He's not judging them. He's "not expecting" them to do anything. You can't be in judgement of something through omission. Here, I'll show you.

Not expecting someone to be innocent is not the same thing as judging them guilty.

Not expecting a racoon attack is not the same thing as judging it unlikely.

Not expecting Michael Bay films to be good is not the same thing as judging they'll be bad.

Not expecting someone to say something meaningful is not the same a judging that their words are meaningless.

See. It's a way to be in possession of two conflicting points of view at the same time. Because you've committed to neither. The obvious benefit, of course, is that you can never be wrong.

See, I don't even think it's that clever.

Holland is god

I'm not expecting Ken Holland to be the creator of all time, space, matter, and energy. Nor do I expect him to redeem my everlasting soul. But I'll reserve judgement until all the facts have come to light.

And if he IS God, and if he seems to be doing a good job of being god, I'll STILL reserve judgement until I find out how truculent he is.

Will he be a loving, merciful, diminutive god of european decent, or will he be Don Cherry's god: beastly and gritty with a slight south Bawh-ston accent?

I like it because it's kind of a catch all for all the rampant stupidity that dorks like us can find to talk about. It's like a catch-all for absurdity lest if spill into other areas. You can't be off topic in a thread that had no meaningful topic to begin with.
