TANK IT! 2014-2015 Season

Maybe I'm a bit sentimental but I still believe their should be a middle ground.

Best UFAs will be: Franson, Boychuck, Ehrhoff and of course Staal

Spezza, Fleury re-signed during the season. Williams would be a nice gritty depth player

Ah, I must have missed the Spezza and Fleury signings. I actually thought that the Pens would let Fleury go if they didn't have more success in the coming playoffs. He has played well this season, though.

I think if we sign a free agent, it'll only be to fill that D spot (Franson, Green, Boychuck, Erhoff). Otherwise, I think it'll another offseason of no movement and add by subtraction. Cleary leaves to make room for Pulkinen, Andersson makes room for Callahan/Ferraro, Monster-Mrazek. If no trade/signing, maybe Lashoff-Marchenko, and hopefully Kindl-Oulette. Then the following year Quincey-Sproul. That could be great for us. I'm all for a trade if it gets us what we need without too much sacrifice or picking up a FA if the price isn't outrageous, but our recent "worst offseason ever," as some called it, should show that no movement isn't necessarily a bad thing.

That's why it's by far the hardest trophy to win in all of sports the salary cap, revenue sharing and some **** CBA rules have made it even more difficult but I don't agree that you have to lose in order to learn how to win it all. Young players need confidence and experience but getting slauthered against Boston might not have been the best experience (if Detroit makes it they should use that as motivation if possible).

God that 2002 team how do I miss them may be one of the best rosters ever and what a great year that has been :(

I think that some of the loss to Boston and the statistical disappearance of the young guns taught them they need to keep cranking it up a notch for the playoffs. They were strong down the stretch, but either they felt "mission accomplished" after getting in and were just happy to be there (like the 1995 finals) or didn't fully get the need to take up to yet another level due to their inexperience.

Well Boston was just too good in every aspect of the game. I think the young guns were surprised with how different the compete level in the playoffs is.

I also think some players were just gassed too after fighting tooth and nails to even get into the show.

I'm not about to go and make out the KH is a God or anything, and yes there have been moves I've disagreed with, but I think you have to give him a ton of credit for changing his philosophy.

Let's face it. The odds of winning the Cup are pretty slim. It's the reason why it's the hardest trophy (IMO) to obtain. How many teams have we seen in the Cap era who have traded away their future in the aim of building their team up only to falter and then slip into oblivion for a few years?

The Wings have at least, been consistently competitive since the lockout. Maybe not where everyone wants, but the fact still remains that you make the playoffs = you have a shot. Thus, it seems to me that KH and co realised that the way to maintain longterm security and a great team was to go this route we are currently seeing coming to fruition now. Build up and grow your prospects well enough, don't make trades or FA signings that will handcuff you, and add the right pieces only when the time is right.

To me this is exactly the problem. Holland appears to be briliant because a few of the talking heads identify that "this is the year the Wings don't make the play offs" and his teams continue to make the playoffs.

That said he builds the best teams and better than anybody else that relies virtually entirely on the draft. He builds a skilled, determined team with guys that have character. Holland has always gotten the most of the draft. But just making the playoffs every year is bad when it becomes obvious that your team is not built for the playoffs & when you autopsy the season and look at everything the forwards have to do defensively because the D us under served it is not favorable. This is where we are at. FA's think we are too far away so guys that Holland is willing to overpay a bit go to Washington; or they take less than Holland was going to pay to go to pitsburg or with the exception of Danny who is from the area and played with Nill's kid and was brought to the Joe his whole adult life to meet Nick & walk through the dressing room they choose to go to Edmonton (Shultz, whome the Wings wanted).... when your number 2 D (is number 2), and you don't address this players take note. When you are unsuccessful in over 6 years to bring in a guy to help the team & to steward the tallented guys coming up it is a failure.

Who cares about making the playoffs every year if it handcufs your ability to assume risk where it is meaningful. Legwand was not meaningful. I don't see anything meaningful this year & I don't hold him accountable for that. What I hold him accountable for is failing 6 years in a row to supliment his skilled drafting and player development.

Guess you missed the memo about retooling instead of a rebuild. And the retool finally seems to paying off.

Guess he also missed the memo on the Wings management caring about making the playoffs. Clearly it's a priority to them.

But.... I thought the Wheelz were on tha TANK!!!

In all seriousness, if things come together in the near term for the Wings with Cup win number 12, and the playoff streak has stayed intact, how awesome is that?

It won't happen because kh won't over pay to bring in any players now whole our window is still open, before pav&z decline so much that they no longer carry the entire team.

I'm joking, because thinking this way is a joke, and it makes me think of you as a clown, who needs to learn to juggle better. Now dance jester!

Ha.

YES we're still crop topping it that's the only solution

I guess we define paying off differently.

You sound like a spoiled child who didn't get all 23 toys they wanted for one birthday. so youre suggesting we throw a fit and smash all our other stuff and keep whining till we lose the 6 cool shiny new toys we got, and get grounded to our room indefinitely... Edited by jimmyemeryhunter

From your posts you sound like a 16 year old that doesn't know anything about hockey.;
