I generally agree with you guys as far as trade values, but honestly, did anyone think Kenny would give up Jarnkrok and a 2nd for David Legwand on an expiring contract, or a 1st for Kyle Quincey?

You really can't blame people for having strange views on trades, it's not like trading has been done competently in Detroit in a while. People don't really have much to base their opinions on.

I personally agree with darkmanx I mean its going to take way more for a guy like myers and is it worth it in the end? a lot of ppl are down on Dustin Byfuglien but honestly I think he would cost just alittle less than Myers would and I think he would be a decent fit I know a lot of ppl are down on him because his a big guy but he could do wonders with kronwall if he gets on a good fitness Idk I wouldn't want to lose are core young guys to take a major risk but I know we have to improve on d somehow this summer or we are in big s***

I totally agree. I was being a smart ass about how bad Holland had been at trading lately. I agree, it would take more than Helm and a first. I also don't think it would be worth it, because Tyler Myers isn't very good.

I'm a little torn. On one hand I disagree with some of the opinions that Tyler Myers is a total scrub the kid had two elite level seasons, I don't know what happened since then but he was a teenager and those kind of things don't just happen. If you're ever gonna take a chance on a player a 6'7 23 year old with 2 great seasons under his belt is the guy. On the other hand I'm not too keen on trading away our developing talent. Right now Tatar and Nyquist feel like Fil and Hudler 2.0 new and improved and it's been a while since we've had some impact forwards break in. I guess I wouldn't be mad either way, as long as we don't trade for any former Wings (are any out there?). :no2:

Manxy Manxy Manxy....Helm, Kindl and a 1st would bring in more than you think...but you can just keep attacking my post's without mature discussion or thought intriguing responses because you yourself do not know how things work. You also lol'd and put the little shaking head emoticon up there when I said that Ehrhoff would get around $3.5M to $4M as a UFA because of his buyout, and you just decided to try to discredit my knowledge of hockey and my touch on reality....but wait, what exactly did he sign for?

Do me a favor, do not reply to my posts anymore or just hit the ignore button and don't read what I put up here. Thank you.

And for the record, the response "This isn't NHL xx" is getting about annoying as Holland kicking tires... I don't even play NHL xx...

Helm Kindl and a 1st actually isn't so bad. Add in a 3rd or another bottom 6 roster player like Andersson and you get Myers I think.

Look back at the Dion Phaneuf trade. There were more pieces involved and more things went back Toronto's way, but Toronto gave up Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman, Jamal Mayers, and Ian White. They got back Phaneuf, Aulie, and Sjostrom.

Helm is like a Stajan and you could argue that a first and Kindl together are as valuable as Ian White at the time

Also, that was four years ago. For every manager not named Ken Holland, trade values have gone down. Gorges went for a second (how the hell did Buffalo manage that, seriously, and to think we have Quincey for a first...). Garrison went for a second. Myers has more upside but that's why he's going for more than that..

Garrison going for a second might have been the best deal made last week. While he's no means a superstar, a 2nd for a guy that can move the puck, run the powerplay, and give you 30-40 pts., is a steal. I'd have given a second for him...oh wait...what happened to our 2nd again?

Edit: Also, how does everyone feel about this Mike Green speculation? He's got dynamic offensive skills from the back end, despite his pretty obvious lack of defense. But most importantly, I can't imagine that his cost would be too high given his injury history, expiring contract, big salary, and defensive limitations. The downside, of course, is that he's not great defensively and he's expensive, but I don't think there's any doubt he can move the puck and quarterback a PP. For me it depends on if he's finally got the injury woes behind him.

It's all about which team needs the trade more.

In the Garrison and Georges trades, both Van and Montreal wanted to move those guys.

In the case of Tyler Myers and the deadline deal for Legwand neither Buffalo or Nashville were overly interested in trading their guys, but Holland was desperate.

I would definitely be willing to make a trade for Green. He shouldn't be too costly, being on an expiring contract, a possible rental (don't bring up the Legwand trade). I think he could be had for Andersson, a mid level defense prospect (Backman or Jensen?) and a mid to late round draft pick?...

We won't be able to pawn Kindl off to the Caps because they already have 8 defenseman, hence the reason for trading Green in the first place. So the only way that would work is if, either us or the caps had another trade in the works to offload a defenseman or if it was a three team trade.

Green would definitely help out our team in a big way, and we could finally have a power play that is a threat again. Yes, he's a liability on defense but he can't be any worse than Kindl back there...

Rick Zombo, that's exactly why we could benefit by going after a guy like Green. The Caps do need to cut a defenseman and from their perspective, Green definitely makes the most sense. Niskanen can basically replace Green's production while being better in his own end. Plus the fact that he has a fairly large cap hit and only has one year left on his deal, makes him the perfect candidate to trade. I'm not saying we would necessarily get him or that we wouldn't over pay, but I think he is definitely our best option, going trade route.

I believe the Caps, or somebody, said recently he's not on the block.

Link? Everything I've been reading says that Green will most likely be traded in the next couple months. Most likely before the season starts.

It was just up on nhltraderumors rumors. That's all I read now to but I believe it's just someone speculation nothing from Washington actually wanting to trade him.

Another thing about Green is, I'm not sure how bad he really is defensively. I mean, I'm positive he's not going to be some stud shutdown defender. But I always take reports about Washington players being "lazy" or "bad defensively" or "not a team player" with a grain of salt. They've bred a culture of lazy, defensively irresponsible, play for years. When guys go there, they play poor defense and are lackluster, and when they leave they play good hockey.

I think part of the reason why they picked Trotz was to change all that. Green has the skating and size to be a decent defender, not great...but decent. Like Rafalski. Could Green be that for someone other than Washington? I don't know. But I'm pretty positive he's never, in his entire career, been asked to be up to this point.

The question to me is simple:

Does Green's offense make up for his defensive liabilities ? If not we would be worse with him if it does, might be worth a chance if the pricetag is right (meaning no Nyquist, Tatar, Jurco, Sheahan, Mantha, 1 st...).

That's the big question you would ask regarding Green. Would you rather have a guy whose not very good defensively for $6mil or take a chance on Sproul to start the season and then try to trade for Green should it be determined that Sproul need more seasoning? Sproul would save $5mil approx for the trade deadline, whereas Green will bring us up to the cap once Deke and Tatar are re-signed.

I'll be ok if we get Green cause he'll help our PP, and if he's on with Ericsson then he'll have a stay at home guy to play with, but I'd still rather see Sproul.

This is just me being a fanboy. But I'm always ok with the idea of "going with Sproul". This kid is going to be the next Doughty. He was an absolute steal. Size, speed, shot, athleticism, smarts. I legitimately think he'll be a better player than Mantha even, but that's just me.

Anyway, back on topic. Green would help, but I'd definitely not trade too much to get him. AND it would be wise to dump salary where you could to offset the acquisition (Kindl and Andersson).
