It would be very unwise to trade Jurco. He's the only top six potential guy with size. I'm sure holland wouldn't trade him for that reason

Totally agree. Too much potential to trade him. I really do think the most tradable asset we have is Tatar, as far as players go for teams wanting a player that can be put in their lineup right away. I'd love to see Tatar remain a Wing no doubt, but in the end the team does need to get bigger, and if Tatar can be packaged for a legit top 4 righty, I think it would be foolish to not do so. Of course this is assuming the right deal is made.

My primary concern is that Green might make Quincey look like a 'All-Star' caliber Dman.

This - and if we do it will be someone the fans don't even want (someone washed up) who will make it harder for kids to get a chance.

Is there a kickstarter campaign for Jakub Kindl to never play another NHL game?

Chelios is still probably in great shape!

Pavel datsyuk is the best player in the world because he snatches the puck from unsuspecting players and  follows it up by the simultaneous undressing of the defence pairing. The goalie then gives up, and flops like a fish. The end result is a calm skate back to his bench  where he can bask in the praise of his multiple girlfriends from the motherland.

Getting Weiss back from injury will be our big free agent signing.

According to my profile, my reputation is excellent. LOL.

Mantha?

FWIW I would rather trade Tatar than Jurco.

I'm assuming he means NHL-ready top 6 forwards. As promising as Mantha is, he has yet to prove a thing in pro hockey.

Holland coming back from his obvious brain damage could be our big off season acquisition.

Holland must have suffered a traumatic brain injury recently (that or drugs). If he wants Green you KNOW he is going to overpay.

Targeting Green, Face to Face, Kick Tires, We Like Our Team...I agree with all of you, if Holland does acquire Green, it will be at a ridiculous price paid.  Too much, I think, for any of us to like.  I do like the fact that there is attempts to get a player to help this team, but after this disastrous off season, Green would just walk anyway.  Why would he want to play here?  He could take a lot less (or not be lowballed by Holland) to go to a team that has a better chance to win.  Holland WILL lowball him next summer, Green WILL sign with a different team for cheaper or a bit higher because they are a better team.  Unfortunately for Holland the UFA Extravaganza is more than over, so he needs to go back to acquiring the players via trade...and that means draft picks and players.  You once traded one of your best playoff performers (Kozlov) for a gaping hole need (Hasek.)  Make the move, up the ante a bit.  Offer a NHL player in place of that top prospect.  Helm, Franzen, Ericsson, Smith, Andersson...do not overpay, but you can sweeten the deal with a NHL regular rather than a top prospect.

A goalie a few years removed from a Cup victory playing behind the Hall of Fame roster is a gaping hole need? I think not. Was it a crazy opportunity to get a legendary goalie? Sure. I'm not taking anything away from Hasek, but Osgood would've won that Cup in 2002 for us.

I admit that I was excited about the Hasek move initially like most, despite what it meant for Osgood and Kozlov, but I was never convinced we needed to do it. The guy was great, no doubt, and I have a lot of respect for the way he carried himself after getting pulled in 2008. But again, I just don't think it was a move that needed to be made, and I think it was short-sighted to move Kozlov for the very reason you mentioned. And the drama that Hasek brought into the organization as time went on did not do us any favors at all.

Osgood is not a legendary individual goalie like Hasek, but he's always been underrated, and he definitely proved more than a few times that he knows how to get the job done in the playoffs. He had off post-seasons, but so does every goalie. No goalie is lights out every year, and the reality of the matter is that more often than not, Osgood wasn't the reason the Wings were folding in the playoffs. Had we stuck with Osgood in 2002, I think we still win that Cup, and moving forward, we have a team that is ultimately more stable in the goaltending department. Skip the whole Cujo/Hasek drama, skip Manny Legace deluding himself into believing he's a legit starter and his playoff implosions, stick with the guy who started and finished a Red Wing, brought us two Cups, and came within one game of bringing us a third despite a depleted roster. And hell, maybe with a little less goalie drama in the years that followed 2002 when we still had a solid team, we might've gotten close or even won another.

Again, I don't mean to take anything away from Hasek's status as one of the all-time great goalies, but I don't think we needed him, and I think we paid a much higher price for making that move than it was worth in the long run.

Kozlov and a 1st round pick...in which they traded to Atlanta who used it to pick Jim Slater.  Between the #30 pick and our next one at #58 a few good players went that is for sure: Jared Stoll, Trevor Daley, Matt Greene, Matt Stajan and Duncan Keith would is the best of that group, but you know as well as I do, even if Holland had that #30 overall he more than likely still would have taken Hudler with it. (He was the #58 pick.)  Drafts are always hindsight, no gurantee they would've have selected Keith or Stoll, but the price of Kozlov and a 1st, was a great price to pay for Dom Hasek.  My point being, instead of protecting the like of Helm or Smith or Franzen, toss one of those guys in the mix (they are ALL replaceable) and take the Mantha's, Jurco's, Tatar's out of the equation. They are your future, and if Green comes here and loves the youth direction, he may re-sign.  If he comes here and the team piddles around with them same old roster and barely makes the playoffs and peter's out with their tale between their legs, he is as sure as gone as a UFA.

I'd honestly rather trade Franzen and re-sign Alfie for Franzen's cap hit....Green would replace Smith and Sheahan has an upside that would replace Helm.  I am not saying trade all these guys for Green, but if Helm and a 4th gets it done and we retain our future, do it. If Franzen and a 2nd or Smith and Helm...I don't know.  I just think that throwing Tatar or Jurco in the mix, when more replaceable, better assets are available, is the wrong move.  But Holland from then, is not Holland today, he is a ***** and is really dimwitted.  He has lost touch of reality.  The signing of Cleary and Quincey over just letting the kids play is just lunacy. I understand players didn't want to come here for this or that reason, but there would have been nothing wrong with giving Ehrhoff 5 years at $4M or Stralman 5 years $4.5M.  Stralman at 5 years would not have hindered the development of Ouellet or Sproul or Marchenko.  Quincey would've been gone and he could've dumped Kindl.  Holland is not fit to be a GM anymore...at least not for my favorite team.  I say there should be a changing of the guard, let Holland move on to the Toronto's and Carolina's of the NHL world. Let him take his "genius" elsewhere.  Its time.

let it be noted and reminded that 5 years is what both Ehrhoff's and Stralman's camp asked for from Holland.  It wasn't even a money issue, it was length.  Now, Ehrhoof is going to shine in Pit and wind up with a $6M+ deal next season from someone when we could've had him for 5 years at $4M.  That's Holland for you.  Instead we have #KFQ for two years at $4.5M...
