The only way he doesn't end up playing is he is sent down to the minors AND every single Red Wing forward stays healthy for 82 games. There is always someone injured, i'm sure Jurco will get his playing time in and by then end of the year be playing every game. I meant doomed in terms of starting the season with the Wings and then staying for the season. I have no doubt he'll get called up and play at least 20 games at some point. The only saving grace here though is if management sees that Cleary has a horrible camp and decides that they've had enough. Dano is going to get his 10 games to shine, regardless. Last year he was given a pretty long leash, though, and played pretty long after he'd proven ineffective. Hopefully, they'll take a few yards of that leash this year. If he comes to camp healthy, he should without a doubt be capable of producing as a third line support guy. The big question is whether or not he is finally healthy... I don't like this signing any more than any other Wings fan, but I do have a ton of respect for Dan Cleary and for the Wings management (Ken Holland) for honoring their handshake deal from last year. I find it very difficult to believe that some Wings "fans" are actually hoping Cleary fails. ******* ridiculous... I have a ton of respect for Cleary. But I'm completely divided on this issue. Part of me wants Danny to have a real strong season, but then the other half of me wants several prospects - Jurco and Mantha mainly, to play better than him in preseason so they force managements hand into playing them full time in the NHL this season. More so for Jurco than Mantha, but you get the point. I don't want Cleary to fail or suck though. But part of me feels its time to move on and properly make the young guns transition. Unless he found some magic pills that healed them, he shouldn't be anywhere near an NHL ice surface. If they really wanted him back he should have gotten a tryout deal. Now I'd he doesn't make it the Wings are stuck with 2.5 mil in cap hit because you know he'll get his 10 games in. I have nothing against him, and have a lot of respect for him. But unlike Aflie (who could, if he plays like last season, could contribute 20 goals), a full season of Jurco would most likely end up with 20 goals, and a very productive 3rd line. I hate to sound jaded here, but when it comes to all things Dan Cleary, I know exactly what to expect from Kenny and co. He's going to get his ten games, because Ken Holland promised him that money. If Dano could be a 20-20 guy again I would be totally content. I don't care who the player is - if he produces for this team, or helps it win in some other fashion, I appreciate his contributions. Even if he did play 50+ games and produce 20+ points, he's not going to be adding anything to the PK, I think, as his speed and mobility have taken a huge hit. The issue is, he's not that guy anymore, and smart money says his knee is too shot for him to make any kind of comeback. I would have preferred either of these two scenarios... I would have liked that extra spot on the team to be up for grabs in camp. Any one of Jurco, Pulkkinen, Mantha or Nosek could push for the spot. Not sure any would be 100% ready, but it would be great to see them battle and find out who would push the most for the spot. On the flip side, I do think we already have a ton of offensive talent up front. Maybe that spot could have gone to Ferraro or Callahan for duty on the PK. Sheahan might see more PK time with Weiss returning, but outside of that, Helm and Miller are the regulars. Glendening and Andersson can play on the PK, but I'm not sure how often they'll be in the line-up. I just think either option would have been better.
