I think management really sent a message to Kindl when they benched him for game 5 vs the Bruins and played Ouellet (who I thought played great).

At this point, I'd really prefer them to roll with one of the kids than have Kindl back there. I get that it takes longer for D to develop, and if we had a much more bonafide top 4, then I think we'd be willing to be a bit more patient. But the fact that our D is this teams weak point, and that we've got 4 promising prospect who might be NHL ready or near to it, means that really we should be making those last two spots an open competition.

And I agree with everyone on Lashoff, except that last year he did step up his physical game. I distinctly remember Ken and Mickey making note of it at one point. But still, he's a serviceable 6-7 at best.

I agree with most of that save for Lashoff he is one of the - way too few - players who are willing to take the body on this team

i find it a bit unsettling that Holland and Dekeyser both say........"nothing to worry about". If that is the case, whats the problem?

It's pr speech.

Go ahead and buy your jersey. There is a zero percent chance DeKeyser doesn't sign. I believe he will be yet another career Red Wing.

As high as I am on Mrazek, I wouldn't buy his Red Wings jersey yet... I do think he will be a great goaltender in this league but you never know with goalies. There have been plenty goalies more highly regarded than Mrazek that didn't pan out... Just my advice, take it for it's worth... probably not much...

Agreed on Mrazek, especially considering his size. If he had the same attitude and work ethic and was 6'34 I'd buy the jersey tomorrow. But his stature will always be a concern until he shows it doesn't matter in the NHL. I'd love for him to be the next Quick...but I'm not holding my breath. Hell, we currently don't have a good enough defense for him to be the next Osgood.

6'34" eh... You have some high expectations for goalies. Better give Yao Ming a call

I'm not really one to bash the Quincey signing. As others have said recently, he's not as bad as he's made out to be. That said, this made me LOL.

"The Red Wings’ lack of a high-profile free agent signing in the offseason has been highly discussed in the weeks following July 1, but the absence of a big move could be a move in itself.
“I think it’s a big positive,” defenseman Kyle Quincey said. “We have a structure and a system that we know inside and out, and game one … we know each other, we know exactly what to expect. We know the system, so we’re going to hit the ground running.”

You don't say? Kyle Quincey thinks the Red Wings failure to replace him, which subsequently ended in his getting re-signed (with a raise), is a "big positive". No s***.

In terms of kindl, he and DD made a real good pairing two years ago when kindl had his so called breakout. So if kindl is here I want him with DD.

Kron- smith

Kindl-DD

Quincey- big E

Ideally tho I would want

Kron-smith

DD- big e

Quincey- marchenko/oullete/sproul

It also is going to boil down to Howard. If Howard turns it around and plays solid in the next year and Mrazek is truly NHL ready, he's likely going to turn into trade bait unless they decided to deal Howard instead. I can't see them keeping a solid Howard and an NHL-ready Mrazek on the same roster in this day and age, especially given that we're not exactly overflowing in trade-worthy assets.

Plus they talk highly I Patterson as well. I def wouldn't be surprised if mrazek was traded at some point(I said that last year as well).

I think he will get at least one full season to backup Howard (ie. Quick/Bernier situation), but after that I agree with what you are saying.

I agree with kliq, I think they will definitely give him at least one full season backing up before they ship him out. As I said, I think it's hard to place Mrazek as the next coming but I would be disappointed if we traded him away at this point in his career, even if Howard plays lights out for the next year or two. I don't see any problem with a solid 1-2 for a year and up both players trade value before you have to make a decision.

trading mrazek and keeping Howard would be the worst decision since "the choice." don't make another mistake like that!

btw, get DD signed! If you have to waive Q and K to free up enough money, do it. Danny is better than either of them.

Unless of course Mrazek is the next Blaine Lacher Jim Carey (not the actor) or Andrew Raycroft.
