NEWS FLASH:

Daly and Bettman are f-ing liars and have been for years. The denials about Vegas just a couple months ago were taken by many to be confirmations. That's what happens when you're known for lying through your teeth on a regular basis.

Now what else have they denied recently? Oh yes...all of that about Seattle, Toronto 2, etc etc

Every game will be sold out and the arena will be empty. The casinos will buy the tickets and give them to guests who won't use them.

There will be 80 drunk fans of the opposing team that made the trip out. "Wooooooo! Let's Go HHRed HHHWings! hic! ".

I like the idea of the Panthers just moving there. Why have an expansion, when you have a franchise that is struggling to stay afloat?

I like the idea of Las Vegas having a team, but if they continued to struggle, they would have more "fans" in the concourse playing the slots and watching TV monitors, than actually sitting in the arena.

Tack on a 400 million dollar RELOCATION fee, and I think this would work.

This is leagues front office is so out of reality it's really a shame. Can't wait till the better owners are having enough and clean it out.

A hockey team in freaking Las Vegas while a proven market like Quebec City is ready for a team? It takes a special kind of bias and imcompetence to choose a gamblers heaven over a proven commodity.

This is moving awfully fast for something that wasn't even a possibility two weeks ago. It's almost as if they've been working on this for years and continually lying to the press and fans.

The NHL has settled on owners for the new franchise:

The National Hockey League appears to have come to a decision on an ownership group for a potential expansion team in Las Vegas.

The league has keyed in on a team of William Foley, a billionaire businessman, and the Maloof family, former owners of the NBA's Sacramento Kings, as the spearheads of the franchise, according to a report in The New York Post.

The franchise fee is expected to be upwards of $400 million, but, according to the report, the NHL is not expected to decide on expansion until it settles on a second city in order to balance out the number of teams in the Eastern and Western conferences.

Think they really haven't settled on a second city already?

They've settled on Seattle, but Seattle isn't cooperating at all...as far as we know. I heard Bob McKenzie talking about this the other day, and his sense is also that the league won't do a one-off expansion for just Vegas....there would have to be at least one other city at the same time.

The only city that fits the bill at this point is QC, but that ruins the "alignment", unless they get creative with conferences and divisions and whatnot.

Las Vegas will be a hugely successful franchise in the NHL. I think everyone on this letsgowings.com already wants to travel to Vegas to see the Wings play in 70 weather in mid-January. And, I think everyone on this letsgowings.com already bets on Red Wing games.

As someone who lives in the OTHER s***ty southwest hockey location, I can tell you with the utmost confidence that hockey in 70 degree weather is not only vastly overrated, it's an affront to whatever God oversees hockey operations.

And I really wish the NHL would stop shoving it down our throats. Fetch is never gonna happen.

That would make an interesting poll. You might want to start that topic.

The NHL will stop shoveling s*** down our throats when we stop eating it. But we're "The Greatest Fans" in the universe.

And "fetch" is totally going to happen. *****.

Yeah the NHL can take that BS and put it where the sun doesn't shine. I wish people would just stop going to games, subscribe to nhl services and stop buying from their online store. Hurt these money-chasing bastards where it really matters, maybe then future generations can have a better product..with a more traditional, integrity focus.

Personally I'd like to see less teams, a few relocations and an overall better product

Until next month when Bill Daly confirms that there have indeed been meetings with "insiders" *ba dum tsh* regarding the possibility of the NHL sucking my ass.

Although previously not discussed or even remotely considered 2 days ago, we have agreed on an ownership group for the sucking bos' ass, again we never even considered it, but have already decided on the ass sucking owners

The league needs a "conscious uncoupling" from uncle Gary.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the league needs someone who isn't the most hated man in hockey (by fans and players ! the so called "product"), someone who has actually played the game at some level and wants to protect the tradition and integrity of our great game. Companies are always looking for the most qualified people so why are NA sports so different when it comes down to hiring persons, that shouldn't even have a job in the sport to begin with ? NA sports would be much better without commissioners these guys are like suits in the gaming industry - despised by everybody but yet they are allowed to continue the destruction of the sport, gaming industry unbelievable.

When markets like Hamilton, Quebec, Seattle and maybe even Portland are waitin for a team Vegas should be the absolute last priority.

Here are my opinions on the matter. First, if this does happen, the team will be another Florida, Arizona or Atlanta. No one will care about them locally and the NHL will either relocate them or finance then (Arizona) to stay put. Las Vegas is THE worst location to put a team as there are so many other cities that are deserving. Kansas City, Seattle, Hamilton, Hartford, Quebec, all would have larger fan bases. Grand Rapids makes more sense than Vegas. Bettman needs to stop his idea that teams belong in cities where they really don't.

For whatever reason the NHL seems to think:

1. big city = massive potential for new fans

well of of course bigger cities have a higher population but the keyword here is potential ...most of them are either already NHL fans OR like Florida, Phoenix, Atlanta...there aren't enough fans overall (no matter how big the city is).

2. build it and they'll come

see 1. if there isn't enough interest/support for a team the league can build whatever they want and fans still won't show up.

If I were Mr. I I would be furious about that plan, why should I pay wingsrelated hard earned cash for another experiment that's for sure going to fail ? There are so many more deserving cities (both in Canada and the US), that this idea almost seems like a very very early april fools joke.
