Having a team in Vegas is great for those days when Bettman wants to get away from the wife. ;) "Honey I need to go check up on Vegas. What's that? Why am I packing so many thongs? Uh... Uh... Cab's here, gotta go"

Do not ever place in my head the image of Bettman in a thong again or I will force you into a Penguins jersey and leave you in Philly.

Ew. Ew ewewewewewewewew.

The Las Vegas Thong and Dance?

My sincerest apologies. Although as the saying goes "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" so you shouldn't worry about seeing skimpy pics of Bettman- unless his Icloud account gets hacked that is.

From tsn.ca:

AN NHL TEAM IN TORONTO COULD BE YOURS FOR - $1.2 BILLION?

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=461248

Hahahaha... This has gotten out of control. 1.2 billion?

I don't see anything higher than the 800 million figure quoted in the same article. And that's after opening bids at 500. Yes folks, if you've ever spent a good deal of time in Toronto, you know this is really possible.

So more than the whole mlse package unreal, Toronto is leafs land every other team that's there would be a second fiddle forever. I think this guy expects someone to go full Ballmer and pay a ridiculous amount of money for a project that won't see a profit in the early years.

And hockey fans complain about refs being crooked and on the take in certain instances now....

If Vegas gets a team, its almost a 100% guarantee that refs will be paid off and games fixed. That's the only reason Vegas even exists...betting.

Vegas makes a ton just based on the odds, there really is no reason for them to cheat. Cheating puts them in a position to lose their license, why would they do that? You almost have to try to fail when you have a casino or sports book in Vegas.

Really, you have to look at this like the midget….err Bettman. This isn't about how the fans perceive the game or what would be good for the game in general, this is about money. They will make a ton off of expansion fees to new franchises. That is all this is about. If the NHL wanted a good product, they would contract by 4 to 6 teams but that isn't going to happen.

i don't like it, but it will happen, and most likely sooner than we any of us want.

And please, just because a team is in Vegas doesn't mean they will allow cheating to make them successful. Bookies cover both sides of the bet, it is irrelevant who wins.

Remember when the league was denying they were interested in starting a franchise in Vegas?

yeah, about that...

Two weeks after the NHL denied reports that it was discussing the possibility of bringing a team to Las Vegas, it appears as though the league may be tipping its hand the other way.

In an interview with Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, deputy commissioner Bill Daly admitted to having met with a potential ownership group in Las Vegas. Russo writes:

NHL officials no longer are striking down the notion that expansion might be on the horizon. Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said Monday that, while in Las Vegas for other business this past weekend, he met again with a potential ownership group that has expressed an interest in owning a franchise.

Daly, in an interview in his Manhattan office, said he also got a chance to tour the site next to New York New York Hotel and Casino where a $350 million, 20,000-seat arena is being built by MGM Resorts. MGM also has had preliminary talks with the potential owners who want the arena to house their prospective NHL team. The arena is expected to be completed by 2016, and Daly looked at suite mock-ups: “It’s nice,” he said.

The league still has to determine that Las Vegas is a viable market for a professional sports franchise, and hasn't yet confirmed expansion.

At this point, however, it seems as though the wheels are in motion, and Las Vegas may slot into the NHL landscape at some point in the future.

Just for reference (and entertainment), here's the very same Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly's statement on Oct 24th about a potential franchise in Vegas.

“Completely untrue,” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly wrote. “Has never even been discussed internally, much less actually considered.”

Bill Daly....I think I hate that smug bastard more than Bettman. Amazing they just blatantly lie about s*** whenever they feel the need to. Probably has something to do with us being the best fans in the world.

What's funny is he still makes the claim that he was there on other business. It's like he can't help himself from lying.
