Las Vegas rumored to get an expansion team

To paraphrase the immortal Bob McCown, a former resident of Las Vegas: At any given time, approximately one-third of Las Vegas' population is sleeping and the other two-thirds are working.

Q: When was the last time the head and second-in-command of a major professional sport made an appearance for the kick-off of a season ticket drive?

A: Never.

Uncle Gary says: Must. not. fail.

Went there in March. The investment in infrastructure is staggering. Arenas popping up all over, many of which, I imagine, will be multi-purpose. If anything the city is a perfect revenue spinner for any team that heads there. Imagine if the Yotes could just have Celine Dion have a few shows in their barn and take a cut of it. Money.

Ive been against this idea from the beginning, and now it's one step closer I still find it totally abhorrent. There'll be no real fan base there, and there could be constant links to gambling. And what about the team that lives there? Can you imagine some of the more shadier characters in the league being able to stay out of trouble? It's another desperate attempt by Gary to try and force hockey onto markets it doesn't belong for the sake of expansion fees to fill the pockets of those paying his salary.

I'll add to that, 60 miles north of the city is legal prostitution. You can bet, their #1 customers will be NHL players.

I know players can get in trouble anywhere, but putting young rich professional athletes in Sin City is an insane idea!

Las Vegas getting a team has to be the pppdumbest idea since that damn into the desert and non hockey markets.

Gambling, prostitution and other stuff AWwill be on the daily schedule add to that the working hours of most potential customers and this screams stupid market that shouldn't have a team and will be another sub 7.000 attendance market but that *** league and the midget won't care because after all crap markets are the way to go, instead of relocating some franchises I.e typical NHL thinking

I'm Really curious as to how the whole thing will play out, I'm honestly a little bit concerned for the league as a whole if teams arent in control of the players when they are in vegas. All of the issues brought up before won't be a problem for everyone, but the young, the dumb, and the troubled ones might not be able to resist all the temptations that Vegas offers to wealthy young men. But at the same time, I don't see the attendance being a large issue. Worse case scenario casinos/hotels will prop up the team with promotional tickets and what not...

So I'm slightly concerned, but more so curious as to how this will all shake out. I have a feeling that players will go back to having to have roommates when they're in Vegas.

Yea, because no other city in America has hookers and bookies...

Not really disagreeing with your post, but I'm thinking there are certain reasons why the NFL/MLB/NBA aren't in Vegas.

Yeah, I'm really hoping this doesn't happen in Vegas.

I think Seattle out west would be a better option. Is expansion looking likely in Vegas at this point? I haven't been paying a ton of attention to the Vegas deal.

Its looking pretty damn likely.

They've moved onto the second phase of expansion with the investors in Las Vegas and Quebec.

Stoked for Quebec, disappointed for Vegas. Maybe within a few years they'll move the Vegas team to somewhere with a fanbase. I can't see them selling out 17,000 seats every night there.

I mean when people are thinking of LV the first thing that comes to mind is gambling, huge shows and a city that never sleeps.

Thinking about expansion instead of relocation and then into another non hockey market doesn't make any sense. No other mayor league is touching that market there must be a reason for that. I can already picture them being part of relocation talks after year one. How freaking stupid is it that we would have 2 teams in the dessert but only 1 in Toronto?

Also what about players with full NTC, NMC would they have to accept a trade to them? Everyone knows Quebec is going to work but Vegas is screaming Phoenix, Panthers maybe even worse if that's possible

Weak Canadian dollar may play into this but same time economy and stability in Vegas, what a joke

It's just a regression phase every currency goes through it at some point.

I'm sure there are 1.000 other activities legally and illegally one can do in Vegas but hockey? Lol

I've said before and ill say it again the NHL needs less not more teams. Why not wait till Seattle, Portland, Toronto 2 are ready and use a much more realistic price tag...half a billion for a team might even be more than the mlb is charging..

Totally agree it is regression phase, all economies have been up and down.... I don't understand how the Yotes are still open for business.... Conferences are not even balanced out

I really do hate water downed skill set, hockey, and this type of broken foundation hype

I know there's gambling in Detroit...pretty sure there might be prostitution as well...do we have to turn in our franchise?

I would call the team the Las Vegas PawnStars and have Chumlee do something.... somehow...for the franchise.

The other problem is, people complain about a lack of entertainment in hockey but really, how is EXPANDING actually going to help with this in making the league more main stream? If anything, it'll dilute the talent base, making the expansion teams and lower level teams having to adopt a New Jersey strategy of trap trap trap and more trap. Scoring will go down, which is what all the media seems to care about, and neither of these teams will end up being that successful.

While the other owners will love it, are every GM in the league going to be happy about 2 new teams having the pick of some of there lower end,/potentially useful players/prospects?
