I would sure as hell leave Franzen and Q unprotected of our current guys.

Is there a kickstarter campaign for Jakub Kindl to never play another NHL game?

Protect Mrazek over Howard all day...

I believe that a team can only lose ONE player, so if someone picked up Franzen, then no one else can be picked (of those left unprotected.)

How would that be possible, especially with 4 teams drafting? There would have to be more than one player selected from a team. In the 2000 expansion draft with Columbus and Minny, Detroit lost Stacy Roest and Darryl Laplante.

Wow, what huge losses.

I'm hoping that it wouldn't be 4 teams at once. That would be insanity. 2 seems realistic.

The scary thing for me is... we have a lot of new young talent, Zberg and dats careers begin seriously waning, expansion begins, do we leave Z an D unprotected in say their last years?
The business man in me says yes. The red wing says EAT s*** DIE for even thinking that mother f*****

It all depends on when the league would expand, how many players each team would lose and how many each could protect, and how those guys are playing at the time of expansion.  But as long as Ilitch and Holland are in charge, it would never happen.

Agreed.  34 teams just doesn't work.

Na no way man if push comes to shove we protect 7 other kids up front and let weiss Franzen abdelkader glendening and even helm(as much as that one will suck)

3rd-4th line guys will be a lot easier to replace and if were of man lose a guy or 2 I'd like to think if push comes to shove Kenny would be smart enough to say trade a Tatar and someone else for an elite defensemen

Other wise mantha jurco Tatar nyquist sheahan along with pavel and hank are untouchable along with bertuzzi or whoever else would be up here

That being said as much as the nhl wants there's no way in hell we can have 34 teams , 120+ players with new teams would mean a lot more guys in the league that shouldn't be there , at the most I see 2 new teams and possible relocations

Agree that four more teams would be too much, but I've read Las Vegas, Seattle, Quebec City and Toronto over and over. Adding two Western teams would even up the conferences and make the most sense. Regardless, teams can still lose more than one player in that scenario, as well.

There may be 4 new teams, but I believe that two of them will be relocated.
