So Jensen's been playing at a high level, the other night he had 20+minute toi,

And he survived the first round of roster cuts.

Anyone have any inside info or opinions on whether or not they're thinking about keeping him up?

I mean, a right handed shot completely changes the dynamic on our blue line.

Theres been trade speculation and all that, what's everyone thinking?

I known hell most likely be sent down soon after the preseason, but, I was thinking they might be trying to show him off to use as trade bait.

They already sent down Sproul, so unless they plan to keep him upas the number 7 I'm thinking they're choosing Sproul over him for long term plans.

I could just be reading too much into it, and they're keeping him here to fill out the roster for the remainder of preseason, ive just loved his play so far, he's silky, and hasn't made any huge mistakes that I've seen.

I think you're definitely reading too much into it... They just want to see more of him, That's it and that's all.

There's no way they're showcasing him for a trade. He has been our best defenseman through training camp and preseason, and that includes Ouellet in my opinion. Plus like you said, he is a right handed shot, which is huge for anyone trying to make a team full of lefties. Our current seven defensemen are all lefties and the only righties we have up front right now are borderline bottom six guys (Glendening, Callahan and Ferraro) and Alfredsson if he ever gets healthy enough to play.

What would make you think that Sproul is ahead of him? Sproul absolutely does have the higher ceiling and he will be the better player in the future but I would think that Jensen is definitely ahead of him in the pecking order as of right now. I think all 5 (Ouellet, Jensen, Sproul, Marchenko and Backman) will start the season down in Grand Rapids and one of Ouellet or Jensen (depending on who is playing better at the time) will get the call by November/December at the latest.

Also, there's no way they keep any of the 5 as our number 7, it just wouldn't make sense. They want all of them getting huge minutes whether it's in Detroit or Grand Rapids, not sitting and watching...

Aside from the prospect rankings what makes me think Sprouls ahead of him is that he's still om the roster, and Sprouls been sent down.

That seems counter intuitive but the way I'm thinking is they want sproul healthy for the ahl season, and want him playing as many minutes down there to groom him for a larger role. I'm thinking they're showcasing Jensen for a trade because what would be the reasoning behind keeping him here and not Sproul, unless Jensen's moved passed him.

Which seems unlikely.

And maybe they don't plan on keeping him as the number seven, I know they've said lash and kindl aren't fighting for jobs but maybe theyve played their way out of security.

or maybe they don't think he's going to turn into anything more than a bottom pairing d man, he is our 14th rated prospect ( how much of that was affected by his injury well never know)

so theyre keeping him up planning on bringing him in the way lashoff was, just a right handed option instead of him or kindl and if he surprises and develops into more then awesome.

And there's talk of trades from kh and I know he says something similar every year, but they've gotta get something done if they plan on bringing these guys in to see what they've got.

I think last year shocked them when they realized what they had in sheahan, and less shocked but still surprised with Nyquist.

These guys were getting called up and filling in beautifully, they're ready made for the big club, they come in knowing the system better than they expect (blashill could just be that damn good at preparing them)

Id like to think they learned the lesson that they need to see what these guys can do in the big club before losing them for nothing. (Ala Adam almquist)

Like I said before, Sproul is ranked higher because he has a much higher ceiling, but there is no question that he still needs a lot of more work (mainly on his defensive game) down in Grand Rapids. You're definitely reading in to these roster moves way too much. Jensen will be sent down to the minors before the Tuesday deadline. He is not being showcased for a trade, they just simply wanted to see him in another game (or two). Maybe a lot of that has to do with them not seeing much of him last year due to the injury but I think it's mostly because he has been a huge surprise the past couple weeks. Now they're trying to gauge who will be the first recall, which is the reason they kept all three (Ouellet, Jensen and Marchenko) of the most NHL ready defensemen. Why would you assume that they're showcasing Jensen and not one of the other two promising prospects? I don't see any of these guys getting traded until they see what they're going to get from each of them. In saying that, I wouldn't be surprised if one of them is traded by the deadline.

Also, we didn't lose Almquist for nothing. He is still a part of the organization, but for him it was always a big uphill battle to make this team. My bet is that he either stays over in the KHL or moves over to the SHL. He won't make the Red Wings team and won't be offered another contract, and for good reason.

I can usually pick out your sarcasm, and I know you're a sarcastic bastard 95% of the time , so I can only assume (hope) that was yet another sarcastic comment lol...

No really. Think about it. Callahan? Callashan? Shallashan? Shanahan.

I rest my case.

Jensen should most definitely make the opening roster over kindl. If "tie goes to the best player" that should be a no brainer. Kindl just gets worse and worse and Jensen has been one of our best dmen thus far. He has the puck moving ability, sound defense, and RH point shot we need so desperately. I see Callahan's sandpaper replacing Andersson and Jensen replacing Kindl. Atleast i hope so...

Wait, have I been missing something for the last 15 years?

It's an oft repeated rumor that Shanahan had an affair with Craig Janney's wife while they were still married. Shanahan did end up marrying Janney's ex-wife, but I never hear anything other than innuendo as to exactly what went down.

The story goes that's why Shanny was traded from St. Louis. As far as I know they are still married and had three kids together. So it's wasn't exactly a fling.

Ok gotcha. For some reason I interpreted Dickie's post as implying that Shanny had hooked up with one of his Red Wing teammates' wives. I couldn't care less about Craig Janney's wife, but I'd be furious if he did it to Igor Larionov lol.

The way I see it, something's gotta give pretty soon with the back end. Babs has even come out this week and stated that he needs to sort out the D, and from what I've read, both Kindl and Lashoff have been awful preseason.

Whether it'll mean they try and trade Kindl again, and just have Ouellet start the year, who knows. It sounds like Babs and the Wings are frustrated with Kindl and his regression, and I think if they can cut the cord they most certainly will.
