Who should get cut/traded by game 1 of the season?

I want to see the sedins playing for different teams at some point.

And I think andersson should be traded, there's enough teams out there who could use a guy like him for the fourth line and penalty kill, and he deserves a chance to be in the lineup every night but we have too many kids that are better than him...

It also goes without saying I think cleary needs to go, but he could end up recapturing some of the success he's had in the past, crazier things have happened.

There's a lot of potential players who could/should be moved if they don't make the roster, but there's so many variables that factor into who will be expendable and trade-able that its any ones guess as of now.

If they actually get away from the whole "ties go to vets" situation, there's plenty of people we can package up and try for a marginal roster upgrade or some decent picks.

We have so many kids who should be getting a shot, enough vets who we could move on from, and enough middle tier players who could use a change of scenery or just aren't worth keeping the kids down for that you would think some moves would go down, but who knows..

Realistically, I'd like to see
Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Helm

Franzen, Weiss, Nyqvist

Tatar, Sheahan, Jurco

Miller, Glendening, Abdelkader

Which leaves Cleary, Andersson, Callahan, Ferraro battling for that 13th forward spot. I would love to see Callahan bust into the top 12 just because he seems like he could turn into a well-rounded player who can contribute at all areas of the game in a bottom six role, but its a long-shot for him and especially Ferraro at this point.

Defense I'm more up in the air about. Ideally Sproul can win a top six spot from Kindl and Lashoff because the Wings desperately need a right-handed bomb from the point, but with Babcock's history of preferring experience to untested youth, I don't know if Kindl or Lashoff will lose their spots to Sproul, Oulette, or Marchenko. At least not by game 1.

I definitely see Callahans chances as being greater than Ferraros, who just seems to be flat out bust.

But you gotta think Pulks would make the team over either of those two (despite his waiver eligibility) because of his shot and he showed some decent grit in his stint with the big club but hed probably have to take a spot on a scoring line though, he didn't seem to have the best set of wheels. And I'd love to see a 4th line of miller Glendenning and abby.

And as much as I'd love to see Jurco playing alongside pav, i hope to hell weiss can thrive with nyquist and franzen because having the kids as the third line was almost unfair last season.

Pass that crack pipe....you'll need to throw in that new stadium of ours to make that deal work.

Hfboards has a thread on the value of the Sedin's, most had em pegged pretty low. My proposal was in line with most, so I couldn't resist.

I think to start the season we get the most bang for our buck by splitting Z and Dats up considering we have lots of depth at wing already and Weiss won't likely have enough chemistry to be a 2C yet.

Weiss - Datsyuk - Helm

Franzen - Zetterberg - Nyquist

Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco

Miller - Glendening - Abdelkader

I think this is decent to start the season but I would like to see this by the end of the season:

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Mantha

Franzen - Weiss - Nyquist

Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco

Abby - Helm - Glendening (Shutdown line for playoffs)

Weiss won't get chemistry with anyone else by playing wing either. Also I'm not sure he's ever played there. I think that they're better served with him at center as long as he's healthy. Also, you know Cleary will be on the lineup a lot early on so he can get his bonus. I just hope he starts on the 4th line.

Can we please just stop trying to make playmakers into scoring wingers? For every one success, there are about a million failures. If we've got so many centers, and not enough wingers, that we need to use them interchangeably then why don't we trade some of them? Heaven forbid we actually slot guys based on a skill set they currently have, rather than one we'd like them to develop after 5-10 years in the league.

This question boils down to who can and will clear waivers... [Don't forget it works both ways and they need to be able to clear re-entry waivers as well]

22 of the 23-man roster listed by capgeek have to clear waivers to get assigned to GR. Callahan, Nestrasil, and Ferraro all also have to clear waivers to get sent down this year (I'm not sure if they would be subject to re-entry waivers if they get brought up this year). Jurco is the only 'regular' from last season who can get sent down without first clearing waivers.

I think taking that into consideration, the Wings are going to face some difficult decisions this season without making some trades or accepting some 'losses' to the waiver wire.

I had orginally been hopeful that Mantha would stick out of camp, but with the injury and the roster the way it is, I don't think there are going to be any 'surprises'.

I'm pretty sure there's no more 're entry waivers per the new cba
