Datsyuk 2nd degree separated shoulder injury - out approx 4 weeks

This is why no one wants to come here.

Wings=injuries.

It's like the winged wheel is as cursed as the city and the industry the logo represents

People don't want to come here because the team is aging and not seen as a true cup contender in the eyes of some top players. This is the point where every team has to overpay to get the top players to sign simple as that.

Calm down everyone. It's a mild shoulder strain, 2-4 weeks is nothing. Now is the best time for Pavel to rest, and it gives him a chance to get it healed fully with the prospect of missing maybe a week's worth of the regular season.

Injuries happen. it's a contact sport. Datsyuk's injury was a freak, he was just hit hard along the boards. No one is ever going to say you're not allowed to hit someone while they're coming down the wall like that, like Pavel was. Hitting the corner like that is a freak. It happens. He'll be fine, and missing a week now is better than missing a week down the stretch. No amount of conditioning could prepare even the fittest athlete in the world for a collision like that.

Yes it sucks that Pavel won't be in the lineup on opening night, but I don't see why everyone is just absolutely clamouring with depression at the fact that 3 guys are hurt already. All 3 injuries were freaks. Helm can still play, just slap on a cage and as long as he can breathe it's all good. And we're not the only team with injuries this early. Look around the league. Malkin and Crosby aren't practicing, Drouin broke his hand, Jordan Staal fractured his leg, Stepan also fractured his leg. So were aren't alone. it happens. Just be thankful that Pavel isn't out for that long and that during that time he can still keep his legs fresh

Flames have half a dozen guys for that stuff.

Yeah, if we could only be the flames with their 4th from last place finish in the standings last year.

Well that's not being fair you mentioned Vancouver too, they did a lot better than the Flames: tied for 5th worst record.

You're right frankgrimes. we should model ourselves after those teams.

Some people don't get it and will never get it. Maybe once Pasha, Z and Danny are out for a longer period of time, some wwill finally understand easy point but I doubt it so whatever.

Maybe somebody should make Scuderi pay for the hit. He knew damn well where the glass was.

Like I've said do that against Kessel and the story ends with Scuderi leaving the ice very soon... but now Pasha - our best player by far - is out for at least a month and Scuderi is still fine.

One of my biggest problem with the game today is all the bs "revenge" for clean hits. He got him in a bad spot and hit him hard, but it was clean. Sometimes you get hit, sometimes you get hurt. There was 0 on the play to take issue with. If you really think we should have enforcers to stop the other team from hitting us you need a reality check. You want no hits and fights? Go watch soccer and then boxing. Pretend it's one sport.

I want hits, fighting just good oldschool hockey but I also want a team that sticks up for each other and some on ice police. Last season Pasha has been out with a concussion, this (early) pre-season with a seperated shoulder. Is it really that hard to understand that I want someone to keep the other team honest ?

Heck it doesn't even need to be a fight you check our star/young/small players hard we are going to do the same to you and here comes the problem...after Kronwall deleted Kronwalled from his dictionary the Wings aren't even doing that and it pisses me off. Scuderi is a big kid he can take a hard hit I admit he is very good at hitting hard and clean but that shouldn't exclude him from getting hit in the same manner too.

To an extent I agree with you here Frank. I love the physical aspect of Hockey and wish the wings were more physical like they were back in the late 90's. But I agree with nawein. Nothing p****** me off more than seeing a guy get pounded for a clean hit, even more so when they guy who got smoked had his head down. How many Kronwall hits last year that were clean did we see where another player on the other team tried to take retribution. To what purpose does that actually serve? It's not stopping Kronwall from laying people out. He's one of the most feared open ice hitters in the game today. And he's not going to fight anyone, as evidenced when Kesler tried to get a piece of him. So why go after the guy? Intimidation? It just simply doesn't work and only serves to slow the game down.

What I would like to see, which I'm sure you'll agree with, is someone sticking up for your team mate when he gets smoked on an ILLEGAL check. Like the elbow Datsyuk took last year from Cowan. Cowan should have got smoked, or at least challenged to a fight for that. And that's one of the things I miss about this Wings team.

Fully agreed with almost everything. Like I said players don't need to fight Scuderi just have someone who will and can hit him - or Crosby, Malkin - equally as hard (but clean) should there be a fight after that ? No, absolutely not if it was a clean hit but keep in mind there is also a fine line.

I fully agree with your statement about someone getting Cowened he should have gotten absolutely smoked or challenged to fight after that and that's exactly my point the Wings need to be a tougher team to play against. One where others know what goes around comes around.

So you've gone from we need someone to stand up for our stars, to we need someone who can hit?

We out hit Chicago and Minnesota, two very good teams, just last season.

When it comes to "hitting-hard" I don't know how you draw the line. But Scuderi's hit wasn't really that huge, he more or less caught Datsyuk in a weird place in a weird position.

In that case I misunderstood what you meant. I'm all for hard hitting hockey. I love it. I live for it. I just hate the stupid revenge fights on clean plays.

I don't know why everyone is up in arms....we ALL knew this was going to happen to the same players this year and the years that follow. Ken Holland hedged his lack of pursuing players or as we all know it as "low-balling" them on the hope that no way the injuries will happen again....well guys, well Kenny, now what? Datsyuk...OUT....Barbie Doll....OUT....our prized rookie...OUT....Alfie.....OUT....Ericsson...OUT!

Wings4TheCup - Mild Shoulder strain? A 2nd degree separation is not a mild shoulder strain...stop being in denial... Datsyuk is fragile, our whole "core" is fragile and it will get worse. Can't wait for Danny flippin Cleary to be on the 1st line come opening night...that is before his knees explode.

Ken Holland hoped that his team would be healthy and he would look like a genius, but he is just looking like hunk of crap GM who has, by low-balling players, ruined Detroit as a favorite destination for players to come...Hey Kenny, Pav and Z and Kronwall and Howard are nowhere near Yzerman, Fedorov, Lidstrom or Hasek, so that is why nobody "takes less" to be in Detroit anymore...you screwed us as fans and you totally tarnished the image of Hockeytown.

Get well soon Pav...take your money to the bank, but don't bank on Holland trying to make this team better for you to win again in the next three years....what's next, trade Mantha for a 4th line center because ours are all hurt (will be) ?

Welcome to the "new" NHL. Thanks Bettman. Please get rid of the instigator rule. It won't solve much. But it will help more than you might think.

Absolutely sucks, maybe just maybe Holland finally signs someone who won't stand for that crap insatead of icing a declining pussysoft team every year ? Thought the FO would have learned from the Cowen story of last year, sadly not. If you hit Kessel like that you reply to McLaren and Colton Orr, Flames have half a dozen guys for that stuff. Helm, Pasha and Mantha already out that's disgusting. Get well soon Pasha
And the stars on those teams still get run.

The last player poll I saw was over whelming in favor of keeping it.

Every team is dealing with injuries on their rosters right now.

http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/injuries

I know everyone here is concerned or upset about the hit, but I look at teams like Carolina that lost Staal for a much longer period and acknowledge that injuries are part of the game. The hit was clean, and there should be no suspension or fine. Every team is going to deal with injuries, and the Wings are going to be no different.

Dats could be back in as early as 2 weeks which would make him a go for the start of the season.

We have 4 players over 31 (Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Cleary, Franzen)
