TSN Luke Schenn could be available

http://www.nicholsonhockey.com/worthreading/2014/10/2/insider-trading looks like he could be had for a B level prospect. If I'm Holland I'd be all over this guy hits like a truck, brings size and will stick up for his teammates and the best thing Schenn will only get better.

Would love him in a Winged Jersey

Stupid auto correct could a mod please change the title?

Which Schenn did Paul Holmgren trade James Van Riemsdyk for? (It's so hard for me to say that with a straight face)

It was Luke. I used to watch him on the Leafs all the time, he was their 6th D-man in his last year and used to play 6min a game. He has been regressing like crazy over the past few years.

This would be a horrible trade, he comes with a 3.6 million cap hit for the next 2 years.

Maybe he needs a better defensive partner or some sort of mentor? I've seen a few games of him too, he was really good in his first year. I'm also sure Brayden wouldn't be too happy seeing his brother traded.

I feel like wed Waste assets getting him here and he'd end up being our seventh.

Or he comes over and gets beat out by a kid with higher potential.

Then only thing he brings that we don't have is the physicality, which is something we need, but I don't see us using it very well.

Ala too too.

I get he's on the back end, but he's not a top four guy offensively or defensively.

He's shown flashes but nothing to merit giving up something that'll be better for.

He could just need a change of scenery, sure, but i don't think he fills any holes we can't fill from within.

He is a good hitter.

Could it be the case, that The Chief Berube just doesn't like him ? I mean this is a kid, Burke refused to trade in order to get the Isles number 1 pick (John Tavares) at that time so either I haven't watched him enough lately or he has really fallen of the cliff ?

Like I said maybe if the Flyers trade him his brother gets pissed off and wants out too ? If both Schenn's can be had for "cheap" I wouldn't be against it. My personal believe is, he just needs a good mentor (we have that with Kronwall and Ericsson).

He has been regressing.

If he was showing signs of improvement you'd think he'd be more than a 6th guy, no matter what quarrels he had with his coach.

And burke isnt exactly known for making smart choices.

I havent watched enough of him to say he's beyond fixing, but he's a 3rd pairing d man with a 3.6m dollar cap hit. He's still young enough to think the change of scenery would help, along with better coaching/some mentoring but that's alottttt of money to spend on another project.

He is a right handed shot but we've got a few of those that look readyto make the jump and will be cheap.

If we could get Luke and brayden out of it im sure thered be someway to work it out, kind/lash/q would have to go the other way to make take up the space in case he does flame out and they're not exactly in the best cap position so as not an option, and braydens playing on their top line, so who knows what wed have to give up for the combo.

I think we do need to trade away some of our mid level guys for a higher tier guy, but getting Luke wouldn't help us there right now, at least not anymore than marchenko sproul or possibly even Jensen now since he's still up.

Some things gotta happen.

And idk if he's disliked or what.

He had even +/-last season, and he seems to putup decent enough numbers, but he kinda seems like another square peg when were trying to fill a round hole.

honestly.

I could be wrong.

I haven't studied the guy or nothing, you've probably seen as much as me of him, but if were going to bring on another project, I just feel like we need to be doing it from grand rapids considering the logjam were about to have on d.

I don't know that I agree he's regressed, he just hasn't been given the right role. Philly is a terrible place to judge a defenseman, too. Berube didn't trust Schenn enough to use him as a shut-down guy and that's what he's best suited for at this point. His 260 hits last year was 6th in the league and he only played 16:32 a night. In Toronto, the Leafs desperately wanted him to be an offensive defenseman (I think they think all defensemen should be offensive-defensemen, though), which he just isn't...

I certainly wouldn't be opposed to him coming to Detroit, if they are going to use him as a shut-down guy (physical presence) and penalty killer. If the expectation is that he's 'fix' the defense or develop into a 'different' player, I hope we don't waste time with it.

But he's big. I mean, look at the size of him. Who cares if he's any good or not? He's big. That's all that matters. We could pair him up with Mike Mckee and teams would be scared to death. Because NHL coaches, the league over, are bewildered by club footed meatheads. You know, cuz they're big.

Jip that would be my thinking too. If you use him as a shutdown force the guy is good in his role, I mean 6th in hits with hardly over 16 minutes of ice time is impressive. Pair him with an offensive defenseman and results should come. He was a force on the Leafs but for whatever reason, they wanted to use him as an offensive weapon after Carlyle came on board.

Luke Schenn sooooo biggggg. Red Wings soooo small. Schenn, huge gargantuan scary player. Wings, tiny microscopic players.

Hitting doesn't mean you can play D. He got little ice time bc he couldn't play D, not cause he couldn't play O. He's been a shutdown D his entire career... One who didn't pan out.

He was good his first year, I don't know what happened to him. If he was a UFA, I would be completely okay signing him to a 1 year deal with a small cap hit. But, I wouldn't trade for him unless it was for Quincey.

And Canadian. And Don Cherry likes guys like this. And he was a good coach that time in 1976. I say we trade our best Euro for this kid.

Hopefully this doesn't derail the thread too much, but you hit on something that I've thought about for years. Why does anybody care about Don Cherry's thoughts on hockey. He wasn't a successful player, and he wasn't a successful coach. He's not Scotty Bowman or Pat Quinn; he's John Tortorella without the accomplishments. Why would anybody listen to this blowhard clown and think, "now here's a subject matter expert"?

Ugh, I frickin' hate Don Cherry.
