rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted October 5, 2014 The draft picks are always a toss up...Who's to say those 3 picks will ever play in the NHL? Then again guys like Lucic - Marchand - Subban were all 2nd rounders. Exactly. If 2nd rounders are risky picks, then it makes sense to improve your odds. That’s why 2nd rounders are so valuable. Over the years, a good team will eventually grab a guy like Duncan Keith or David Backes or, in the Red Wings case, Jurco, Tatar, Ouelett, and Sproul. Keep those 2nd rounders if you can. frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted October 5, 2014 What’s the old saying? Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Eventually even an idiot like Snow is going to make a deal. To be honest though, two second rounders and a third is a lot to give up. The draft picks are always a toss up...Who's to say those 3 picks will ever play in the NHL? Then again guys like Lucic - Marchand - Subban were all 2nd rounders. The Bruins are in a win now window, if things go south they might have to overpay for a top 4 pairing guy come trade deadline. Picks aren't helping them right now, lots of teams called for Boychuk, so the return should have been something like Grabner , 2nd plus a serviceable defender at the least. Before the trade I was sure the Isles would be bad again, now they are in the mix for the last playoff spot alongside Wings, Toronto and Philadelphia. God knows their fans deserve this after all the suffering.

They got 2 second round picks and a maybe a third (I think if they resign him). I'm guessing a player couldn't go back the other way due to cap reasons. I'm guessing a player couldn't go back the other way due to cap reasons. Chia and Snow could have played it smart and send two (non waiver eligible guys) to the AHL to create cap space till the season starts, then send Savard to LTR and go on with the trade. Heck I would have rather traded McQuaid (I'm a fan of the guy) and Bartkowski before Boychuck Chia basically ruined their chance of competing for the cup this year. number9 3,297 Report post Posted October 6, 2014 Nick Leddy and Johnny Boychuck got traded not to us???? NOOOOO. Holland that POS. NYI sure is over the top now.
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted October 7, 2014 I always thought Leddy was a player that's ready to bloom, though I'd like to see him here, I wish him luck with the Isles. Good move for him, he didn't have room to grow in Chicago.
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted October 7, 2014 I don't think Leddy is that good, he has played behind an awesome first pairing in Chicago let#s not forget that. Boychuk on the other side becomes instantly their best defenseman I think the Isles will be in the race for one of the two wildcard spots - which isn't good news for the Wings but their fans deserve this. Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted October 13, 2014 So far Boychuk is looking great, 5 points 1g and 4 ass) in 2 games. He's playing top def minutes and he's producing pretty well.
Richdg 267 Report post Posted October 13, 2014 These were good moves by the Isles. Could be bad news for us. We are barely a PO team last year and now 2 teams that finished behind us are clearly improved: Isles and Caps. Puts more pressure on us.

DatsyukianDekes 2,428 Report post Posted October 13, 2014 I actually would have loved to get boychuk Me too, I love the guy and think he's fantastic. However, with Boston being in our division I highly doubt they wanted him anywhere near them especially on the Wings.

So I think they fully expect it to happen.
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted October 13, 2014 (edited) The good thing is, the Isles have a very cheap owner so if the Wings are serious about getting a top defender Boychuk would be a nice nice addition. Throw 7 x 6 at him and I highly doubt Wang matches it's time for this team to flex their financial muscle again. I doubt we have the cap room for a 7 mill defender with Nyquist, Jurco and Smith being RFAs next year. Anyway, Drew Doughty's worthy 7 - Boychuck ain't. He'll make somewhere around Niskanen's 5.75 1 krsmith17 reacted to this

Throw 7 x 6 at him and I highly doubt Wang matches it's time for this team to flex their financial muscle again. Reminder -- while Wang is still the primary shareholder, the Isles have been sold to new owners. It's a three year transition, but you've got to imagine that they're headed in a new direction... and Snow is going to want to keep his job. So, the acquisition of Boychuk and Leddy is good for the present and the future of the Isles. Even if they only keep one, it certainly helps the blueline after the loss of A. MacDonald, and in the year prior, Mark Streit.
Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted October 13, 2014 Boychuk will slow down. He scored 23 pts last year as Charas partner. Chances that he will slow down (and not keep 2.5 pts per game) are high.... But last year Chara was playing with Seidenberg and Hamilton. Julien is mixing his lines a lot. He will have his chance now to play top minutes.

kipwinger 8,440 Report post Posted October 13, 2014 Boychuk is a good defenseman, don't get me wrong, but he's a lot like Brent Seabrook. He's good defensively, good enough offensively, and worked well within the system he was playing in. That said, he's not a superstar and shouldn't get paid like one. This Since Q is getting paid $4.25m I guess that for Boychuk $5m/$5,5m should be enough. 1 e_prime reacted to this
