Datsyuk back to gray Jersey per Khan

Lines this morning

Franzen-Zetterberg-Abdelkader

Tatar-Sheahan-Jurco

Nestrasil-Helm-Nyquist

Miller-Glendening-Andersson

Kronwall-Ericsson

DeKeyser-Smith

Quincey-Ouellet

Lashoff-Kindl

Looks like this Ouellett think is for real.

Also, that's an interesting 3rd line.

Also, still no Weiss.

Lines at practice today:

Franzen-Zetterberg-Abdelkader

Tatar-Sheahan-Jurco

Nestrasil-Helm-Nyquist

Andersson-Glendening-Miller

Grey Jerseys

Cleary-Datsyuk-Weiss

Defense Pairings:

Kronwall-Ericsson

DeKeyser-Smith

Quincey-Ouellet

I really hope they stick with those pairings to start the season and trade Kindl for a pick or something...

Interesting

Nestrasil on the second PP unit at practice. Ouellet on PK with Quincey.

Ouellet working the PK with Quincey. Nestrasil working on power play. Kindl and Lashoff join possible scratches Cleary, Weiss as PK fill-ins

True. But this means they're definitely going to have to trade someone or put someone on IR in the next 5 hours if they want Ouellet to stay.

So its either, trade Kindl or Lashoff

Or, put one of the guys in grey (minus Datsyuk, who's already going to be on short term IR) - which means either Cleary or Weiss.

Something definitely has to give here. Big time.

In a stunning development lol... Monster looks to be hurt

Mrazek has a net to himself as Gustavsson looks on. Gustavsson apparently tweaked his knee on Friday and might not be ready for opener.

well maybe not.... KHAAAN ha

Now Gustavsson back in net as Mrazek stands on the side.

What the hell kind of power play units are those? Helm? Nestrasil? Jesus. I hope they see something I don't.

Well, they have the right guys up front. Other than Smith or maybe Ouellett, they don't have many options on the back end.

My guess is that Helm is on there to use his speed as another option for zone entry (rather than dump-chase or pass) and Nestrasil might be a good net-front guy. He had a nice PP deflection against Boston.

I hope so. I guess I have to give them the benefit of the doubt for now. I just can't help but think they're grasping at straws. Like when they put Hudler on the PP point. Or Eaves. Or Alfie. Or Sammy.

Weiss will be playing this week and as long as he is put with a couple decent linemates he will produce. He will be fine.

I don't think Datsyuk will be playing the first few games, but once he gets back he will be back to his same old magic.

Side note: Am I the only one who tries to picture what some people look and act like outside of this site? I have a lot of people pegged, whether I'm right or not, I'll probably never know... Either way, it entertains me to see some people act so childish on here, I can only assume that some of them are still children, but you never know...

This is what I imagine most of you look like...

Hell, I'm just happy that Cleary,Bert, and Samuelsson are nowhere to be found on either of these units. Unlike game 1 last year. For now, you won't hear me complain - not a peep.

Actually that's an interesting thought. Helm might be able to back the defenders off the blue line a bit.

In theory. But if Helm were any good at that then his offensive production would be significantly higher than it is. The fact is, so far, Helm's speed has not translated into much offensive productivity. I'm not really sure why he seems to be the guy Babs is counting on to fill holes in the offense.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I just see Abby all over again. "Well, put him alongside Datsyuk and he'll score just fine...". *facepalm*

And this one just confused me....

The Wheel Deal @Bill_Roose

#RedWings Gustavsson is now getting reps at far end of rink, usually signifying No. 1 goalie status. Howard is the 2 hole as Mrazek watches.

I really do not like dekeyser on the power play not a strength of his at all

That's the beauty of it. The Detroit Red Wings don't worry about playing to people's strengths. As a matter of fact, in our system, players don't have strengths. Anybody is just as good as anybody else, at any position. Don't t you get it? It's impossible to key on any one player when you use all the players on your team in the exact same way. Brilliant.

I like the d-pairings all things considered, and I'm willing to hold my breath on the PP units for a little while.

I just wish they'd switch Nyquist and Abby in those forward lines. I know its all the rage for our brass to vilify players who didn't put up big numbers in the pre-season... but why is Nyquist relegated to the third line with non-offensive linemates?

Can't wait for Datsyuk to be back.

I think that mostly has to do with his stone hands in front of the net

Well I'd like to think that with XO paired with Quincey in practice today, they're gonna move Lashoff or Kindl. One can only hope right?

Sounds like Nestrasil has made the team according to this:

http://kuklaskorner.com/tmr/comments/red-wings-mid-day-practice-news-injuries-afoot-krupa-reports-nestrasils-mad

Nestrasil avoids another round of cuts as Wings don't place anyone on waivers. Looks like he's made team for now.
