Datsyuk to play Thursday? Weiss to be a healthy scratch?

Well, the Blues haven't done anything in the playoffs so far, despite all their potential.

Lombardi has done a great job buidling the Kings, but he's also had the luxury of 2nd overall Drew Doughty, 11th overall Anze Kopitar, 13th overall Dustin Brown, and 5th overall Brayden Schenn who begat Mike Richards. All higher picks than we've had than forever.

You are completely right. People love to praise the Kings, and I will be the first to admit they have done one hell of a job with that franchise. But, what people forget is that to get there and get those picks you listed, they didn't make the playoffs from 2002-2010. If I told you the Wings would be elite, but to do so we would be out of the playoff picture until 2022, I think most people would pass.

Yet, on hfb the Kings fans are already complaining about lack of prospects...

I suspect when Pav comes back the lines will be:

Hank- Datsyuk- Franzen (Franzen has been playing really well with Hank so no need to change that, but they still aren't scoring.)

Jurco- Sheahan- Tatar

Nestral- Helm- Nyquist

Miller- Glendening- Abby

But I think the best would be:

Hank- Pav- Franzen

Jurco- Sheahan- Tatar

Nestral- Weiss- Nyquist (Helm to me doesn't cut it for scoring goals. I really want to give Weiss a chance to skate with Nyquist, and Nestral has looked far too good to toss aside. This could turn out to be a great line)

Glendening- Helm- Abby/ Miller (Solid grinding line)

I would do this with Dats back then transition back to Z and Dats together once Weiss gets settled.

Franzen - Z - Nyquist

Helm - Datsyuk - Weiss

Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco

Miller - Glendening - Nestrasil

Either you a) forgot Abdlekader or b) seriously underestimate his value to this team. Edited by rick zombo

Kings fans are the worst, do they not realize that with that core they probably won't need a huge impact prospect for another 5-6 years... Plus they have Toffoli Pearson Muzzin McNabb Jones that are prospects or borderline prospects, Doughty and Voynov who are only 24, Kopitar's only 27...

They're getting real spoiled (reminds me of some other fan base haha)

Hahah forgot him. He'd be on the 4th instead of Nesty

I generally agree with a lot of your posts, but I hate your lines up there. You've got one of the best playmaking centers and passers in the league (some say in the history of the league) and you're giving him two former centers who have never played significantly on the wing. You're completely negating the advantage you have by lining up Datsyuk at center. This is one thing that the Red Wings, and a lot of our fans do too much of in my opinion. Ideally, you don't want Datsyuk scoring too many goals himself. You want him setting up goals. And he can't with Weiss and Helm on the wing. It's a little bit like having Ovechkin on a line with guys who can't pass well. He's got an elite skill at one timing the puck, which is lost of nobody can pass it to him. Same with Datsyuk. He's an elite playmaker. But he can't make plays if guys can't finish them. Both of Datsyuk's best statistical seasons came when he had a legit scoring threat on his wing (Zetterberg and Hossa).

For some context, one Kings fan started a thread about "no top end prospects" as a reaction to the "hfboards Top 50 prospects" not having any Kings prospects.

If you read the thread, there are a couple people who are concerned, but most people rightly point out that they don't have the sexy high end picks because many have graduated or been traded, and the Kings are no longer drafting high because of their success. But that they still have a lot of players who could potentially work their way on to the roster and contribute.

Toffoli 47 overall, Muzzin 143 (5 round) their scouting is pretty good. Well I've also read some Kings fans complaining about the regular season performance I guess some would rather not win the cup and instead "celebrate" some meaningless banners instead of THE banner.

but one thing is for sure: if Kopitar keeps this up his salary will heavily increase and with discussions of Anschutz willing to sell...maybe this will free up one of their top players

You're right. Muzzin was a great pick in the 5th round. By Pittsburgh.

And then offered a PTO and released by the Preds.

You could still say it speaks to the Kings assessment of young players. Muzzin was essentially given up on by two teams, and is now a key part of the Kings defense.

During their last Cup run he was second in TOI/G to Doughty, plays on the PP and kills penalties.

What's funny is he was a bit of a whipping boy among Kings fans for a while because of his brutal turnovers, but he's settled down with more experience.
