Krys Barch unloads his frustrations

He's out of touch. How about this quote from his twitter...

In all honesty I would rather play against Drew Miller 82 games a year vs Colton Orr or Jordan Toottoo.

I had a good laugh that he actually thought he's good enough to crack a lineup for 82 games. lol

Who wouldn't ? Miller brings nothing to the table, Orr is as tough as they come and Toottoo while not as tough will hit everything that moves.

If I'm Malkin, Stamkos, or any skilled player - my team is on the PP - I'd much prefer playing against a penalty killing TooToo or Orr than Miller.

Apparently they'd be useless on our 4th line cause you know - they cannot possess the puck...

Yeah because our fourth line is so good at well....nothing ?

I'll trust the comment from somebody who has actually played in the NHL and maybe even against all of the mentioned guys. If he says its more difficult to play against Orr, Toottoo I have no reason to question it.It's not like this is coming from a blogger or someone with no NHL experience at all...like it or not our fourth (4) line doesn't worry anybody no matter if skilled or not.

I'm sure Drew Miller would prefer to play against Krys Barch 82 games a year too. Who wouldn't want to line up across from a guy who can barely skate and only has a rudimentary understanding of how to actually play the game of hockey?

So...How about the other 2 guys that make up the 4th line...They kill penalty's too?

Glendening and Andersson? Yes, yes they do.

Yeah - pretty much - other than biding time until our top line catches their breath.

But that's kind of exactly what it's about. They kill penalties and absorb some tough minutes so Datsyuk and Zetterberg don't have to.

While guys like Orr and to a lesser extent Tootoo would be a liability in those circumstances.

Well - being 12th in the league while on the pk is respectable...I'll give you that.

So being worse is preferable? It seems like you're arguing that because we weren't great at something last year, we shouldn't care about it, and make it even worse by adding a fighter. Smart.

It's all a moot point anyway...No way in hell does Babcock dress anyone of the likes of a Tootoo, or an Orr.

Sure it's a moot point because a fourth line is not that important. I couldn't care less if they score goals or not, their job is simple: keep the other team honest and provide some much needed breaks for the top guys.

If Barch would have said it's easier to play against Orr, Toottoo I would have reacted the same way, since this is coming from soneone who has played in this league for quite some time.

Is that what I said?

PK is only a part of the game...4th liners take to ice outside of that...Try not putting words in my mouth.

Oh, enforcers are better at some other part of the game than our fourth line? What's that? Fighting?

Well that doesn't sound like circular logic at all does it? We should sign a fighter because they're better at fighting than non-fighters. Smart.

Unless you weren't talking about fighting. Which part of the game are enforcers better at again? Taking penalties?

If the mass waiving of goons like Orr and McLaren this offseason wasn't already an indication that having enforcers no your roster is retarded, wait until the end of the season and see how Calgary did with their enforcer fourth line. We already know it will give Krys Barch a boner, but outside of that I suspect that the team will stink and the line itself will be putrid statistically.

But here's the kicker. That's what Burke wants. He want a s***ty team so he can draft McDavid. And while his team is s***ty, he'd like to sell some tickets, so he goons it up. This isn't a strategy to be a good team. It's a marketing ploy to be a bad team but still excite dummies like Krys Barch. Apparently it worked.

TSN just posted a radio segment discussing the diminishing role of the enforcer.

They point to analytics and then fail to reasonably connect the two in any way.

Please don't turn that into another pro/anti enforcer thread. My intention was to give inside on how a former NHL player feels degraded;pissed off and is giving his thoughts on which players are harder or easier to play against (we are talking about fourth liners here of course).

btw. I'd rather spend time with cool, down to earth heavyweight champs/tough guys instead of some mum's basement dwellers who aren't doing anything other than playing around with Excel state sheets 24/7 and act like know it all smartasses no appreciation more pity for that "new wave"...I would be surprised if one of them ever watched a game without a cam or calculator...

Frank.... you started the thread quoting a player complaining about how the role he and others fill for teams (enforcer/agitator) is being diminished.

I'm not sure how you're surprised that would turn into a discussion about exactly that.

I'm not sure what you mean by this...

The state nerds you know that new TSN guys who seem to provide nothing else, than stupid tables filled with math stuff instead of easy to understand (Goals, Assists, Point Totals) things. I mean, everyone can sit in the basement and play around with excel sheets they didn't need to hire someone for that.

It's more that Miller can actually serve a purpose. ie. kill penalties

Before you say "anyone can kill penalties". Orr and Tootoo sure can't...

Our PK couldn't kill a flee in last year's playoffs. We have plenty of forwards that can kill penalties.

Nothing? Miller is one of the better shot blocking forwards in the entire league and plays D like a champ. Very solid fourth liner.

But is he a player who's tough to play against in a playoff series? Does he wear other teams down?

I say no to both questions. Not saying Barch is tough to play against in the playoffs, but Miller is not my ideal 4th liner. I think a 4th liner should be a rugged, larger forward who wears defenders down in the corner. Miller is essentially a 6'2 toothpick with limited offensive skills, so he gets put on the 4th line.

Well ya I agree to an extent. Much like Datsyuk and Zetterberg aren't necessarily my "ideal" stars.

I mean... I'd prefer them to be a few inches bigger and a few pounds heavier and a little more aggressive but since they're not I'm not going to discredit their other abilities. Much like I'm not going to discredit Millers.
