Kindl on the block

In all honesty, I wouldn't see pairing Kindl with Kronwall as such a bad thing, at least for a few games to start the season. See if he can gain some confidence... Doubt it would work, but hey, why not "give it a try" hey Kip?... lol

Troll away troll lol. You'll never get me to bite on opening day. I'm just in too good of a mood.

Not sure if you're serious, or he was trolling, but he might be onto something...Maybe Kindl does need to play with someone better to help elevate his game, and to become more consistent?

It could work, or it could blow up in their faces, but it's at least an attempt to maximize what we have.

Hmmmmm, Kindl getting regular shifts against other teams' top lines? I think I'll pass on that & get my scares from horror movies over Halloween instead. Easier on the heart that way.

Oh I agree...I'd rather see Ouellette instead of Kindl in the line up, but since we have what we have - maybe a shake-up is what's needed?

If that were the case...

Kronner - Kindl

Ericson - DD

Quincey - Smith

EDIT - mix & match the bottom 2 pairings.

The Wings need Kronwall playing 23+ minutes a night, and against top talent so to make that pairing work you either have to drastically reduce Kronwall's minutes to something Kindl can handle or you put Kindl out there for big minutes against top talent, which as ogreslayer pointed out, would be a horror show.

I guess there's a scenario where you mix and match to get some of Kronwall's minutes with him, but I can't see Kindl being his regular defensive partner in a game.

But basically I keep hoping someone will post a twitter link saying he's been traded for a pick. It's beyond time to cut bait with him and let the young guys get their shot.

Lol I was half kidding, but I just meant it could potentially raise his trade value but I know it wouldn't happen, and even if they did experiment with it, I highly doubt it would be a success... And Kip, I'm not sure if you were serious, but I was kidding about the "give it a try" comment. I'd like to think I'm one of the 'non-trolls' on here lol.

...a long time ago, before I was a member here, I was a contributing member of the old Detroit News chat forum, and I remember like it was yesterday I went ape s*** when they drafted Kindl... you say, what, you Lefty, going ape s***? No way! Yes, believe it! Anyhow I hated it when it happened, hated it when he started making appearances, but like most of us, warmed up to him a bit in the lockout season because he finally seemed to making a turn for the better. Boy we were ALL fooled! I am mad at myself for getting on his bandwagon for a bit, I usually do not do that (ie. Hudler, Franzen.) But I quickly fell out of favor with him again last season, as did many. I am not saying "I am right" "I told you so" but I am just remembering the day he was drafted (at that point the highest picked we have had in a long time.)

Drafts are a crap shoot, and yes, he was scouted as a top defender at the time, but something just didn't sit right with me drafting yet another soft European. I have since come off that stance on Europeans, but even when he was here for the first time all season, he just never impressed me. Even though his junior days were played in the OHL (Kitchener) and he learned (or seemed to be learning) the North American game. Now fast forward to this off season, and who was the guy we were pursuing hard to make our D better? Niskanen...who just happened to be drafted after Kindl. Again, crap shoot...and lately it seems that Holland has been doing awesome at his draft table, so I am not blaming Holland for Kindl, but as with a lot of drafts, damn what could've been...

Yes but every draft is like that in hindsight, and the Wings certainly weren't the only teams to miss out on those players you listed. Not every pick pans out and at least Kindl made it to the big leagues. There's a lot of guys in that draft, many who were even drafted before Kindl who never even made it to the NHL.

I hear you, but its all just hindsight.... like how we picked Ferraro and the pick after that the Avs got O'Reilly.

What I think is most frustrating now is that the Wings don't give up on bad picks. Kindl has had his chance here. Move on. Compare this to the NFL. Even the Lions, one of sports' s worst franchises, wash their hands of bad picks faster than the Wings (see Mikel Leshoure, Chris Greenwood, Nate Freese, etc.) Come to think of it, the Lions get rid of a lot of picks ... Hmm. :)

He has to go. Although if he plays poorly at the start of the year it'll reduce his trade value (if that's possible) and make it harder for him to be moved. One can only hope that if he holds the fort, management will still want to trade him.

To be fair, considering that the wings are currently icing Dats, Zatta, Franzen, Ericsson, Helm, Nyquist, Quincey (talking draft only), Andersson, Nesty - the highest of whom was a third rounder...and also tats, Howard & Jurco in the 2nd, with Sproul, Oullette, Backman, Jensen, Mrazek, Athanasiou, Marchenko, Pulks, Callahan all 2nd round or (mostly condsiderably) lower drafting really isn't something wings fans can complain about. Sure we miss a few goodies, but seeing as pretty much the entire roster were players turned down by almost every other team at least once (and usually much more) lets not feel sorry for ourselves.

As for Kindl specifically, the guy has size and for the most part the requisite technical ability...he just doesn't have the game intelligence, bravery or speed of thought, These are usually things that come with experience rather more than has been the case with him. You look at the tools and its easy to see why he was picked where he was. Stick the mentality, drive and improvement rates of a helm, nyquist or even Callahan in him and you'd have the kind of player you'd feel good about spending a late 1st on. In fact if you could stick Almquist's game brain and confidence into Kindl, you would have the offensive 2nd pair man to drool over. But he'll always be a 6/7 here as he lacks the personal confidence, the coaches confidence and the comparative intestinal fortitude to stick. Its understandable...I wouldn't have the physical courage to play in the NHL.

He could do a quincy and flourish in the right system...We just have to hope that a few overtly offensive teams lose some D to medium term injuries ...

Rangers lose Boyle for 4-6 weeks with a broken hand in their season opener... but it's probably a little early for them to panic and make a move.

Hell, unless they've already been looking.. it's probably a little early for ANY team to make a move.

I think we're going to be stuck with him until Holland decides to waive him. Then, and only maybe then, will we see a team have any interest in Kindl.

No doubt, he and Q were the two worst Wings on the ice last night. That sequence where Jimmy (should've froze it) passed the puck behind the net to Kindl and it took them about (what seemed like) 2-3 minutes to clear the zone defined exactly how bad K and Q are.

I don't think there is any trade value in Kindl. He will be best served waived. Even then I find it hard believing a team would pick him up. I don't know what kind of cap relief they would get if he played in GR, but the roster spot alone is the valuable asset here.

Unfortunately, Q is here and again, no trade value. He by far needs to go, I am still baffled that he got re-signed, and a raise. Anyhow, if I were choosing between Q and K to waive/trade to make room for XO, I keep Kindl and dump Q on the waiver wire.

edit: In the perfect scenario, both are gone and XO and Jensen are brought up making our D full of youth and excitement.

Kronner - Ericsson

Smith - Dekeyser

XO - Jensen

Yup, Quincey had a terrible game... Do you even watch the games? Or do you just repeat the same old drivel after every game not knowing what really happened?...

I'll agree that they had one bad shift together where they had trouble getting the puck out of the zone, but other than that, Quincey was solid. No he wasn't spectacular by any means but that's not what we expect from Quincey, we just need him to play solid defense, which he did.

Also, Quincey does have some trade value for sure, and it wouldn't surprise me if a couple teams have some interest in Kindl in a few weeks as well.

Nah man. Quincey's supposed to suck, so he sucked. Also, Cleary sucked hard. So did Jason Williams and Derek Meech.

Oh, my bad. K and Q rocked! Quincey looked bad more than he looked "solid." I like that word "solid." You cannot say he was good, but "solid." He looked "un-solid" to me, the entire game I watched. As did Kindl. Horrible? No....good or "solid?" Hell no...

Also I heard that Cleary was by far the worst guy in the press box last night. He spilled 19 soft drinks and 2 trays of nachos....pathetic!

I agree Ericsson wasn't "solid" either....like I said in the other thread, this team would be perfectly fine without Big E on it as well as Q and K.
