I don't see what's so bad about the lines. Kid line together, Z and Franzen together, Nestrasil-Helm-Nyquist as a 3rd line compared to Bertuzzi-Andersson-Cleary as a 3rd line last opening night, and a solid 4th line.

I'm pretty excited to get things started.

Our forward group should be as good, or better, than Boston's.

Defence? That's another story.

Yeah, at least we don't have that Kindl-Lashoff pairing that pretty much ruined our chances against them in the playoffs.

The first line probably won't last long. Babcock has pulled Abdelkader from that duty before, which makes it even more confusing that he keeps putting him up there. I guess because Franzen won't use the body he figures that line would be too small with Nyquist up there. That's the only reason I can think of.

I think the lines look so questionable because there's still so many question marks about them. Sheahan is impressing, but is he really second line potential? Remains to be seen. I think it's fair to say Tatar and Nyquist will be at the very least second line guys, but Jurco has been on and off the last year, so we don't know for sure he'll tear it up.

Nestrasil is another question mark. We know the fourth line will be ineffective, so until these other players become more familiar and reliable to us any lineup is going to look questionable.

Wings skating with same lines as yesterday, so it appears as if Weiss and Cleary will be scratched tonight.

Looks like it's Kindl in over Lashoff tonight against Boston. He's working PK with Quincey.

Well with Kindl in... check out the D Pairs

Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive · now

Looks like Kindl is in and Lashoff out. D pairs: Kronwall-Ericsson, DeKeyser-Kindl, Quincey-Smith.

For f***s sake, I was really looking forward to the DeKeyser - Smith pairing... Babcock decided to scrap that and go back to the DeKeyser - Kindl, Quincey - Smith pairings...

Something has to be up with Weiss. There is no way he should be scratched over a number of guys in the lineup tonight...

Samuelsson scored the first Red Wings goal of the 2013-14 season, any predictions on who will score the first of this season? I'm going to say Tatar, sexy feed from Jurco.

A great American poet once said "Is it worth it, let me work it, I put my thing down, flip it and reverse it".

Truer words have never been spoken. And in that spirit of flipping it and reversing it I'm going to guess Jurco scores on a sexy feed from Tatar.

God Bless the Detroit Red Wings, and God Bless Missy Elliott.

I'm really hoping Franzen has a different kind of year. He said he doesn't want to be labeled as lazy, and while we all known his tendencies, when that guy decides to take over a game...he certainly does. Here's to hoping he has that attitude all year. I for one am excited what may be unleashed.

over 7 mill in the press box.... beaut.

pretty excited to see jurco in the lineup though!

it's too bad mantha got hurt or he'd probably be in there instead of Nestrasil....

but here's to hoping Nestrasil has a killer debut and cleary gets waived instead!

LGW! Thank God hockey is back!

It's hereeeeeeee

Wish they'd swap Nyquist and Abdelkader. He just shouldn't be on the top line anymore.

My thoughts too. Looks like they are going for some size up front. Hopefully Mule and Abby can be effective.

That's just crazy that Weiss is scratched. I have not paid much attention to the preseason, so I cannot really comment on the decision. I am a bit surprised because I can't remember Babcock benching a big contract guy so explicitly. Obviously we've seen some peculiar treatment (with respect to lineup decisions) with other guys (e.g. Tootoo). Was Weiss really so pitiful in the exhibitions or something? My God. This might go down as one of Holland's worst signings.

Not necessarily. Part of why Nestrasil is in the line-up is because of waivers. Mantha may have been sent down to GRs just because he was exempt.
