I'm not shocked over the call. We all know the officiating in the NHL is horrible. Like what other people have stated, we had plenty of opportunities to score. Don't get into a position where a call like this can lose you a game.

How is it that everyone knows Kronwall was hooked yet you have to be the goober saying he tripped on the boards?

He actually did trip up on the boards. His skate hit the board and he fell. That was after the hook though and shouldn't negate the hooking penalty.

they said it right, the hook and the hand had nothing to do with the fall. The hook is a penalty, but really not at that juncture of the game. My question is though, I thought that if even the slightest of a penalty leads directly to a scoring chance is automatically called no matter what point in the game, right? Oh well, like I said, the ref was probably hoping it didn't go in and he wouldn't be the goat...but he was. Sucks, but if the shoe was on the other foot, I'd take it.

Well said. Completely agree.

He had his stick on Kronwall's glove. Doesn't matter if his hook contributed to the fall. That was hooking, not tripping.

And that's what everyone is in agreement with. But even with a missed call if kronwall didn't trip on the boards they don't score either. It's just two unfortunate things that happened at the same time leading to a goal.

That's a textbook hook in the "new" NHL. Even if they are usually more reluctant to call penalties late in games, you have to make that call when it leads directly to a scoring chance and GWG. You could tell even by Rogaine's body language that he knew he got away with one.

The Wings played well at least. Gotta be incredibly frustrating though to see your effort go for nothing because the refs can't do their jobs yet again.

I thought Detroit played an overall decent game tonight and they certainly deserved to come away with point(s) tonight. Howard needs to cut down on the amateur mistakes behind and around the net. It is creating unnecessary pressure and tension on the defense. He's been around the majors long enough and should know better by now.

But if they called the hook, the whistle would've been blown when Getslaf touches the puck and then there isn't even a scoring chance.

What was your point?

Thank god the season is 82 games long. If the Wings keep playing the way they have been over these first two games, this loss (and the nonpenalty) won't mean a thing.

Having said that, this team looks like an entirely new team compared to last year. They've been really fun to watch so far, and at least through two games, the overall team approach is much different than in the past. The Wings' strategy is much more aggressive and based on speed, which is wonderful to see, because I don't think the coaching staff realized just how quick this next generation of Wings are until they were in the lineup last year. We've been without a solid identity the past few years, but it looks like they're fully embracing quickness, at least based on two games of hockey.

The point is that's not the ONLY reason they scored.

They missed a penalty

Kronwall tripped on boards

Howard had a wide open look and missed

E forgot he could skate and move into better position

But yet it's all on just the missed call...any of the four things go different and there is no goal.

I'm starting to really resent Howard. He seems like a good guy but that contract is ridiculous and there's no way any of his teammates can have any sort of confidence in him. 1 good/decent game 5 bad ones repeat.

The first goal was bad. The second one was on Smith not getting the puck out and it ended up right on Kesler's stick. Perfect shot by Getzlaf on the GWG -- really the only thing you can maybe fault Howard for there was playing too deep in his net. I don't think Jimmy has been terrific by any means yet, but it has only been two games and he has shown the ability to be consistently good before in his career.

it's just that every scoring chance is in the back of the net. I never noticed a single big save from him. We were dominating in the 3rd and he lets in two on there only two decent scoring chances. Obviously a good team is going to push hard and you have to expect your goalie to make a save on a good scoring chance at least once a game. but none today and we lose
