Jeff Petry; trade between us and oilers

Yeah im reluctant to give up any of our top forward prospects, especially for a D. Its looking like in the future we'll have one of those stable D's that has above average guys top to bottom, which im okay with.

Its going to be more difficult to replace dats and Z in the coming years then it is Kronwall and...... Quincey?

edit:

To me, tatar is untouchable but I may be biased. Ive been following him since draft day so I have a definite soft spot for him since he was drafted the same year i was eligble

As previously mentioned, Jurco has untapped potential albeit probably 50 points but is as close to another dats as we'll ever have when it comes to stick handling.

I had initially thought nyquist was gonna be a big bust this season, but hes looked phenomenal.... could easily be our next Z IMO.

I'd hate to lose any of these guys for anyone not named Crosby or Mcdavid. Maybe Eichel.

I don't think Meyers would require much more than Kindl + prospect (Frk) + 1st rounder. I think the Wings should take a shot if the puzzle pieces they have to give up aren't going to be seeing time with the big club in the next 4-5 years. Petry isn't worth more than Kindl and a 3rd round pick.

None of Petry, Bogosian, or Myers is noticeably better than Brendan Smith, and all of them are worse than our top three defensemen. As such, I'm not willing to give very much in trade. I'm definitely not losing the first goal scoring winger (with size) that we've developed in ten years for a new fourth best defenseman.

Yandle sure. He's legit. But just say "no" to the still-waiting-to-reach-their-potential club.

I don't want KH to touch any of the names being thrown out there. Not that I don't think any of them have value - I'm just worried about the assets being shipped off the other way. It makes sense to move a defensive prospect (since we're, in theory, going to have an abundance of NHL defenders in the near future) and a pick, but I imagine teams are looking for a quality forward as well. The ones teams are going to want (Mantha, Nyquist, Tatar) are the one I don't want to part with at all.

No way Mantha and Nyquist are going anywhere. It's not even worth worrying about. If any deal happens, those names won't be a part of it unless it's for a legitimate superstar; and I mean SUPERSTAR superstar. And I don't think that's going to happen, do you?

Tatar and Jurco though? I could see one of those two moving to get a more substantial deal done, but I think we could afford it. I hate the idea of losing Tatar in many ways, but there's a part of me that's really on the fence about him anyways. If he sweetened the pot enough to bring in a legitimate quality defenseman, I'd be able to stomach it, but I honestly doubt that it'll come to pass. I don't think he's as untouchable as Mantha and Nyquist, but I don't think he's too far behind either.

I'm in agreement with you. Meyers is young, big, and a good skater. Worth looking at in case he fills his potential and gets in the range of Victor Hedman. The others just aren't as appealing.

Is that what I said lol? I could have sworn I said I'd take Yandle, and leave Myers (and the other two) in the dust bin. Unlike much of the NHL watching masses, I'm not mesmerized by big guys just because they're big. He's an underachiever who makes too much money. I want producers, not question marks.

I think Yandle is the only one I woul.d truly touch but not for anything other than kindl a 1st and possible frk I know for sure that wont do it so I say pass goose tats jurco mantha will be the future of this team and we need them to establish that we don't need to cut the beast off at the legs on a chance D who might work terrible under us

Petry is a decent D-man, but not worth Jurco in my book. Jurco's cieling is wayyyyy too high to trade for a guy like Petry.

I think i like you because we share a live for Jurco.

Anytime his name gets brought up I say no automatically.

He's big.

Fast.

Has beautiful hands.

And he hits.

Love.

Not live.

Well unless his hands are beautiful at fightin' we need to trade that bum for someone to keep Datsyuk healthy. Besides he's redundant. We've got size, grit, and offensive savvy in spades.

Me too. But Holland doesn't get it done with producers (Hossa, Suter, Parise, Semin, Horton, etc.) For whatever reason, so we are left with potential as our trading candidate.

Lol I hope you're being sarcastic. We might have offensive savvy at times... but not the first two.

The grit and size should clearly show he was being sarcastic.

Not to mention two of of three biggest players franzina and kindl at like they're 4 foot 11.

Agreed (partially). As such, if we're going to count on unknown quantities to step up, I'd rather we rely on the potential of our own prospects than hack defensemen making 4-5 million bucks a year. Myers scored 25 points last year and was bad defensively (all for around 5 million dollars a year). I'm POSITIVE that Ryan Sproul could score 25 pts and be bad defensively for a much more palpable price tag.

Good points. That's why i think a Quincey and Kindl offer would be very low risk for both teams. At the worst, Buffalo gets 2 NHL defensemen at reasonable rates who are in their prime. At the worst, the Wings get a 24 year old RH defenseman with a lot of potential. It would be hard to argue that Babcock and Holland would slot Myers behind Sproul and Jensen. Would you be unhappy if the D pairings were Kronwall-Ericsson, Dekeyser-Smith, Ouellet-Myers? I think those 6 would be tough to play against. I like our D as is (even Quincey and Kindl), but I do think we need to start making moves now to open up some spots for our prospects. Having 11 guys who can play NHL D is great, but not if we don't have 1 guy who is a good RW.

I wish this was the case, but media outlets were reporting that Buffalo was starting the conversation with one of Gus, Tatar, Jurco or Mantha.

And that makes it not worth it for an underwhelming $5M defenseman. We have D prospects, why trade away our goal scorers for another logjam at D?

Agreed. At least one of Quincey/Kindl has to be moved.
