LGW Moderator Problems

I see you had exactly one post deleted from the Coyotes GDT that was part of a number of off-topic posts that were deleted regarding trolling/not trolling. And the problem is?

The problem is that we moderated something. In Roboturner's perfect world, nothing on this site would get touched ever, anything that is said goes, and there are no repercussions for breaking the forums rules.

We are going to moderate, because there are rules on this forum and it's our job to enforce them. If a GDT is going way off track after a loss and you lose a post because of the need for us to edit it, even though we at times have to remove dozens of other posts in the process that no one else seems to come here regularly and complain about, it's something you need to come to terms with.

If this thread is to remain open solely for Roboturner to continue to revert back to in the event that we have to moderate something just to complain about, I don't see a constructive reason to leave it open at all. If you crave and explanation that badly, just let us know and we can submit formal warnings instead of simply removing the content, and in your warning you can have a detailed description of why it was moderated.

So in response to "I see you guys are back to deleting my posts, meanwhile the "in" clique can post whatever the hell they want", my response is stop replying and contributing to off topic discussions that progress the derailing of threads and you won't have to worry about your posts being removed. We have full documentation of everything removed and it passes through Matt also, so instead of acting like the victim like we are pinpointing your individual post and removing it while leaving the rest up in the thread, state more factual information that isn't directed at bashing the moderation staff at every opportunity and state the truth that all the content is gone, including yours, that set that particular GDT off track.

The only issue I've had recently, and haven't even mentioned it is the trolling/baiting. I agree with the rule, but it seems some posters get to do it every game and get away with it, I don't like to block any users, I've only ever blocked one then unblocked him not long after. But certain posters like simonsin come into every gdt say the wings suck and will lose, and then only come back if they actually do lose to say I told you so. that breaks like 3 rules alone, do post constructively, do not bait others or troll, and the thing about not posting unless it adds to the conversation

Hoping to pick up a new trolling motor and bait this weekend when I go fishing in my boat that has flame decals on the side as I watch the complete series of Lord of the Rings and Hobbit Trilogy, fav post is when the dragon flames those trolls yet they conquer, such a beautiful inspiring story

Why would you watch movies when you're on a boat? Talk about a waste

Maybe a moderator could drop a message to the user they sanction. I've just had a post deleted and the thread locked out to me, without explanation. I didn't have a clue that I was pushing a boundary, especially since I was in the "State Your Unpopular Opinion" thread. It seemed like that was the place to spew what others might not want to hear. Regardless, I pushed it too far, got deleted, and got locked out of a thread. Okay. But why? If a moderator is going to do all that, what's the issue with a quick message telling me why it happened?

I suspect that the post deletion and thread lock may have had something to do with the 2 mod warnings that are conspicuously posted and obviously not heeded. We're all for transparency, but how much communication is enough? How much time do you think is fair for us to spend on things like this? How much clearer can we be about the expectations? This is not sarcasm, these are really serious questions.

And no thread, regardless of its title, can evade the forum guidelines. Two warnings is plenty. Unfortunately a few caused what seemed to be a fun thread to be locked for everyone.

I can tell you why your post was deleted, but let's try something. Read the warnings, peruse the forum guidelines and think about your post. What could that post have possibly contained that would warrant the aforementioned actions?

I'm not your damn monkey to go looking back through posts to read the warnings. I've read the guidelines before. Instead of just telling me, specifically, what the issue was, you unroll your smartassery and try to get me to go looking and interpret a post or a guideline in the same manner that you you did. No thanks. In fact, I'm fairly certain a quick note explaining the problem would have been quicker than what you posted.

And you bothering to read the multiple warnings would've been quicker than posting what you have in this thread, and likely would've prevented your post from being deleted in the first place.

I'm unlocking the thread now but as soon as it veers into territory that the mods have warned about, it's getting locked permanently.

I'm sorry somebody pissed in your Wheaties this morning. I wasn't being an *******, I was trying to get everyone who reads this thread to practice critical thinking and maybe avoid posting things that get deleted. That saves everyone time. Posting the warnings was harold's way of trying to save everyone time and avoid deletion and possibly suspension. If you can't be bothered to read helpful hints posted and announced, then we can't help you.

Again, I've read the warning posts and the guidelines before. I guess the issue is interpretation. I'm not sure which rule you're using and how you are interpreting it. Further, if a mod would just send that little note, maybe even saying not to reply because it's information and not a discussion, a person might avoid those posts later. How about some critical thinking on your part? Nobody has pissed in my Wheaties, but I have a very low tolerance for smartasses.

Like I said, I couldn't care less anymore. The post is deleted, and you won't tell me why, specifically. I guess I'll just assume that it offended you on a personal level, and since you are unable to communicate your thoughts effectively, you deleted the post. Respond if you will, I won't read it. You can't convey complete thoughts, and I won't try to interpret them.

I kinda agree with H&WR. When I was suspended I had to do a lot of digging as to why, and a lot of it was still pretty inconclusive. It may be plainly apparent to you as mods, but it's not always to us, especially when it's borderline and you're using our posting history to justify it.

On the other hand, I realize it would probably be asking too much to have you message every person as to why their post deleted etc.(I don't know how much disciplinary stuff you guys deal with on a daily basis)

I don't have a solution, I just think H&WR's point is vaild and not a bowl full of piss wheaties.

Just like you guys don't have time to issue everyone an explanation, many don't have the time to read every warning post that's 5 pages back from what's relevant.

EDIT: I also think having the rules permanently pinned to the front page of general discussion would help new members immensely, and also leave them no excuse.

I may have already said this in the this thread but when deleting posts I generally do try and send the person an explanation. I know it's annoying to have posts just disappear. That said, it doesn't always happen. Sometimes it's because a thread has gone completely off the rails and I'm just trying to get rid of problematic posts before someone replies to it. And honestly, sometimes it doesn't happen just because I don't have time. I may be checking in before I leave for work, or late at night.

If there's a warning in the thread title and have been multiple warnings in the thread, I often won't take the extra time to send an explanation. When you see "mod warning" in a thread title that means there's been problems and the thread is on a short leash. If someone can't be bothered to read the specific warnings in the thread, I'm not inclined to take the extra time to repeat what's already been covered.

In this case it was about political discussion, which is not allowed here (Actually I need to check the forum rules because I can't remember if they're officially listed there). And I think the confusion stemmed from me locking the thread to clean up a few posts, then honestly I just forgot to unlock it and went to bed Shocking I know, but mods aren't perfect). No one was specifically locked out of the thread.

Pinning the rules is a good idea and we have done it in the past, usually at the beginning of a new season. It just clutters things up to have it up there when the site is very active so we eventually take it down.

Hello mods ... is this spamming on boards something that cannot be solved? It's been a couple of days and not the first time. Surely there is a fix out there, let's get on this!

Even ignore preference doesn't get it out of the thread listing

We've confirmed that the recent influx of spammers are actual people, not spambots or anything like that. As such, there may not be much we can do to prevent the occasional attack.

We have tools that make cleaning up these attacks extremely easy (one click on their profile and they're banned, content removed and ip-blocked). But unfortunately we can't use these tools until the spam posts are brought to our attention. That's where we need members to use the "report post" tool.

When a post is reported, the system sends an email to each of the boards moderators and Admin. That way we get notified, even if we're not on the boards.

One thing though, most of these spammers tend to attack the boards in the very late/early hours, when most people are asleep. LGW mods are just like everyone else, we have jobs and responsibilities that make it hard to be online at the time these spammers hit. So please understand that we will take care of the attacker as soon as we can, but it may be several hours before a mod can be online.
