Ahhhhhh. Yeah that goal was clearly Ericsson's fault lol.

Yah, that one was just a CF all the way around. A bit of blame to go around on everyone. The funny thing about that goal is how no one blamed Nesty at all. If you watch the replay, his miss on Getz started it.

I mean, other the arguable "no call", I don't think any blame NEEDS to be directed. Kronwall toe picked, everyone thought a penalty was getting called, and Ryan Getzlaf is one of the best players in the world. In short, it was a flukey goal. I'm not too interested in pointing fingers on that one.

That's about right. 98% just fluke blue moon stuff. 1% bad coverage on the 4 wings. 1% Getzlaf is frocking good.

Yup. Pulkkinen and his 25 goals a year are sitting in GR while Drew Miller continues to unimpress at all areas of hockey. "But he's good on the pk.". Yah? Show me an article that says he's superior to Dats/Zetterberg/Sheahan/Franzen/Helm/Abdelkader/Anderson/Glendening. I would not rank Miller higher than anyone on our pk other than Tatar, Nyquist, and Jurco. But just like you said, Babcock's low scoring grind it out style keeps Miller employed and well.

Couple things. Pulks is not a fourth line grinder, so Miller isn't keeping him out of the lineup. Also, Pulks wouldn't score 25 in the NHL. He's too predictable. What I saw of him in his call-up last year was that he has one trick: sit and wait for a pass at the hash marks. I think he could be a success in the league with some tweaking but he's not ready yet.

Ideally, in a few years I'd like to see something like:

Franzen-Zetterberg-Nyquist

Mantha-Datsyuk-Tatar

Jurco-Sheahan-Pulkinnen

Abdelkader-Helm-???

I think we're going to have tough choices to make with regards to Helm, Abdelkader, Glendening, Miller and Andersson in the next year or two. But this lineup gives a nice blend of size, speed and skill, I think.

But anyway, go Wings!

Another guy who only had that same trick was Brett Hull.

Go Wings!!

I like your lineup. It, of course, means that Weiss has been traded - Maybe if we keep him out of the lineup he will ask for a trade. I hopes he gets a shot and excels - that would best for the team, but who knows.

To me the choice between Helm, Abdelkader, Glendening, Miller and Andersson is pretty easy. I think Helm and Abby bring their game every night and are an important heart of the team (the only question is Helm's health, but if he plays 75+ games this year then that consideration won't be there). Glendening's faceoff ability, agitating style and RH shot gives him a versatility that Andersson and Miller don't have. Andersson has been surprisingly good so far this year, but I think he's gone when Dats comes back (even though it should be Cleary). I like Miller and he does help out the PK and was our hit leader last year I think (even though I don't seem to notice his physicality), but I think he's ultimately replaceable.

I'm not convinced on Pulkinnen. I think it's going to be hard for him to make the team. beyond the Weiss situation, he'll also be fighting for that spot with Nestrasil, Athanasioau and Janmark.

I wasn't too impressed with Pulkinnen when he was up either. He definitely wanted to release that bomb of his, but I don't know if he ever got a clean, hard shot off in any of the games he was up. His time and space were cut down too quick for him to properly tee a shot off. Aside from that, he was ineffective. Now that isn't to say that he won't be a regular NHL player (although I still have my doubts), but as of right now, I'm more comfortable with the guys in our lineup than Pulkinnen.

The one individual (maybe two) that I would prefer to see with Detroit is Oulette and perhaps Jensen in replace for Lashoff and Kindl. The Weiss situation is odd in that he has the skill to take a roster spot, but for whatever reason has been unable to do so. Its all speculation because we obviously don't have access to practices or team meetings, but I can only guess that having not played hockey in essentially 2+ years, and being with a new team and a new system that he hasn't really had a chance to grow into last year, Weiss is still knocking the rust off his game, which seemed apparent during the preseason. I mentioned this in a thread in the past, but in the preseason, Weiss definitely looked more quick and involved than last year, but his timing was terrible, and he didn't seem in synch with the flow of the game. That may take some time to overcome. We're only a week into the new season, and all in all I think the team that has been dressed has played pretty well so far, so there hasn't been any urgency to put Weiss into the lineup, but it will be interesting to see how he looks when he finally gets the nod.

Beyond miffed this is on Versus instead of FSD. It's bad enough I can't watch hockey on CBC anymore. I'm hoping they've improved their broadcast considerably since last I watched.

Wait, they still have McGuire (or however you spell it), so that hope is dashed.

GO WINGS!!
