There's Howard being "below" average like he usually is in shootouts.

That's a polite way to put it. I'd actually go as far as saying he is typically poor in shootouts. Still, he got 3 of 4 points against Boston. How many would have honestly expected that?

Take the point and be thankful. Awful peformance all the way around from everyone but Howard, Nyquist and DeKeyser. Babs included for having Nyquist start on the third line, not using him on the PP in OT and having Nestrasil lead the shootout. Tatar didn't even get to go and he's probably the best option with Pav out.

With this lineup, I didn't. We did get 3 of 4 points. But they need to improve in shootouts.

It starts with Howard. He can't let beach balls get past him each time there's a breakaway. And yeah, he played a good game, but still, he needs to be better in shootouts. Whether you like them or not, they're a part of the NHL, and for bubble teams like the Wings, they're immensely important.

Nothing to be ashamed of except the dismal power play that desperately needs Datsyuk back. Howard was great. Still can't believe we haven't seen Weiss yet.

I didn't watch the preseason. Did he look better than the garbage we saw last season?

And again. Remember how many shootout points Howard lost us last year?

Really. Your going to bag on Howard for the shootout when he was the only reason the Wings got a point. Rremember that you have to score in the shootout to win. The Wings were just as bad at converting in the shootout as Howard was stopping them last year so dont put all those lost points on Howard. Look at the attempts by Boston compared to the attempts by Detroit tonight. Same thing as last year.

well i guess the preseason shootout is different from regular reason.

i missed the first but i thought it was a terrible game from the wings

howard goose and deke were good

Z was terrible

deke is the most consistent dman we have. he is solid and i love that hes playing on the PP now. i think hes our best defensive dman. now that he gets PP time he might start racking up points too

This one actually started with Nestrasil looking like a 6 year old boy trying to score on his dad.

What would possess you to put Nes in for the shootout? I have been wondering why he is even on this team honestly. Can't blame the guy for not scoring in the shootout since he didn't play for the last 15+ minutes, but man that was an ugly attempt.

Nes has been solid 5 on 5 for it being his first couple games. As effective as Abs, Miller, and Anderson.

How this team got a point tonight is a friggin miracle. Boston has a defensive gameplan. They are not a great offensive team. They threw a lot of shots at Howard but not too many with quality aside from those 2 straight shots he made 2 good saves on. But even in the overtime and shootout it was men against boys. Tonight was our Red Wing team the past 3 years in a nutshell.

A couple things. We were playing a desperate Boston team that simply wanted the win more than we did tonight. We battled hard and it was ugly but at least we got a point out of it. 1-1-1 isn't a bad way to start the season having played against the best 2 teams from last season (without even having our best player)!

- Z had an offffffff night. He is human, get over it. He is a stand up guy he will be the first to admit it and he will get better, no worries there

- Franzen was back to playing the role of Casper

- Jimmy had a great game and is the only reason we got a point. He needs to work on breakaway though because I find what he does too often is just go down on his stomach and hopes the puck hits him

- If I am the coach and I get a 4 on 3 PP to end the game on, I put the players that got us there on the ice... the guys who have it going tonight. I would go Z (you can't not put him on the ice come on), Nyquist and Tatar out there with Kronner or Danny D. Nyquist and Tatar NEEDED to be out there because they are the ones who have had tons of energy and actually generating chances and scoring goals. I am SICK of Franzen just being given ice time for no reason.

All in all I am happy with the point and I know Z will be far better then that against the Laughs on the weekend.

Fair enough. But he's got to be better. As I stated, shootouts are a big part of the NHL playoff picture for the lower seeded teams.
