Fair enough. But he's got to be better. As I stated, shootouts are a big part of the NHL playoff picture for the lower seeded teams.

If the team can get him some goal support in shootouts then I think you might see him save more. It seems like he feels he has to stop everything to even have the slimmest shot at winning a SO and tightens up.

For everyone crying for Tatar, we don't know who our 3rd shooter would have been, do we?

True, but he should have been the first or second regardless.

For guys complaining about Nes in the SO... You guys do know he scored on Rask in the SO in preseason? so why not

Your first shooter is the most important. They set the tone for the rest of the SO as to whether your playing catchup or trying to finish the game. You need your best player shooting first not a rookie 3 games into his career.

Nes has been solid 5 on 5 for it being his first couple games. As effective as Abs, Miller, and Anderson.

OK, but that means nothing when it comes to the shootout, which is what he was referring to. I don't think anyone is clamoring for Abdelkader, Miller, or Andersson in the shootout either.... so why is comparing Nestrasil to them relevant as it relates to the shootout?

Why? the closer is often the most important.

Edit: or at least the most pressure and therefore is probably the hardest

Neither Nestrasil nor Nyquist got the puck on net in the shootout. Yeah Jimmy let in two, but he's the reason the Wings even got the chance to lose that shootout.

Agreed. There is no excuse for an NHL player to not get a shot on net in a shootout. None.

Because you said you were wondering why he was even on the team:

What would possess you to put Nes in for the shootout? I have been wondering why he is even on this team honestly. Can't blame the guy for not scoring in the shootout since he didn't play for the last 15+ minutes, but man that was an ugly attempt.

Guest Praying Mantha

Was a good game. Boston outworked us, but we hung in there. Jimmy in the shootout is just sad, though. He is not good one on one.

Anybody have any idea why Jurco was benched? Also I thought Nyquist had a sub-par game until the third. Zetterberg had a bad night. Lucky to get a point.

Looking forward, I think the Tatar Sheahan Jurco line could make or break the team.

At this point of chicken little time

6th in division and 5th for wild card ....

Boston 4th for wild card we have 2 games in hand

Toronto 3rd for wild card we have 1 game in hand

Columbus(1), Washington(2) even in games played...

Going to be another interesting season.....

The Red Wings have six goals in three games now. Gus Nyquist has exactly half of those goals scored.

Tonight against the Bruins, Nyquist played 15:37. Joakim Andersson only played 11 fewer seconds, Drew Miller around 30 seconds less and worst of all, Luke Glendening played 17:09 tonight. A 4th line center registered over 17 minutes while the Wings best player and only goal-scoring threat so far this season received less or essentially equal ice time as two fringe NHL players and a PK specialist.

That's extremely poor coaching. I love Babs, but this team can't score goals right now. You don't have Pav, refuse to play Weiss and then give your most dynamic offensive threat third line treatment.

Glendy is the only one who shows heart. He plays like abby should. Howard saved them until the usual shootout loss. Too much line juggling, no matter the combos they got manhandled 5 on 5. Nobody can push anyone off the puck, win the small corner battles or get space in the slot. The bruins also won every net front battle at both ends.

I agree with almost everything except the love of Babs. I respect him but hard to love a coach that does some of the things he does.

Let me make this a simple thought. Right now, your best two players are Nyquist and Tatar. Use them. No really, not third line crap, use them! Swapping Abby for Nyquist on the first line made me want to vomit.

It's easy to see Nes miss in the shoot out and say it was a stupid call but for all we know he could be dazzling every day in practice at the shootouts. Hindsight and all....we can complain if he keeps getting opportunities.

I find it hard to believe that a guy with roughly 15 AHL goals is some dazzling offensive threat and all of us die hard fans have somehow missed it.

Nestrasil went first because Babcock likes him. Same reason Glendening played 17:00 minutes and Cleary got the final roster spot.

I'm sure Babs thought "Nesty" could hard work a goal into the net during the shootout. Turns out he wasn't playing heavy enough...ugh.
