Babs needs to identify who is having a bad game and not let them close out the final minute of a 4-3 PP. No excuse why our goal scorers are on the bench there. What did Nyquist get one OT shift? Any idiot watching the game could tell you Tatar and Nyquist were our most dangerous forwards by a long shot.

I find it hard to believe that a guy with roughly 15 AHL goals is some dazzling offensive threat and all of us die hard fans have somehow missed it.

Nestrasil went first because Babcock likes him. Same reason Glendening played 17:00 minutes and Cleary got the final roster spot.

I'm sure Babs thought "Nesty" could hard work a goal into the net during the shootout. Turns out he wasn't playing heavy enough...ugh.

Dazzling was probably a poor choice of words but it's not hard to believe there's a good reason he was chosen, and I suspect he's proven capable at some point.

I don't think Jurco was hurt. Just benched so Babs could roll out Glendening and Andersson more frequently instead. Helm barely played in the third at all either.

Hope you're right, just recall seeing him grimace on the bench at one point and being a little worried. If you are right though, how stupid. Kid line was our best line all game. Scratch that, only threatening line.

He had a nice move in the preseason in the shootout. Other than that I'm sure they see him in practice and know he's got good hands or something. I would've taken Tatar over Nyquist though, I think he's more dynamic in the shootout.

Edit: irrelevant though if Jimmy can't stop even one (though he was great throughout the game).

The Red Wings have six goals in three games now. Gus Nyquist has exactly half of those goals scored.

Tonight against the Bruins, Nyquist played 15:37. Joakim Andersson only played 11 fewer seconds, Drew Miller around 30 seconds less and worst of all, Luke Glendening played 17:09 tonight. A 4th line center registered over 17 minutes while the Wings best player and only goal-scoring threat so far this season received less or essentially equal ice time as two fringe NHL players and a PK specialist.

That's extremely poor coaching. I love Babs, but this team can't score goals right now. You don't have Pav, refuse to play Weiss and then give your most dynamic offensive threat third line treatment.

There's a lot more to the minutes than that though, it's not just putting the best offensive players out more because they're better, it's about putting the right players out at the right time, match ups, and knowing when players are tired. We've heard over and over again in interviews and post game conferences that players were gassed and the coach has to know all of this and respond accordingly.

I'm baffled sometimes too, but I'm not on the bench with all the variables in front of me.

I was at the game. All I have to say is JIMMY!!!

Fyi I almost got the Jimmy Howard chant going a few times but people just weren't into I guess. Too many empty seats. )Embarrassing.

Wayy too many open seats. Jimmy was our best player. The team is so close, we need some push and shove wingers in our bottom 6. Softness always shows when it matters most.

Jimmy is mediocre......he never makes the big save......he never steals us any points.......the team plays better in front of Monster.....

Actually, the last point. Just watch, Monster will go in against Toronto at the weekend and we'll explode for 5 goals.

It's easy to see Nes miss in the shoot out and say it was a stupid call but for all we know he could be dazzling every day in practice at the shootouts. Hindsight and all....we can complain if he keeps getting opportunities.

In practice he is probably going against Howard, so yeah.

Near the end of the game Guss-Sheahan-Tatar were together for a couple of shifts, which was awesome since they were about the only few people making a difference out there.

Kindl's TOI was 9:55, but every minute he was out there he was noticeable in a bad way.

E is not a top 2 guy, top 4 guy at best.

As good as Howard was tonight we need him to be good in the SO as well. This team learned last year that these SO points are valuable for bubble teams.

Besides Datsyuk, no one can seem to run a PP and no one can win a face-off.

Team has lost a lot of their guys who could score in the SO, Huds, a Brunner, Bert.... Not saying we need then back to win in a SO, as Bert was a boat anchor last year.

This team has so much potential and if we got those 2 missing peices, it would change a lot of games

The thing that stands out the most about this team is the bad passing. No one can pass our receive a pass it seems.

Think that has anything to do with the fact that Babs' preferred lineup if chocked full of guys who play offense like old people f***?

Jimmy had an awesome game.

Smith was out best defenseman (again)

Glendenning was noticeably good

Zetterberg was noticeable off

The Griffin line is going to keep on getting better.

I like where we are right now... now let's get Pavs on the ice!

I'm the biggest fan of Smith, but clearly Danny Dek was the best tonight. He looks like he could be scary good at some point.

*** for tat really. They were both good. Sadly, I don't think Ericsson is even close to 100%. It's becoming cool for everyone to ***** about him again, but for about three years now he hasn't been turning the puck over regularly. Last night he couldn't pass the puck at all. Got to be the finger.

We've gotta start getting more pucks in the net. If we keep struggling in the goal department I could see Mantha called up before January. (Give him some time to heal and get back in shape in the AHL.)

I'm rolling this lineup a few days just to see what happens see if we can spark a few goals.

Z-Pav-Mantha

Goose-Weiss-Franzen

Tatar-Sheahan-Jurco

Callahan-Helm-Abby

If Mantha isn't ready put Tats on the top line, call up Pulks. We could use his shot.

So your argument is that with the game on the line, Babcock chose Nestrasil because he likes him, not that it was based on something he saw in the shoot out drills they do in practice?

Being a dazzling offensive threat has little to do with scoring in the shootout. Jason Williams anyone?

Or on the flipside, I think OV has mediocre shootout stats given he's one of e best goal scores in the league.

Unfortunately though those realities make it difficult to blame Babcock for everything, like signing Cleary, which he has zero authority to do plus Cleary has been a healthy scratch, which is within Babcock's authority.

You're right. It was completely justified. Babs couldn't possibly have made a bad decision there. If he says Nestrasil gives us the best chance to win last night then he does...because Mike said it. Which is why Nestrasil was picked, he scored, and kept the game within reach...oh wait...no he didn't. Not only was it a questionable decision, it was a questionable decision that had a predictably underwhelming result.

Until Nestrasil scores a single NHL point, resting the game on his scoring ability is probably a bad idea. I know I know. Mike Babcock is a heroic, genius, who's hockey knowledge dwarfs all us peons. Nevertheless I can't help but think it's a bad idea to count on scoring from a guy who has literally never, EVER, done it in the NHL...ever.
