VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 I agree, but I'd take it a step further. Weiss needs to play, and play at center. He's not likely to provide much offensive punch playing a position he's never played professionally, in a system he's still learning. Doesn't sound like a recipe for success to me. I thought when we acquired him someone mentioned he's played wing before. At any rate, I'd have to imagine it's easier for a center to play wing than a winger to play center. WingFanInLA 9 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 For everyone's sake, we need to see if he can play in real games. Even if he wanted to be traded, no one would take him right now. And if the Wings don't want to dump him, they best see how well he can perform. But what the hell, I could be wrong, sit his ass!
joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 You never know. Weiss has to be fired up and going to throw it all out there if he gets put in the lineup. The guy is playing for his career. I'd love to see him suit up against Toronto. He can atleast provide what Abby has in the top six. Even when Weiss was hurt last year he was good at board battles and face offs and he appeared to be skating better If Cleary dresses before Weiss I'm going to puke 2 Motown4013 and Rick D reacted to this
number9 3,297 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) Darren Helm missed a year and a half with injuries and wasn't a healthy scratch once he was healthy. There's not to be more to it than this. Yes but you're comparing apples to oranges. A guy who grew under Babocks tutelage and one who is still relatively a newcomer. This could very well be Babcock showing Weiss, that despite his stature, despite his injury, he must earn every second of ice time. GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 I was never a fan of signing another small, left handed forward in his 30's, coming off an injury to boot. He should get more of a shot, only because our current forward crop is garbage.

I prefer Weiss at center as well should he ever crack the lineup again. I could see Babs giving him a shot and that consisting of getting third line minutes on the wing with Helm and Nestrasil or something. The Wings brought him to Detroit to be a second line center. Another pecuilar coaching decision by Babs.
themcityblues 249 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 It's like the Wings signed him for $5 mil and are now actively threatening his NHL career. A guy with a performance record like Weiss and his situation (new team, coming off injury) deserves a shot when he gets healthy. This even makes me emotional. If Weiss isn't out there soon I'm wondering if this staff is morally dignified, let alone if they have any business running a hockey team. Their devising with Weiss makes me think they are bad human beings who suck at running a hockey team. With what they did to Tootoo (sign and dump) and even Samuelsson (sign and dump) I'm nearly tired of being a Wings fan. I'll remain fans of some individual players. I mean I know that sounds stupid but if Weiss is going to be here for the 5 years his got no reason to play it out right now persay because they want him in the lineup in the future but maybe they want to spice things up a bit by throwing nestersil and kindl Edited October 17, 2014 by sjr2012

13dangledangle 965 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 I'm sure he thought after last season he would be on the opening night roster. He didn't get that benefit of the doubt from Babs. That's what lights fires. Not: it wasn't my fault, I was injured. Darren Helm missed a year and a half with injuries and wasn't a healthy scratch once he was healthy. There's not to be more to it than this. Darren Helm had not showed lack lustre performances like Weiss did, Helm has never had to earn back Babs respect...Heck Weiss hasn't even gotten Babs respect yet to lose it 13dangledangle~
kliq 3,755 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 Weiss has been a pure miss for us so far. Sammy, Tootoo, Cleary, Weiss, etc. Holland isn't giving Babs much to work with. I hope Weiss turns it around, but I'm skeptical right now. If you are going to have Cleary on that list, why not have Datsyuk? He was also resigned last year? For whatever reason Babcock does not want to dress him. I think Babcock has done more then enough to justify coaching a hockey team in the NHL and i'm sure their are reasons behind his decisions that we are not aware of. Every decision a GM or a coach makes is based on a number of variables and the public are only privy to a small amount of those. If Weiss deserves to play, i'm sure he will play. I agree I hope its soon, but im sure there is something we are not aware of. 1 sjr2012 reacted to this

frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) Babcock wants players that work hard and play a 200ft game. So far Weiss hasn't done that and Babs told him straightforward what he expects from him. sleepwalker 512 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 Gotta feel kinda bad for the guy. This is like Tootoo all over again. Holland signs him to a decent enough contract, and he has the potential to contribute positively to the team, but for whatever reason Babcock has some sort of beef with him and flat out refuses to play him. This is generous as Tootoo actually played well and earned a spot unlike Weissy. Every now and then there are players who simply don't fit with a coach & his playing style, this could be one of those times...but I truly hope Weiss gets a shot, then makes the damn thing 13dangledangle~
