Guest Praying Mantha Report post Posted October 17, 2014 Give him a chance before you write him off... Babs has to give him a chance first. 1 Euro_Twins reacted to this
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 When did Babcock say he was not happy with the Weiss signing? Remember the comments after the signing ? It was basically he has to be willing and attempt to a new system here. If you aren't working hard you won't like me (Babcock talking about his coaching), the team... Babs loves players, that provide a 200 ft game. We will see if Weiss can do that, once he is getting his chance. For his sake he hope he does, otherwise this contract could turn out really bad. 13dangledangle 958 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 He was indeed suppose to play a hard nose style of hockey, I never said anything let alone "power forward". ...Franzine?! Please he will forever be Franzine around here Give him a chance before you write him off... I'm all about giving him a chance! So far most of this entire thread is about people being confused as to why babs isn't giving Weiss a chance. As to writing him off, not to say he wrote him self off completely last season but he certainly knocked himself back a little with 4 points in 26 games. So when you originally said "Babs wasn't too thrilled with the signing" what you meant was "Babs wants Weiss to work hard, learn the system, and play responsible defense or else he won't play"? Because those aren't the same thing...at all. Not even the tiniest little bit. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this

"We're looking for a guy to generate more in the middle," coach Mike Babcock said after watching Tuesday's informal skate (coaches can't go on the ice until next week's camp). "Can Weiss generate 50 points playing in the middle on our second line? I'm going to watch and see. We think he's going to be a way better player here." Man he really had it out for him since the beginning... \Sarcasm 2 kipwinger and krsmith17 reacted to this

gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) Okay, so he's practicing in white today, indicating that he might play tomorrow (or maybe it's just because Abdelkader took a rest day) : http://kuklaskorner.com/tmr/comments/practice-post-red-wings-prepare-for-maple-leafs Also, I found something from Weiss on the situation: http://www.themorningsun.com/sports/20141015/weiss-knew-job-wouldnt-be-handed-to-him “I did my best throughout the preseason to do what I could to get in the lineup and it wasn’t good enough,” Weiss said. “But it’s a long season. I’ve just got to keep working hard and keep trying to get better and when I get my chance to go I’ve got to be ready to go. I’m hungry to get back in the lineup,” Weiss continued. “It’s always a surprise and a shock when you’re not playing. It wasn’t just going to be handed to me on a silver platter.” I actually like what he says and it doesn't seem to be anything other than a hockey issue from that article. Glad he's got the right attitude about it, at least when he's facing the press. It's no easy task to face that question square on and be humble and positive. He deserves more credit for that then he'll likely get. Edited October 17, 2014 by gcom007 2 rooter2309 and PavelValerievichDatsyuk reacted to this

Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted October 17, 2014 Ok.....Maybe I'm going out on a limb here.....Maybe - just maybe - Holland has issues signing UFA's because those that we've signed these past few seasons were given the 'cold shoulder' (Commodore - Tootoo - Weiss). I'm not some conspiracy type, but it leaves me scratching my head as to why a guy who was signed to play on the 2nd line is now a healthy scratch, but then again - unlike Babs - I do not possess a degree in psychology. Still makes sense. Kenny didn't want XO (Babs guy on the opening roster). Babs respond with benching Weiss, Kenny's (guy) signature.

That, or UFA's are a complete waste of money. It's better to build through the draft.

I think it would be a real disappointment and quite telling if Weiss is passed over for Dan Cleary instead.

RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted October 18, 2014 (edited) Wonder if this is a passive aggressive Babs power struggle with Holland. It certainly makes Holland look bad that a player he signed for that much is riding the pine. Edit ... if he is healthy scratch, he's not even riding the pine, he's in a suit up in the box. Potential to be 34 mil blundered away by KH.
