They do. No way do they make this move. Unless Thornton is a real problem in the locker room and needs to get shipped out ASAP and this is the very best they can do.

How many great years does Thornton realistically have in him though? Phaneufs got much more

I'd argue phaneuf doesn't have any great years left.

He had one.

Hasn't has one since.

I'm probably biased, but I just don't like him.

Really? He had a down year last year (still scored 30 pts), but other than that he's always been pretty darn good. He's big, nasty, and produces in the O-zone. I think he'd be a major asset on any team in this league. He'd easily become the number 1 D-man in SJ right away IMO. Vlasic is smart in the D-zone, but wayyyy less physical and produces a whole lot less in the O-zone.

So I just don't like him then.

Ha.

I haven't watched enough of him to say the things Ive seen that I dislike about him are constant or even consistent things, but every physical play I've seen from him is either dirty or puts him out of position.

But sj does need a shakeup, I just don't think trading jumbo is smart, smarter than trading couture, burns, or hertl.

But he's big skilled and physical, and even though he's older, I wouldn't give up his playmakin abilities for a few extra years.

Fairness of the deal aside, has Eklund ever been right about anything since the Philly activity? He got Richards to LA, correct? I'm legitimately asking.

Around the trade deadline, for the two week span he's spitting out massive amounts of rumors, I think he winds up being correct one out of every two hundred times. I'd call his success rate in actually predicting something to happen at about a 0.5% range.

I feel firmly that he's a speculator, not a reporter and his sources are scenarios he thinks up that would somewhat make sense. In this case, I could see Thornton for Phaneuf, because in some aspects it does make sense. Was there an actual source to this rumor? No, I think it's just something else he thought up and posted because it draws readers.
