Can't win em all boys. Teams played great. Howard played great. Still unbeaten in regulation. Let's regroup for the next bout.

Are you pretending the Anaheim game didn't happen? Or that the officials actually called that penalty on Getzlaf at the end?

Well, when you only score one or two goals a game this is what you get. I think they've looked decent so far this year, but they have GOT to start scoring more. Then we won't have to worry about bulls*** waving off of goals or uncalled penalties or what the f*** ever.

I agree. This team needs to score more goals. I think our defense is fine.

need to work on the power play. they had how many PP? 4-5? any scoring chances on those? i dont recall one.

couldve won the game in the first period

We need a legit right handed shot, teams just over play us because we have 5 lefties on the ice all the time, its not rocket science. That being said options are limited, Alfie or a trade. Another great effort tonight, game should have never got to OT. This team is fun to watch. Jimmy looks solid, playing his angles so much better this year.

People can blame this on the refs all they want, but the fact of the matter is this team is having a hell of a hard time scoring. Sure we would all have liked for Datsyuks goal to count, but we had multiple PP opportunities to score and nothing came from it.

Scoring one or two goals a game wont cut it in the NHL

Agree on both points. 1-2 goals a game isn't going to win a lot of games.

I have been saying for several years, the Wings must score 30% more goals than any other team in order to win a game, since so many of their perfectly good goals are disallowed... and the refs make sure the ice tilts in the direction of whatever team the Wings are playing.

Must find offense, somehow. Jimmy was spectacular tonight... D was adequate. Wings must become over-achievers and soon, if they expect to succeed.

Actually it will and has been working. If the refs didn't steal this game then it would have worked again. Fact of the matter is the defense shut down one of the best offenses in the league and the refs stole the game. Defense and goal tending can take get you a cup.

Exactly. If your strategy is to win every game by a single goal, then you don't have a large margin of error. There was a time when if we were down by a goal going into the third period, you could almost bank on us getting it back. Not anymore. Nowadays we can't protect a lead going into the third unless every single thing turns out perfectly in our favor because that's the only goal we're getting that night.

Get some offense in the lineup or get used to bitching about the refs ALL SEASON LONG. Because there's going to be a lot of bad calls that cost us games if every game is this close.

Also, since when did our fan base because so full of complainers? We're not the only team that will lose a game because of a bad call this week. Let alone this season. You don't see good teams getting all bent out of shape because of a disallowed goal, or a questionable call.

least alfie could put one in the net. we should have won but the refs boned us once again. we need to score more consistently. E has been our worst defender, kindl has even outplayed him. i think E will get over it though, or at least i hope he does. howard has been great. hopefully when mule comes back he is still hot. nesty probably shouldnt be playing everyday. kid line has been in a slump, they should start potting them soon.

Rant Over.

I am on the boarder with Tatar being tradeable. He has potential but I just dont see him having the finishing touch necessary to be a top 6 guy.

I still think he will turn out to be a good top 6 winger, I just think it will take him another season or two to really cement himself as a legit NHL winger. I think trading him would be a bad idea.

But I agree about his inability to finish these first few games. He's been trying to make too many moves and it seems like he shoots when he should pass and dekes when he should shoot. The season is young, luckily. He'll find his game.

And what will be the backup plan if we can't contain a teams offense? The offense can't finish, and the PP has had issues for years now. As others have said our margin for error is small now because we can't backup out defense with a potent offense.

Our defense has been fine. We shouldn't be losing games where we give up 1 goal in regulation. Adding an offensive dman should help with some scoring but this team has need a legit winger for a long time as well. We're not going to get many more points from games we score 1 goal in

I agree with your point, but disagree with your premise. Our defense isn't fine, and that's partially why our offense isn't fine. Our transition game isf****** terrible. The defensemen can't get the puck up to the forwards consistently, so we never attack the offensive zone with speed (supposedly the big advantage our current team has).

They've been fine defensively, but in today's game that's not enough. You need offense from the back end.

But I'd love a scoring winger. And to get rid of some of these centers. And to get dopes like Abby off the top six forever. And a GM that would overpay on players that deserve it once in a while. And a coach who didn't act like scoring goals is only an incidental part of the sport of hockey. Those would all be nice too.
