Fair enough, but my point's still the same. Regardless of whether he was advocating more scoring (as he was), or less puck possession (as you originally thought he was), I still don't think it's cool to respond the way you did because it makes it seem like he had chosen (from a wide variety of possible alternatives) the one "that never wins cups". Which he didn't do at all. In short, it trivializes his position before he can even give his position. Which sucks for him, but also for you because your posts are typically better than that. You could have had an interesting conversation on it rather than a derailment. And isn't interesting conversation the whole reason we're here?

That brings me to a good point I believe in. If you're not in the puck possession game, you're not In the game. Good teams control the puck. Our coach advocates that, that's why I like him. And that's why I jump in those who disagree, not saying u can't thou

Ok I think you're hearing me incorrectly. I translate soccer game to "puck possession game" bc that's what soccer and we do. So when someone says our soccer game isn't working, I hear puck possession game is not working for us. Which as u know by now I disagree with

In your OP (that I responded to) u didn't mention GF at all...

This isn't hard, don't let kip fight ur battles for u

There are no pucks in soccer. They use balls. Are you suggesting soccer switch to pucks and have a totally worthless sport to watch?

We have 12 goals in 6 games. If that's called puck possession, I want something different. Massive Goal Scoring Possession and Presidents Trophies Possession would be better.

We'll I'll agree that our coach advocates it. But we don't have the personnel to control the puck. By my count we had about four forwards, and two defensemen skilled enough to regularly control play and dominate possession tonight. Part of that is on Holland's head for not acquiring good possession players (as an example, look how good Radim Vrbata is playing in Vancouver). Part of it is on Bab's head for playing guys like Andersson, Glendening, Nestrasil, Abby, etc. the way that he does. Those guys aren't great possession guys because they're not big enough, skilled enough, fast enough, etc. to maintain control of the puck for long. Babs' idea of puck possession (at this point) seems to be "track down the puck as often as you lose it". But you can't get around the fact that you lose the puck an awful lot when you play guys with no hands as often as he does.

Just illustrating what you did to me. Because I want more offense does not mean I want the kind of loose defense that keeps us from making the playoffs. I don't need anyone to argue for me. Especially you!!

I thought all goals were supposed to be reviewed now or something? What a stupid ******* call.

Obviously we let off the gas in the 3rd and just went into defensive mode, which is getting old. And when are we going to realize that Abdelkader is not exactly an offensive dynamo? Either way I'm enjoying how the team is playing this year, and now feel like we've been robbed a couple games, but oh well.

Okay we need more scoring

Nyquist-Zetterberg-Franzen (money)

Abby-Datayuk-Tatar (most likely money)

Jurco-Sheahan-Helm

Andersson-Glendening-Miller

If you really want to generate scoring we need to have Mantha up as soon as he can physically play.

Nyquist - Zetterberg - Franzen

Pulkkinen - Datsyuk - Mantha

Tatar - Sheahan - Jurco

Abby - Helm - Glendening

Andersson Miller

Kronwall - Smith

Dekeyser - Ouellet

Quincey - Ericsson

Lashoff

This team could easily win pond-hockey run and gun style. Its so stressful to watch games and know that we only have 1 or 2 goals in us and if we get scored on once it pretty much spells a loss for us. I wish we could be down 3-0 and still feel like we have a shot to get points out of it.

jimmys been stellar whys everyone up his ass all the time?

We hate him cause he sucks and he sucks because we hate him!

I'm a big Howard fan and have been saying for awhile that the defense and goaltending is the least of our issues. Even with their boneheaded mistakes a top 6 winger woukd solve a lot of issues.

The Wings could have the spawn of Terry Sawchuk and Dominik Hasek in net and there would be those wings fans that would complain that they are terrible. Its called "next goalie up'itis" and it has plagued Wings fans for years despite 4 Stanley Cups. There is no known cure....

I think it's become clear that defense is no longer a problem for us. Offense is. For all their talent or players, except for two or three, can't score without a lucky bounce or turnover. I blame Babcock for trying to turn us into the late 2000 Wild. Defense is great but without offense you can't win. We need a better balance. A team can't win the Cup scoring two goals a game. I mean, come on, so far every team we played had stellar defense. I find that hard to believe. Our offense makes goalies and defensemen look great.

I am just not sure I get the complaining and whining about style of play.

Would it be great to win 5-1 every night? Yes, but what team is doing that? Generally if you score more goals you are going to give up more goals.

Our style is fine, lets be honest we won the game last night in regulation, so the style of play was not the problem.

Honestly our strategy of play solid defensive puck possession hockey is just fine

Because here is the plan:

1. Get a goal or 2 at even strength

2. lock the other team down(we have been doing that)

3. Get opportunities for the power play and take advantage

The only problem we have right now is #3. If the power play gets any kind of pulse we will be a very solid team. Last night we had a goal taken away from us, and our power play was abysmal.. fix the power play and these close games aren't as close anymore

I like being stingy defensively but we are barely averaging 2 goals a game. That's not winning hockey. I think it's a matter of getting the right line combos but alas we'll have to get shut out/beaten miserably for babs to make a change. Still waiting for those defensive pairing change to stick for longer then a period. The most frustrating part is it's the lines/pairings the fans have been screaming for and we finally get them, see instant success and they get changed

Thought they played great last night and that's my takeaway from the game. The Pav goal was a thing of beauty and the OT loss is a stinker, but hopefully they are professional and realize it was a good test, and bounce back tomorrow against the Pens.

No we didn't win anything. Hypothetically we would have won if there were no such thing as bad calls. Which there are. If a team finds themselves saying "we'd have won if not for that call" too often then they're doing something wrong. So far, this season, it's happened twice in five games. Bad calls aren't going anywhere. They'll be around as long as there are sports. Good teams don't live and die by bad calls. Teams that are barely scraping by do though.

If we continue to play soccer, every bad call will affect us. If we are up 6-2 or down 7-1, who cares if a ref blows a call. We don't have an elite goaltender. We have a good goaltender, but not an elite one. You have to have an elite goaltender if you wanna play soccer.
