In there.

Maybe stick with Bieber's lyrics. ;)

Haha. You're right. Didn't know people in Australia knew Bieber as well.

All the more reason to stay away from UFA's.

I hope Kenny doesn't feel that way. We just need a GM who can actually make good moves.

Well with Australians having favorite singers like Cody Simpson then it's not a stretch to think they would also love J-Bieb. =)

Ok, what is the real deal here? Seems like every Wings newsfeed I'm reading is reporting something different about Weiss' situation....so he is going on IR or coming up here to play??

According to this he is returning to Detroit to get his groin reevaluated, and they will go from there.

You going to call Holland and let him know because he keeps trying to sign UFA's?

What if Weiss retires? Was damaged goods when he signed? What are the long term cap repercussions, anyone know?

I'm not the cap-specialist on LGW, although I know there are a few of them here somewhere.

Really easy to say that two years forward but I remember when we signed him everyone was freaking out. Made a lot of sense at the time, even the most pessimistic people couldn't have called the situation...

If anything it's a sign that Holland should not sign a free agent center or trade for one. Babcock likes all of his centremen homegrown (Datsyuk Zetterberg Helm Filppula Glendening Sheahan... all came from within the organization) and clearly favours them. It's not just Weiss that got screwed over, you're forgetting that Legwand came in on pace for almost 60 points and finished the season on the fourth line. He was a pretty big part of our playoff push when all of our other centers were injured (yeah yeah kid line I get it they were more important, Nyquist lit it up but also because he played with Legwand). It's probably because Babcock's system has a heavy emphasis on the center and it isn't for everyone. Tough to argue against the results but it's too bad there's so much money being wasted. Glad we have an organization that can afford these kinds of things.

You can't build a championship contender exclusively on draft picks when you are selecting in the 20's every year. The Wings do draft very well and were fortunate Zetterberg and Datsyuk became superstars, but impact players are hard to come by that late in the draft.

Draft well and make smart free agency decisions to complement your internal pieces. Holland has the first part down well and has failed miserably with the latter. He has either spent money poorly on UFA's or struck out in areas of need.

If he retires it comes off the books, but I don't see him walking away from that much money.

No it doesn't. With the new CBA we still have to

Pay him I thought? The kovachulk rule?

can we get Filppula back?

I would rather just have the available money to pursue a goal-scoring winger instead than either Weiss or Filppula. The Wings are pretty set up the middle depth wise, thanks to Sheahan and Glendening emerging.

Now we have to either hope Weiss miraculously gets healthy and figures it out, Alfie's back heals or Mantha is the real deal right away.

If I understand the rules correctly, players under 35 that retire don't impact the cap (and don't collect any more money). The reason players over 35 have cap ramifications is to prevent a team from signing an old player to a stupid long contract that is heavily front loaded to minimize the cap hit short term and give the player a huge short term payday.

Ya the kovachulk rule. I didn't know it was only 35+ my bad,
