krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted November 14, 2014 Lol I'll be watching the Griffins game live and then watch the PVR'd Wings game after and see them squeak out at hard fought, come from behind victory. Going to be a good night.

nyqvististhefuture 1,002 Report post Posted November 15, 2014 Watching wings and got the griffins on as well , didn't notice mantha much ... It's understandable Sind she hasn't played in a long time .... Pulkkinen just got the winning goal as well as 2 assists , I know his defensive game isn't the best but I think we should consider calling him up to play top 6 and send jurco down a few games
Richdg 267 Report post Posted November 15, 2014 Game 1. No he didn't score. He did stand up to the Stars a couple of times-he will drop the gloves if/when needed. But this is fine. All we want is for him to play and get used to pro hockey. Let's see how he is doing in about 20 games. I listened to the game on the way home from work. They did have him on the point of the PP. Not sure that is the best way to use him....

When he get’s settled in I’m thinking him+Sproul+Pulkinen on the same unit are going to give goalies fits on the PP. 2 krsmith17 and TheXym reacted to this
Richdg 267 Report post Posted November 15, 2014 That’s how Val-d’Or used him. For the left handed one-timer on the right side. He’s got a bullet. When he get’s settled in I’m thinking him+Sproul+Pulkinen on the same unit are going to give goalies fits on the PP. I know he has a great shot. But so do others. He is a F, move him closer to the net in a shooting position. Offensively he is like Shanny. A big strong kid with a great shot. Get him in a good shooting position and feed him the puck. Put Oullett and Sproul on the BL, with Mantha and Pulk as shooters then Callahan or bigger in front of the net. That should be lethal. But then again, it is only game 1 and he has to prove himself. Which he will in time.
Guest DeGraa55 Report post Posted November 15, 2014 Ya I think the great thing is in his first and he was seeing PP time!!! And yes having him pulk and sproul out there together is lethal. They all have great shots.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted November 15, 2014 Apparently Mantha hit the post twice in his first game. Its not a goal, but its a promising sign for sure. http://www.mlive.com/griffins/index.ssf/2014/11/anthony_manthas_first_game_as.html
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted November 15, 2014 I'm not sure if those of you that commented on the game actually watched the game or not but Mantha played great. It was his first game of pro hockey, no one was expecting him to have a 3 or 4 point night like he did regularly in junior. Every time he touched the puck he made things happen, he was dominant, despite not making it on the score sheet and registering only one shot on goal. The thing that impresses me the most is his size, and the fact that he uses that size to his advantage. He was a huge player in junior, but he was a boy amongst men down there, and he seemed reluctant to make those big hits. He sure wasn't last night, he laid a few great hits. There were a couple times when he had the puck, skating along the boards and he man-handled the opposition. There were two instances that I remember, in which he was double teamed by the Stars defenders in the offensive zone and he easily came away with the puck, he was winning every puck battle. Although he only registered the one shot, he did ring one off the post in the third, and it was sitting there in the crease but Pulkkinen couldn't get a stick on it to bury the rebound. He was on the ice for a goal for and a goal against but finished with a -1 because both goals came on the Griffins power-play. The Stars, Travis Morin scored a short-handed goal in the first, which actually came off a bad giveaway by Mantha, it was on his very first shift of the game, imagine the nerves he was feeling, but after that one giveaway he played unbelievable. He had the *third assist* on the Griffins first goal that came on the power-play to start the second period. All in all I was very impressed with his pro debut, and he is going to be a great player. 2 martinezsvsu and 13dangledangle reacted to this

I agree. I only saw the 3rd period/OT, but he did not look like someone who was just coming off an injury or playing in his first pro game - to me he looked like he was driving the play, hard forechecking, and very dangerous offensively. And he will only get better. Very encouraging first game. 3 krsmith17, T.Low and marcaractac reacted to this
TheXym 2,606 Report post Posted November 15, 2014 I'm grateful for the intel on Mantha. From what I'm reading, once he get acclimated, he may very well end up in beast mode in a big way.
