Mantha getting closer.

I nearly forgot about Anthanasiou. I can see our future #1 line:

Mantha - Larkin - Anthanasiou

Why would Babcock want to leave this organization with all this talent in the minors? Especially for...bleh....Toronto.

...and we know who to call on if both goalies go down in a game.

I have been to a few Griffins games and Mantha has been solid. It hasn't equated to scoring like everyone wanted to see. What he is turning in is a solid two way effort. You can tell from how hard he is skating is that the points are going to come in time. He missed all of training camp due to that injury, and it just made sense that he was going to struggle out of the gate.

No way will Babcock coach this team if he has to learn to pronounce "Anthanasiou." He still has nightmares about Fill-a-poo-la.

I know he's American, but even Abdelkader is a weird name. Can't wait till Callahan is a regular. That's a name Babs and I can get behind

I've heard this, his ancestors are Armenian if I'm remembering things right?

The article I read says his grandpa was from Jordan. A buddy of mine who went to high school with him told me he's Lebanese. I don't know for sure, but it's still a cool story behind a unique name. Edited by Echolalia

I love hockey players (as we all do), and believe there are such things as good hockey names.

Ryan Callahan - solid red-blooded american hockey name

Vladimir Konstantinov - bad ass russian hockey name

Guy Lafleur - beautiful french-canadian hockey name

Justin Abdelkader - is the same sound I make when I vomit (don't get me wrong,I love the guy)

IDK I'm probably just weird.

Anyone else remember those wonderful Guy LaFleur ads with Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas? Still makes me laugh.

I think the glory of the name usually follows the glory of the individual after a successful career. If Konstantinov was a soft lanky defensman who only played 10 games in the NHL, our heart-rates probably wouldn't rise today when we hear his name. Similarly, if Abdelkader had a career of taking down NHL heavyweights with one punch, and scoring goals, and wreaking havoc in the playoffs, I think his name would mean something quite different than it does to us now.

you're 100% right. I think it's just the good ol days that sparks me. Back in the day there were no Abdelkaders, It was all Lapointes and Gallants, just bacase the market was limited to only certain players. Then the dang wings had to go and be the best and recruit globally :)
