Ugh I hate all these loser points but they help. We took 5 penalties and turned the puck over a lot but still managed to get a point out of it. Just frustrating because Tampa played the night before

True BUT we did get outplayed for most if

Not the entire game and still

Managed to get a point! So there is positives fom the negatives.

Can you imagine if Draper was given this opportunity? Same player just different color hair. The answer is Jurco and Mantha
A guy who should be in the AHL and a guy who has yet to play a professional game are the answer... interesting.

Good to see us battle back from a deficit and pick up a point.

Good to see the scoring on the power-play continuing.

Good play in the OT frame, even though we couldn't get anything past that REAL MONSTER, Bishop. (gd that guy is huge)

Bad shootout.

Bad shootout.

Bad shootout.

Who do we have in our pressbox? Hammer hands Draper?

I will say, though, that Danny Cleary scored 50 goals in juniors. It's worth giving him a shot.

Man I remember ol drapes go to shot. He would be on a breakaway and instead of going in and deking the goalie he would shot it right at the blue line...use to make me so mad. When playing the nhl games that use to be the big joke when controlling him. I would always shot it from the blueline with him.

Wow are we real bad at shoot outs or are we real bad at shoot outs?! Do these guys not practice this at all? For having a line up with:

Datsyuk

Franzen

Zetterberg

Nyquist

Tatar

Jurco (maybe if you tell him it's for YouTube;)

And even...

Sheahan

Kronwall

Smith should be able to win some shoot outs.

Interestingly, Babcock said post-game that rookie video coach Andrew Brewer tells him who to pick for the shootout

The art of throwing someone under the bus.

honestly, i wouldn't have chosen Helm, but we don't have anyone who is good at shootouts. Helm scored once or twice last year in the shootout - I don't think it was the most horrendously bad choice that people are making it out to be.

Babcock regarding the shootouts... "Obviously, that's something I don't spend a whole lot of time on." No s***!... "That's why I got this great video guy named Andrew Brewer. He does all that work and comes out and tells me who to shoot"... So much for blaming it all on Babcock...

We are 0-3 in the shootout after last nights loss. We have scored 1 goal (Nyquist) on 8 opportunities, and the opposition has scored 5 goals on 7 opportunities. Both, the shooters and the goalie (Howard) definitely need to be better in that area and our coaching staff really needs to address it this week while they have 4 days off. We would be tied for 1st in the East with 22 points if we had won three of those shootouts... We cannot be throwing away these points.

Let's hope they can turn their shootout woes around, like they did their power-play. They have gotten two power-play goals in each of their past three games, going 6 for 13 (46.2%). In the first 12 games of the season they had gone 5 for 46 (10.9%). They now sit at a respectable 18.6% and I expect that number to rise even more as the season goes on.

Agreed. Without Datsyuk the best choices seem like Tatar, Nyquist, then it's anyones guess. With the game on the line I'd want Z out there because he's so clutch in general, but his conversion rate in the shootout isn't great either.

For those saying Franzen, they rarely call on Mule for the shootout. I don't know if it's because he doesn't want to do it or just isn't good at it but he's rarely picked.

Who's fault was it when we were equally bad at shootouts a year ago? Babs is the head coach. Final responsibility falls on him, regardless of whether shootouts aren't "something he spends a whole lot of time on".

Also, after leaving about 2,000 points on the table as a result of lost shootouts over the last two years, it might behoove Uncle Mike to be a little less cavalier about his disinterest in that part of the game. Seven points separated us from playing Tampa instead of Boston last year in the playoffs. We lost 9 shootouts (and a bunch of overtimes). I'd have been thrilled to play a Bishop-less Tampa while Montreal and Boston beat the hell out of each other for 7 games. Whether the purists like it or not, shootouts matter.

I remember this as well. And it'd be worth a shot at this point, we can't do any worse.

I knew I wasn't crazy. But I cannot remember where the hell I read that.

Babs is taking a personal day today according to Malik. Granato is leading practice. Perhaps that explains it lol.

It might also behoove the GM to get his head coach and coaching staff, despite his own disinterest in the shootout and his encouragement of the league to move to a 3-on-3 OT session, to get it together... as it is still a part of the game.

Absolutely to the second part. We shoot ourselves the foot when it comes to the standings by leaving these freaking points on the table.

JESUS that's pathetic.

Well it would certainly help if the GM got some skilled players rather than stocking his entire team with two way forwards without much offensive talent. But it's not his job to coach the team. Anything happens in the 60 minutes between the opening faceoff and the final horn is on Babcock.

If our penalty kill was struggling and Babs said "obviously, that's something I don't spend a whole lot of time on. That's why I got this great video guy named Andrew Brewer. He does all that work and comes out and tells me who to use", people would justifiably lose their minds. This is no different.

If he's going to use a system meant to grind out low scoring games, as he's often stated, then he should probably take more of an interest in the shootout, considering his system increases the likelihood that he'll end up in one.

Holland's responsible for the roster. Babcock for what happens on the ice.

Kip, your innate desire to bash Babcock every chance you get is a little tiresome. I get that you're not fond of the guy and you think he is overrated but c'mon, the assistant coaches are there to do specific jobs. He has Granato on the penalty kill, Hiller on the power-play, and Brewer as video coach helping choose who goes in the shootouts (among other things I'm sure). Yes, Babcock has the final say in who shoots for us, just as I'm sure he has the final say in who is on each power-play and penalty kill unit, but these guys deserve some of the credit (whether positive or negative) as well. I didn't say that none of the onus falls on Babcock, I simply said "So much for blaming it all on Babcock"...

I agree that much more time needs to be spent on the power-play and as frank pointed out, they are spending time on that in practice today. Just like you said, "final responsibility falls on him", so I'm sure if Babcock isn't at practice today, he told the assistant coaches to spend time practicing for shootouts...

Dude, the comment about Granato running practice and therefore focusing on the shootout was a joke.

I'm actually not "bashing" Babs on this one. I feel like it's pretty straight forward. His team is losing valuable points. He needs to fix it. It's his responsibility. I find it troubling that the guy can say "Obviously, that's something I don't spend a whole lot of time on" about a part of the game that's costing him points. I'm not really sure how I'm bashing him by expecting him to address something that was a HUGE problem a year ago before it was Brewer's job.
