#BREAKINGNEWS Just received confirmation from very trustworthy source that the #RedWings offer on the table is Tatar for Myers. #Sabres.

This tweet is from a guy that goes by hockeyinsiderr....take it for what it's worth.

I wish I could cut and paste like that!

Tatar for Yandle maybe, but not for a guy with 8 points on the season. No thanks. For the life of me I don't know what people's obsession with Tyler Myers is.

Honestly, I'd target Green at the deadline. If we can't get him for reasonably cheap, then make due with what we have and sign Green in the offseason without losing anything other than money. If we could move Green and Ouellet in, and dump Smith and Kindl I'd be thrilled our puck moving ability would dramatically improve WITHOUT losing anything as serious as Tatar.

Kronwall-Ericsson

Quellet-Dekeyser

Green-Quincey

Now that's a defense corps I could get behind. Then, after next year, start thinking about transitioning some of Marchenko, Sproul, and Jensen into the sixth and seventh spots.

That being said we probably do need to trade a forward within a season or two if we want there to be room for Mantha and Pulkkinen but I don't think it should be Tatar.

Agreed. If we've got Pulks, Jurco, Mantha, Z, Franzen, Tats, Nyquist as wingers, One of those guys is forced to play on the 4th line. Not to mention Abby and Weiss possibly playing wing.

It's a position of strength that we should trade from to help out the defence. The question is who should it be. Now, everyone, don't scream Franzen all at once.

Why would you trade Smith without bringing a significant asset back?

Because he's a bonehead who's developing at a snails pace, and is currently a less productive "offensive defenseman" than Kindl...who is universally considered terrible. So his value isn't what people think it is. Everybody talks about his "potential" all the time, but unlike Tyler Myers (whom I also don't think is very good), Smith has never once shown he's capable of producing in the NHL...even for a brief period.

And because we've got better players in GR eager to fill that spot.

I'd trade him for Mike Green right now. Which is what I did in my proposed scenario above.

DISCLAIMER: I REALLY don't want to turn this into a Smith debate though. I only brought it up because you asked. Everybody knows how I feel about him, and I know how everybody else does, so we can all leave it alone. My real point was to suggest that we can improve our puck movers pretty significantly without losing a guy like Tatar in the process.

Everybody goes ape over really big guys. Doesn't matter if they're good or not as long as they're big. Ryane Clowe's contract? Brendan Dillon for Jason Demers trade? Tyler Myers for Tatar speculation? What's the common denominator? Hugeness.

Personally I think a trade to change the dynamics, culture of this team is needed. Maybe some players are to complacent because there has to be some sort of explanation for all that inconsistency. Buffalo needs offensive help and Detroit needs defensive help, moving Myers also helps Buffalo with their tank and yet those two teams can't come to an agreement it's just sad.

Is Myers a great defender currently ? No, but who knows what that big hulking boy could turn into under Babcock's watch at least he can't be worse than Lashoff, Kindl, Ericsson. Also keep in mind Chicago will be in caphell next year and Seabrook is going into the last year of his contract, that might be a nice option too.

Same reason everyone thinks Ericsson is a half decent defenseman. He's tall so he's good. Myers is tall so he's good. Clearly.

Alright. I’ve avoided wild trade proposals but I’m bored.

Trade: Tatar + Helm + Smith and a 1st for Vermette and Yandle.

We would see it as overpayment but it’s actually fair. Arizona might not even take it.

Anyway, the team would be left with all of their prospects in-stable, and alleviate the log-jam at forward. Plus they get back what they lose in two-way play and get a legit 2nd line centre in Vermette who they would have no trouble re-signing. Yandle comes as advertised. Arizona gets good young players and a high pick back, which is what they want.

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Abdlekader

Weiss - Vermette - Nyquist

Franzen - Sheahan - Jurco

Miller - Glendenning - Andersson

Cleary

Kronwall -Ericsson

DeKeyser - Yandle

Quincey - Ouellet

Kindl

Not bad I guess. Even it ended up being a lateral move, it’s still a shake-up. And Holland would remind his underachieving players and the rest of the league that he still knows how to make a trade.

Never happen. I probably just wasted 10 minutes here.

The value of that trade is probably about right, but I still don't do it. I'd trade Nyquist before I'd trade Tatar. Tatar is harder to play against and spreads his scoring out over the long haul. Zombo's roster above is softer than the one we've already got. They'd get pushed to the perimeter and rendered completely ineffective in the playoffs. I love Yandle, and I'm fine with Vermette, but not for Tatar and Helm. They're two of the very few players on this team that can score in the crease areas.

Nyquist will not be traded because he is Swedish. But Kip, I do agree, I like Tatar better than Nyquist and would choose to trade him first. I'd rather not trade either of them, especially for the RH'd version of Ericsson. But maybe Pulkkinen will get his call up and maybe he will out perform Tatar. It just stinks that our D cannot get it together enough to avoid a major trade like this (rumor.) I know I was all over the (non)trade for Perron, but it would not have hurt as much as losing Tatar. He should be one of the untouchable's IMO. Hopefully this is only rumor and Holland just stands fast until one or two of his RH'd kids come up next year (marchenko or Jensen, both out of expemtions.)
