Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Of my desireables... Yandle>>>Franson>Green>>Meyers

I tend to agree....

Myers is NOT worth anything close to what we would have to give up in order to get him. I don't see it from that kid at all.

Green = possible rental. I also see WSH may be looking to keep him around. A 2nd/3rd + mid D prospect would seem to be the only way it is worth it for us. This also seems possible considering the trades we've seen for defencemen lately.

Franson = Due for a big payday next summer (which we can afford for now) so he could possibly be a rental as well. We have to think that nyquist and tatar are getting paydays in a few years so we have to worry about adding cap.

Yandle is my favorite for what we would have to give up in a trade, but yes he is left handed. If we were to make a trade with phoenix Arizona, I'd like to see OEL but thats likely to be a steeper price for sure. Personally, I'd like to see Vermette here, but he only really fits into Helm's line and I'd rather keep helm.

You all are way too sensitive and looking too hard for a reason to jump on someone...

....The Cristal Flute has spoken.... Cristal is Champagne and a Flute is a Champagne glass...the sarcasm in that entire post is the alcohol is talking...Cristal Flute is a play on Crystal Ball....no? Yes? I am sad I needed to explain that to you guys. But just keep trying to knock on someone. That's always fun too.

You're right. How dumb we are for not figuring out that Cristal Flute = Champagne Glass = The Alcohol is talking = I don't really mean what I'm saying. Apparently when it comes to conspicuous ways of relaying your thoughts, you're the master.

And a separate apology for not being able to discern between this fake trade proposal, and all the other "real" times you've advocated trading Kindl and Quincey for guys much better than they are.

WingsallTheway, Yandle is your "favorite for what we would have to give up in a trade"? What exactly do you think it would take to get Yandle? Because I think he would be the most expensive out of any of the possibly available defensemen...

5 million for a guy that'll put up 50 pts. from the back end this year? Yep. I don't care about his supposed defensive lapses. I view it the same way I did the Wisniewski contract. 50 pts. defensemen don't grow on trees, and certainly don't come along too often at the prime of their careers.

Franson's having a great year point-wise (29 in 49 games), but the most he's managed in any previous season is 33pts. I'm not really ready to bank him for an automatic 50 pts. I would go up to 5 mill for him, though. With E at Q at 4.25 it would fit into the team pay grades, I'd say. Also, I think we were prepared to pay Niskanen's 5.75 and he had similar stats. (he has 17 pts this year - Good that we didn't land him)

Side note: I just saw that the Leafs originally got Franson with Matthew Lambardi for Brett Lebda and Robert Slaney. Slaney never play in the NHL and Lebda played 30 games before being banished to the minors. That's a hell of a trade for The Leafs.

He had 29 pts. in 45 games in 2013 before taking a step back a year ago. His production this year is putting him right back on that same track. If I'm betting, I'd say last years' regression was the exception, and the 25-30 pts. in 40-45 games is the rule. Especially on a more offensively capable team like ours. But that's me. I agree though, always a risk. But very few defensemen luck their way into 50 pts, especially on a bad team. Given his age, past performances, and current production (for a bad team), my guess is he's more James Wisniewski than Matt Niskanen.

Given the caps position they probably want players that can help them now, not picks and prospects. We'd probably have to part ways with a roster player to get him (and then some depending on the player).

Wasn't he also drafted by NSH? They have an eye for good blueliners

I agree, he would cost the most.

The others just really aren't that good for what GM's likely want back (especially Myers).

If Yandle were right handed, then I would 100% say Holland should go for him, but even still at the cost I'd probably prefer to just not make a trade. I guess I should have stated in my previous post that Yandle is my favorite of the 4; although I don't necessarily think any of them are worth it.

It sucks that we need a right handed D so badly because it could likely cause Holland to overpay for a possible rental such as Franson/Green.

The point with Yandle being my favorite of the four is that we have the assurance that he will actually play here after next season. Giving up a bit more in terms of trade value for that assurance can wind up being better then giving up less now for a rental

Dickie, are you serious? Franson isn't that good? Not good enough to warrant a 2nd round pick? Give me a break... Have you watched Franson play? He is a great 2/3 defenseman, and is EXACTLY the type of defenseman this team needs.

Give up the 2nd, I'd even throw in another conditional if he signs after this season.

Oooo.

Let's not call him a. 2/3 yet.

He's on the leafs.

He's most likely a decent fourth d.

Edit.

I would agree he's probably be better on our top pairing than Ericsson though.

Kip, Kip, Kip....I did not say they would trade K and Q for Petry and Green. As a matter of fact I specifically wrote that I wasn't saying that within the post. I simply said Q and K and another Roster player will no longer be Wings and Petry and Green will. Plus you absolutely did not understand the alcohol reference, it shows in your reaction post. You were more worried about jumping all over me rather than read what I was saying. That's ok my fellow Winger, I rather enjoy reading your amusing posts and how you like to dig up 10 year old posts and cherry pick words that only support your opinion.

Let's slow this down so you understand me better:

On March 2nd, 2015, I REALLY hope that Q and K along with another roster player are no longer Wings and Petry and Green are. Is that better? Or are you going to interpret this as I think Holland will do a three team trade giving away K and Q and roster player for Green and Petry? I don't care to whom they are traded, I would LOVE to see them NO LONGER ON THIS TEAM. Better? Maybe next time I will use the term Beer Goggles and bring it down the intellectual pole a bit.

Anyone else watch Buffalo @ Montreal? A bit of a statement game for Myers, I think. It was clear right away that the Habs were targeting him, trying to rough him up, get under his skin, throw him off his game. He took it for a couple periods, just played hockey, like a good Red Wing would. But in the third period he pushed back, with genuine anger, meanness, truculence, violence. There was a sequence where I actually thought he'd broken Gallagher in half. He didn't, of course. He just bodyslammed, punched, face-raked, crosschecked, speared, and all-around ragdolled him into the ground, all during gameplay (as opposed to a fight), and all without being called for a penalty. He honestly looked like a young Chara. It was pretty awesome.

How many points did he score?

You win. I'm obviously no match for your otherworldly intellectual sophistication. Please go easy on me in the future. But before you do, explain how we're going to acquire Green and Petry WITHOUT trading Quincey, Kindl, or "another roster player" for them. Also, could you explain what beer goggles (finding ugly people attractive) has to do with what you were saying?

It's a link reporting that Evander Kane was scratched against Vancouver (his home town)

It looks like he might actually be traded this time.

The article didn't dig into the reason he was scratched though so it's a little over hyped but I would love him on the Wings and I think Babcock and his staff could do wonders for his career.

It's hard to imagine what it would take to get him and I love Tats and Gus too much to think about trading them. Hmmmm.

I'm hesitant to post this but with there being a good amount of African American residents in Detroit I've always wished the wings would sign a great black player. I thought it could create a lot of fan buzz around the city. I've wished this for years, all the way back to when Iginla was potting 50 regularly.

Whatever it reportedly takes we'll offer that and someone will slightly outbid us on a package wed do if we were asked.

The last thing T.O wants is for Det to have a good chance at signing Franson long term. You are likely right.

Keith Gave of Fox Sports: (s/t Kulka’s Korner)

Red Wings GM Ken Holland is ready to make a deal, but trade talk has been quiet.

“My history as a manager has been that I’ll pull the trigger and pay the price if there’s a player out there that our scouts, (coach) Mike Babcock — and we think will be a real good fit for us at a price we feel good about,” Holland said in a recent conversation.

The Wings aren’t desperate to make deal despite all the talk of then needing a right-handed defenseman.

“We like our depth. We like our kids,” Holland said, adding that he’s approaching the trade deadline this year like he always does. “I’ll work the phones. I haven’t talked to a lot of teams, but I have talked to a few.”

TSN 1050 radio: Pierre LeBrun: Maple Leafs Cody Franson could get a long-term deal in the $6 to $7 million range if he hit the open market. He was quick to reject a three-year, $4.5 million per year offer from the Leafs last week.

Quick to reject, but still willing to say he wants to stay. Oh, Cody. Yr gonna get paid.
