Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

Ok, blind side hit from behind that knocked him over. It was more his teammates fault by not warning him that Prust was on him. Again, he got knocked down from behind. None of that play is indicative of how good or bad Myers is. But then again, cherry pickers will cherry pick.

I don't need to make a case for how bad Tyler Myers is. His stats already do that for me. He's apparently class president of the Brendan Smith school of puck moving defensemen.

I'm by no means leading the Myers charge, but that was a cheap hit and if Myers wasn't 7'8" or whatever, Prust would be facing a suspension for a blind-sided head shot.

Also, Prust is an epic pos c*#t, so f*** him.

Also, the Habs lost, so f*** them.

But I digress......

Anyone else watch Buffalo @ Montreal? A bit of a statement game for Myers, I think. It was clear right away that the Habs were targeting him, trying to rough him up, get under his skin, throw him off his game. He took it for a couple periods, just played hockey, like a good Red Wing would. But in the third period he pushed back, with genuine anger, meanness, truculence, violence. There was a sequence where I actually thought he'd broken Gallagher in half. He didn't, of course. He just bodyslammed, punched, face-raked, crosschecked, speared, and all-around ragdolled him into the ground, all during gameplay (as opposed to a fight), and all without being called for a penalty. He honestly looked like a young Chara. It was pretty awesome.

Strudwick talked about that too people often forget how long it took Chara to develop his mean streak in the NHL but once he did he became one of the absolute best defenders in the game.

If Myers can even turn into a Chara light his value should sky rocket. Let him bulk up, develop a mean streak and at 27 he is going to ragdoll a lot of people

As far as Leafs fans they will run Kessel out of town soon and according to some of them Nylander is the next coming of Sundin..Franson at 7 per would obviously be too much but something a bit under Niskanen money might get the job done

I'm glad the Habs lost too. They're our competition. But slow that video down at 40-45 seconds. Prust hits him in the side (so I suppose you could say blindside if you want, but it's pretty perpendicular looking to me), and not in the head.

Agreed that Prust hits him in the side. But Myers doesn't see him coming. And not because Myers is the worst player ever. And, like I said, the only reason it wasn't in the head is because Myers is basically Slender Man.

Looking at previous trades for defensemen... man, some in 2010-11 are just ugly:

Alex Goligoski for James Neal and Matt Niskanen
Tomas Kaberle for Joe Colborne, 1st round pick & conditional 2nd round pick

And then you have trades like:

Dennis Wideman for Jake Hauswirth & 3rd round pick.

James Wisniewski for a 2nd and conditional 5th

It's really all over the map...

I wasn't using the video to illustrate that A) Myers is the worst, or B) that Prust isn't dirty. I was using in response to Dabura's "statement"...um...statement. I'm not exactly sure how it's a "statement" to get dominated by dudes a tenth your size for two periods, and then finally act like a big boy in the third after you've given up two goals and been beaten like a mule.

If I wanted to prove Myers was the worst, I'd direct you to his Jonathan Ericsson like numbers or his league worst corsi. If I wanted to prove that Brandon Prust wasn't dirty, I'd be stupid.

I have a question. If we were to acquire Yandle who would you pair him with? Ideally Kronwall but then you have to make one of them play their off side. What if that doesn't work well? Then you habe to either separate DK and Q or put Kronwall or Yandle on the third pair and have three even pairs. That might work but wouldn't it be a lot easier to acquire a RH defenseman.

Holland has made clear he doesn't want a depth signing so he's looking for a top four defenseman. He's also made clear that he wants a puck mover and not a stay at home guy. So whoever he gets is going to be a puck mover in the top four. Now, given that Babs likes to pair one puck mover with one stay at home guy, the likelihood of pairing an acquired defenseman with Kronwall is small. So chances are, it'll either be Quincey or Dekeyser who's bumped from the top four.

Why do we need a puck mover when we already have Kronwall and Brendan Smith???

You really consider Kronwall a stay at home guy? Never thought of him that way myself

Well I read recently, on one of these threads, that his offense is in decline. We should trade for Tyler Myers to fill in the gaps.

Because one offensive defenseman isn't enough?

You two must've missed "The Continued Growth of Brendan Smith" during the first intermission of the last game against the Panthers...

Well hell, if John Keating says it then I'm sold lol. Seriously, I love John Keating.
