Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?

I'd like to see the denial... otherwise, I'm going to go with the word of the three idiots.

Haha, I just signed up for an account over there so that I could troll Malik via my online alter-alter-ego...TheGlistening. It should be good for a laugh once he sees it.

On the record: I can't stand George Malik.

Aaaaaaaand Bob McKenzie denies the rumor after three consecutive idiots (Bryan Yates, Clark Rasmussen, and George Malik) ran with the rumor as if it were true. Malik even going as far as to vouch for the credibility of Yakes, who originated the rumor.

Cautionary Lesson LGW: Next time you find yourself about to post "Holland didn't land player X because the reported asking price was...," remember, those "reported asking prices" are almost always wrong, inflated, and made up by amateur jackasses (bloggers/podcasters).

Not sure if you're talking about me Kip, so I would like to clarify that I posted the link for discussion, but advised to take it with a grain of salt and that it was third hand news.

I know that one of your things is that hypothetical asking prices are always inflated and trades usually involve smaller pieces, so yes, in that sense your cautionary lesson is a good one.

I did not. I've been calling for this swap for quite a while now... because it seemed like something Holland would do. ...but as he's come out and said that it wasn't the type of move he was looking to make, I had kinda backed off on it. At one point earlier in the season I was willing to part with Helm, but as a piece to a bigger trade... not straight up for Petry.

If Edmonton wants a developed defenseman for Jeff Petry, the Red Wings have a couple they could part with. Jakub Kindl is in bad need of a change of scenery and he's signed for another two years at a reasonable cap hit. I think adding a conditional mid-to-late pick (based on whether Petry re-signs) should be enough to get this deal done. I think this is a deal that makes sense for both sides. Edmonton would almost certainly ask for a better return than that, but I think additional value added to the Wings' side would require the same from Edmonton.

Poll
What would you trade for Jeff Petry?
  • Darren Helm
  • Jakub Kindl + a Conditional 4th
  • Something else that I promise to tell you all about in the comments
  • I would not trade for Jeff Petry

The highlighted is exactly why Edmonton should be all over this. Petry isn't likely to re-sign in EDM. Kindl is signed for a reasonable number; not N. Nikitin numbers, or the number they'll be paying out to keep Schultz happy in EDM.

I would include that conditional fourth... and I'm not really of the mindset that Petry should be re-signed. ...but if we were to "strikeout" on other FA acquisitions... Having Petry as an option that's already played in the system, is a MI native, relatively affordable, RH, etc. wouldn't be horrible.

I wasn't talking about you. Really. I was just repeating the post I made a couple days ago cautioning everybody to be careful when repeating these made up asking prices. I totally understand why you posted it, and (for the record) don't think you're an irresponsible poster.

THA GLISTENING

I just gave Malik the "Brian Williams' Fact Checker Award" on his own page lol. I'm going to be soooo disappointed if he doesn't have one of his hissy fits.

I always thought it was reported to be Larkin OR Mantha, not both. Not sure where the idea for both came.

In fact, I just double checked... he says ONE of Mantha or Nyquist, then goes on to speculate about whether or not Detroit would be willing to part with Larkin.

http://www.thescore.com/news/605596

Also, Durren Durgurr speculated on TSN 1040 about a package of Larkin, Kindl and a prospect.

http://www.nicholsonhockey.com/worthreading/2014/11/11/dreger-red-wings-most-persistent-and-consistent-in-myers-pursuit

On the record: I find Darren Dreger to be less and less credible each and every day. He was on top of the Kane-Myers thing yesterday, but he's gotta earn my trust back. I've been hurt too many times.

Yeah, it's already been sorted out. McKenzie never said both. Ever. Just dummies making crap up, and other dummies not using professional scrutiny to fact check.

I don't want to bring in a d unless it's a clear upgrade. Petry isn't. I'd rather go with what we have and let a rookie play.

And it's official, Malik had his freak out lol. In its entirety...

"Excuse me, Bryan has been a trusted source for some time now, and as I was in the middle of work, Winging It asked McKenzie and got the answer before I could…

I’m sorry for “reporting” something that was incorrect, but please note that the headline, REPORT, is journalistic slang for, “THIS IS A REPORT, NOT NECESSARILY GOSPEL TRUTH.”

I’ve made my apology, Bryan has made a Twitter apology, the situation has been rectified. I’m not Brian *#$%@& Williams, and if you don’t like the way I operate, go read another blog.

Rule NUMBER ONE of my job is to not make s*** up—and I didn’t make this up—and rule NUMBER TWO is to cite my sources, which I did. I cited a false report, assuming that the veracity of the report was sound, that was not the case, and I’ve attempted to make amends. If that makes me a fraud in your eyes, you’re barking up a tree with a bear in it."

I'm especially fond of the part where he likens himself to a bear. What a ******.

You baited him pretty good, but his response was pretty juvenile and unprofessional.

Hey man, if you're going to fancy yourself a well spring of public information you'd better be prepared for the sting of public scrutiny. I issue federal government policy statements to the public for a living. You can imagine the kind of lunatics I deal with. I have no sympathy for people who don't check facts before disseminating "information".

Dude it's just a hockey blog. lol Relax.

Don't like his reporting? Don't read his stuff.

I don't really get why you felt so inclined to create an account, post several over the top attacks on him (till he would finally respond to you), and then come here to pat your self on the back with a "see what I did everyone!" attitude.

The whole thing was kind of sad to be honest. And I'm not even a fan of Malik...

Kip, you're such a s***.

Haha, I wouldn't have done that to anybody but Malik. I can't stand that guy. When I rib on Khan or Brendan Savage it's exactly that, me lightheartedly gassing on them. Malik is a different story. He and Helen St. James REALLY get my goat.

Meh.

I look at it this way. While Petry isn't necessarily an upgrade over Kindl, he's a RH defenseman that is at least on par with Kindl.

As Petry's not signed for next year, if he isn't what we're looking for... it's pretty easy to just say, "Thanks for the playoff support, see ya around."

So trade Kindl to EDM in order to free up a roster spot for next year.

Kronwall - Ericsson

Dekeyser - Quincey

Smith -

Then, whether it be an outside more "splashy" FA signing, re-upping with Petry, or promoting a rookie to the active roster full-time, we've at least received something for a guy that's pretty much on the outside looking in...

Rookies are playing: Marchenko is doing well. Oulette is doing well. Both can be sent down without passing through waivers and will be up with the club for the playoffs as Black Aces, but in the meantime, WHY NOT trade out a d-man that might otherwise be waived and claimed for nothing, for some RH depth if Edmonton is willing to bite.

Also, it doesn't mean you still can't get that upgrade on D by trading Smith ...or Quincey ...or Ericsson?

Being an ass online to someone who devotes huge chunks of his spare time to deliver news and write articles to us for free? yeah classy move...

Not really sure how holding him accountable for the things he says in public is "being an ass". Any idiot (including me) in the world is allowed their opinion. And I'd certainly not break Malik's balls over his favorite song, or movie. But when it comes to being a journalist, and Malik has argued over and over that he IS a journalist, you have to be accountable for the things you disseminate for public consumption. And that means fact checking your information BEFORE you make it public, not after.

He should be thanking me. I'm helping him live up to the standards he aspires too. I'm helping him be a better journalist. I'm making Malik be the best that he can be. He owes me big time. I don't think it's a stretch to suggest that I'm personally responsible for every good thing that happens to George Malik from now on.

Don't like Kips posts? Don't read them.

Or read them and relentlessly taunt me. I don't really care. And at the very least I can assure everyone I won't throw a fit and make vague threats about bears in trees.

Whatever you have to tell yourself.

I'm probably responsible for bringing out the very best in you as well. I'm guessing you'll get three extra reps per set on your bench press at the gym tonight. Call it the Kip effect.

You're welcome.
