Maybe , maybe not ... Doubt we called 29 teams asking about nestrasil

Just seems detroit loses players to waivers a lot more than other teams

I think it's because we always seem to have a lot of bottom 6 level talent to waive. No one anyone would trade for but for a free waiver pickup they'd take the risk.

what a ******* waste! Stupid Ken Holland is Stupid! All in the name of Cleary, we lost a promising young kid. This is why I say Holland should just start trading his picks for players again because we have so many kids that are ready to come up, but there is no room for them. May as well stop drafting players until these useless players are off the Wings (Cleary, kindl, Quincey, Franzen...) and there's room to bring up our draft picks instead of wasting them. Jarnkrok, traded. Nestrasal given away for free, so we can keep Cleary and Kindl... I.Am.Pissed.

Who the heck is Piper?

The little girl who reports on the Griffins. Her favorite player is Nestrasil and she unabashedly has a crush on him (for some reason). Look up "Off the Pipes with Piper" on youtube. It's adorable.

Right. I know who you're talking about now. Just didn't click.

I've seen a few of her interviews. One where her and Callahan and Nestrasil were comparing missing teeth. It was awesome.

nestrasil didnt tear it up when he played but he is still young and has a ton of upside. instead of putting him on waivers why the hell did we keep cleary. the guy can barely skate, plays no D. he is a -3 in 3 games. nest was -3 in 13 games. nest skates hard and plays D. so we keep an old used up vet who cant play and get rid of a young kid. makes sense to me.

Well he definitely seems to be showing that his scoring from last season was not a fluke. It's an absolute shame we can't get this kid into the lineup. I think he'd be a beast in front of the net on the PP.

But you're right, they probably were waiting to see what they had at the beginning of the year. The Hurricanes, at least, looked decent on paper.

Agreed. I think he's an automatic upgrade over Andersson/Cleary on the 4th line, and one over Helm as the net presence on the 2nd PP unit.

With him there, they could let Helm get back to working the PK. Throw out Glendening-Miller and Helm-Abs as our two units.

Why are people comparing Nestrasil to Cleary? Cleary isn't the reason Nestrasil got exposed and claimed on waivers. Cleary wasn't going to be waived, nor should he have been. Cleary brings so much more than what he shows on the ice to this team, the experience and leadership he provides, on and off the ice, can't just be replaced, and certainly not by a 23 year old kid. If not Nestrasil, Jurco would have been sent down, and maybe in hindsight that would have been the better choice. But where is all of this upside that everyone sees in Nestrasil? I just don't get it. He was a body on the ice for 13 games, a big body sure, but that's about it. He could barely crack the Grand Rapids line up last season and to be honest should have never cracked our lineup this season. It would have been nice to see him clear and provide some support down in Grand Rapids this year but in reality he probably never would have cracked the Wings lineup on a full time basis, not this year, not next year, not ever. We have a ton of more skilled guys knocking on the door, he will not be missed. We even have a player that we signed in the offseason who is similar in stature but much more skilled, in Tomas Nosek. Good luck in Carolina Nestrasil, unfortunately you will probably end up down in Charlotte after 30 days...

yes. I don't see the big deal about losing this kid, at all.

I think everyone is just frustrated we lost him for nothing. oh well...

they are being compared because cleary should have been waived. i love how people talk about what cleary does off the ice. how would any of you know. are you in the locker room? i dont hear any players talking about how great cleary is. atleast nest wasnt a liability on the ice. he played d and skated hard. cleary cant even move out there. if he is so good as a leader and locker room guy then find a position in management for him. make one up. locker room cheerleader. but the guy only costs us when on the ice and that is stupid to do, i dont care what he does in the locker room

Ok, but let's play a game. Play, Bench, Waive for Cally, Cleary and Nestrail. GO!

Am I the only one that thinks Cleary has looked fine so far this season? Better than Nestrasil even?

No, he has. Even without his two points, I think he's done more in terms of puck protection and keeping it in the offensive zone than some of the others.

wings1940, you clearly haven't been watching Cleary the few games that he has played, and you are just going on blind hate from the past couple years. He has been playing great so far this season, and definitely better than Nestrasil, and Andersson too in my opinion...

He's played the majority of his time with Helm, Jurco and Nestrasil, and played just under 9 minutes a game...

helm and jurco are good players. nest is young and hard worker. and under 9 mins a game yet he still is on the ice for plenty of other teams goals. 4 in 3 games. he is a liability
