While it's a bit before your list, we did take Miller from the Bolts in 2009, and lost Nabokov to the Islanders on entry waivers in 2011.

It took a while to make the list so I thought going back to the beginning of 2010-11 was a large enough sample size. I guess the point of making the list was to show where we stand amongst others teams in terms of losing players to waivers. If you go back farther, every team's totals will probably go up. It was meant as a rebutal to those that thought we have lost a lot of players to waivers or were claiming that Holland wasn't doing his job by letting a player get away.

Yeah, I didn't count Nabokov because he never really was our player. I thought that signing a player from the KHL, and losing him to waivers before he ever plays for team, show a different situation then losing a player when sending them to the AHL. And I thought it was not really relevant to this particular discussion of losing assets. Maybe I should have listed him with an asterix, though. I'm pretty sure that no one else on my list fits that situation, but anyone can let me know if they find one.

Goal in his first game and apparently looks fantastic.

Lol. Please everyone watch the goal replay on the Colorado feed. Hilarity ensues when the guy tries to pronounce his name.

I'd like to say I'm shocked but I'm not ... He's gonna be a pleasant surprise for Carolina and with mantha and others coming up I'm not super pissed but dissapointed we couldn't even get a 7th round pick Edited by nyqvististhefuture

Nestrasil is going to be a pleasant surprise for the canes? Based on what? 1 game with them? Cause he wasn't anything special in our minor or pro system.

He got better the last few seasons and really produced the last 30-35 games(pts wise) with the griffins last year and continued it during the pre season , thus forcing us to give him some regular season action

Now you can say he didn't do anything here but a lot of guys when he started getting benched were doing nothing as well ... Jurco just got his first goal and Tatar went on this great run after we seen the last of nestrasil as well as sheahan picking it up also

I'd rather he'd still be here than say cleary .... Is losing him a big deal? Not with mantha bertuzzi pulkkinen etc... Coming , I'd rather we got a pick at least for him

Now as potential ? With Carolina playing a full season I can see him getting 10-15 goals ... Time will tell

OHHHHNOOOOEEEESSSSS! WhY dindt HOLLAND get ANYTHING FOR HIM!??!?!

He scored. Big whoop. How many players get dealt/picked up/etc. and then go on in their first game to score.

It happens... it's supposed to. Players score goals in this game.

Also, it's how waivers work... Player gets waived, claimed, wants to make an impression on his new team, really goes out and hustles and scores in his first game. (Not to say that Nesty didn't work hard here or want to make an impression.)

As far as the goal goes was it an Amazing goal? No. Beautiful goal? No. Spectacular goal? No.

It was a solid, hard working goal that is almost a bit flukey/soft... and I'm trying to give Nestrasil as much credit as possible... but this was the third goal Berra gave up in the first period. He was immediately pulled and commentators said that Berra had looked "shaky from the start"

(yes, I was flipping channels on CenterIce because the Wings were having such a wonderful outing last night.)

Of course we'd all love him over Cleary, but everyone should know by now that is not going to ******* happen EVER with Babcock and Holland.

Yes, I do blame them both!

Also, why would teams offer us anything if they know there's a likelihood that we're going to waive him and they can get him for nothing?

Carolina has A LOT of holes, they can take a chance on this kid in their line-up and send some of their younger players back down for more time in the minors.

Teams "know" that we don't want to send Jurco back down, even though he's still got waivers. Teams "know" that we're not going to waive Cleary... or even if we did... he'd be playing for the Griffins not getting picked up. So they wait, and they see players hit that waiver list and they grab them.

Everyone needs to stop over-valuing a guy that's a currently a mid-tier prospect at the very most.

Its just the sting of losing him for nothing because we have Cleary. If the Wings had signed Iginla, Heatley or someone that is a factor in games night in and night out, the sting would be far less if we had to expose Nestrasil to waivers. But, we lost him beacause Cleary is on the roster. Period. That is what stings the most. Most of us hated the Cleary re-signing, and now that it cost us Nestrasil (and think about it, it could have cost us Ferraro AND Callahan earlier in the season) for nothing in return, people are a bit bitter when he scores a goal in his first game that he is given good minutes to play. True, with the likes of Mantha, Pulkinnen, et al. coming up soon, we probably won't really miss Nestrasil, even though we did lose him to waivers, it's just that we lost him to protect Cleary. :puke:

Damned if you do, fool me twice if you don't. It's just that damn Cleary guy...

Guys, this is an important bit of information that I think has been missed.

Nestrasil = "not scared" in Czech language.

This guy is the real deal.

/sarcasm

In all seriousness, it sucks to lose a kid that has size and some offensive ability, hard worker, etc but it's not the end of the world. This is a result of Kenny always trading 1 draft pick into 2 picks and our excellent development systems training these kids to be good hockey players. Our farm system is full with no room on the NHL team. We've lost Nestrasil and Jarnkrok and it still seems the farm is full. As a whole, I think this could be managed a bit better by Kenny and Co to avoid losing talent for (almost) nothing.

People still complaining about Cleary is absolutely hilarious. How about you actually go watch a Wings game, or if you do really watch the games, turn off your blind hate just for a couple hours and "really" watch the game. Cleary has been great, and when I say great I'm obviously not talking about "all-star" calibre great, I'm saying he has been a great bottom six guy. His skating has improved 100%, he is giving 110% effort like he always has, and he's actually having a positive impact on the games. Cleary > Nestrasil every day of the week for me... for Babcock... for Holland... and for every other player in that locker room...

I have watched ... And yes he hasn't been horrible but his days are also numbered and with his bum knees he can go out any moment , I'm not counting on cleary on being there come playoff time

Anyways it's done now just sucked we got nothing ... I'm just hoping we call up pulkkinen real soon and then mantha depending how he keeps doing

s*** on Cleary all you want. ...and I certainly did this off-season. I didn't think he had a whisper of a prayer in making this roster let alone being a guy that has made his time worthwhile.

So, a nice helping of crow for me. Sure. Serve it on a big ******* platter.

...but HEATLEY?!!! GTFOH.

Thanks for the perspective, but seriously... I took a serious dump on the guy, the signing, and everything that had anything to do with Danny Cleary in the off-season. ...and I like the guy.

...just thought he had NO BUSINESS getting a wiff of this season's roster. ...and well, he hasn't been too shabby. Still falls down a lot though... #CLEARSDOWN

I know it was basically garbage time, but cleary was out when we were down two and he had a chance to shoot and took a backhand that hit skates, then completely missed a pass, and blah blah blah.

His only noticeable shift to me was a bad one.

But honestly.

There wasn't many bright spots so picking him out if the line up to rag on is just dumping s*** on top of a septic tank.

So whatevs.

He has been better for us than nestrasil was, that's for sure.

But I think theres a few in gr who would be a lot better for us.
