Why is Kindl not playing?

Why is Kindl not playing after he scored two power play goals? I know he isn't a great defensemen but does Babs really believe in Lashoff that much? I think something has to be going on behind the scenes, with either a trade coming or issues between Kindl and Babs. Why is no one talking about this???

I don't think it's that he believes in Lashoff that much, just Kindl that little. It's just one of many times Kindl lost his spot on the roster.

Babcock benching him during a game was a surprising move though.

I don't live in Detroit anymore, but the media does seem pretty quiet about it. Like has anyone asked Babcock directly about Kindl?

Welcome to LGWs

We are talking about this here and there. Just haven't dedicated an entire thread to it.

For example, a couple of us just commented on the situation in tonight's Game Day Thread.

I remember seeing Khan say that Babcok refused to comment on it. Sorry I can't find the link.

As bad as Kindl is, Lashoff is worse. The only difference is Lashoff doesn't have the bonehead giveaways and penalties. Hopefully Ouellet can earn a spot moving forward and we can trade Kindl to the KHL, we could probably use him in my beer league too, just get him out of Detroit.

Kindl is exactly the opposite of a "Mike Babcock-type" player. Especially a defenceman.

Soft, doesn't use his size, weak along the boards, inconsistent, prone to defensive lapses...

That's not to say Kindl doesn't have some talent. He's an NHLer, but will most likely find more success in a different system.

Hopefully this equals more PP time for Smith. He got a taste of some last game.

It's bizarre. The guy puts up three points in two games - looks like he's turning a corner. Has a rough outing in Tampa, an even worse one in Chicago. He must have said something stupid.

I wouldn't hold my breath hoping for Smith on the PP, either. Seems to me that Babs is looking for someone who can hold the blueline and control the play. In that regard, I think DK is better than Smith. Smith has better offensive instincts, but DK has better poise with the puck. As much as I'd love to see him quarterback the 2nd PP, I have to admit, I have visions of him losing the puck and the PK'ers going on breakaways.

It's strange to me because while I still am not a fan of Kindl and have given up on him developing into something than a bottom pairing guy, he still doesn't seem nearly as atrocious as he did last year.

That's because he isn't. Kindl is somewhere between the player he was two years ago and the one we saw last year.

Dekeyser already plays on the PP a ton. We need more then two defencemen logging PP time.

It won't be Quincey/Ericsson/Lashoff that's for sure. Smith it is.

Or hopefully Ouellet...

They've gone with the 1-3-1 all year on the PP, and it doesn't seem like they're going to change that. They're using Datsyuk, Z, Mule and Abs on one unit, Tatar, Sheahan, Jurco and Helm on the other. Unless they change up that 2nd unit, they're only using two defenders on the PP, total.

I think a big part of why he hasn't been as bad is him not being paired with Lashoff as much, and he's getting a ton of offensive zone starts.

Babcock was being careful in how he utilized him.

Though I don't know what exactly Kindl did to muck that up and play his way off the roster again.

He had yo of said something that got back to Babcock, or to Babcock.

He was having an off game vs Tampa like everyone else, but to willingly put yourself down to 5 d for an off night doesn't seem likely.

I was hoping it was because they had a trade set up and that team had a game they wanted him to play the next night, but seeing as nothing happened, that's not the case.

He must've ran his mouth, in which case, its good babs is hushhush about it.

That's actually a majority of the team. Except the defensive part.

Jakub Kindl is likely available via trade if the Red Wings are bringing up strong rookie Xavier Ouellet to play against Winnipeg and bypassing Kindl, who has really never got traction as an integral part of Detroit’s blue-line. “Only Kindl I know that can’t read (plays),” said a sarcastic pro scout.

 Ouch
