Go Wings go

As far as Pierre McGuire is concerned...his greatest strength can be his greatest weakness and it's nothing to do with his physical appearance.

His passion for the game is unrivaled in broadcasting but man does he get just downright gitty over some players and teams.

It can get cringe-worthy and to the point the players just look weirded out at times.

I actually like the guy, just wish he would tone it down sometimes.

My opinion is pretty much this.

This is what I'm worried about. I'm afraid he's not being put in a position to succeed by being on the wing, so I hope he's at least given time to acclimate before he's benched, rather than expecting immediate success out of him.

I was mostly just being a smart ass, but I agree with your concerns. However, I'll wait to judge whether he's being put into a position to succeed until after Datsyuk is back. I don't mind where he's at now because you really don't want to break up the Zetterberg or Sheahan lines. So give him a few games to find his legs on the wing. But once those tops lines are broken up anyway (as they will be when Datsyuk returns) then I'd like to see him centering his own line.

Edit: For grammar

I was going to complain that Weiss is starting on left wing and isn't being put in a position to succeed, but you convinced me.

I'l wait and see what he does when Datsyuk is back and the roster adjusts accordingly.

Make that two. The only guy from the NBC crew that annoys me is Edzo. Pierre and Doc Emrick are both great and IMHO better than Ken and Mickey.

And now it's a bandwagon of two. Come on board ladies and gentlemen. There's plenty of room.

I tend to have that effect on people...unless I'm talking about Smith, Babcock, or Pierre McGuire apparently.

I didn't realize that many people really hated Pierre. I think of him as kind of a goofball more than anything else, but the guy knows hockey.

Yes he knows hockey, but as I said he annoys me, not because he looks weird, but because he IS weird. He often times (as pointed out) makes people feel very awkward and weirded out. Some of his comments are borderline and some are downright creepy. There are a few videos on YouTube that are solely those moments. As someone pointed out he favors or idolizes certain players, which I usually take as him favoring the team with Eddie. If the dropped Eddie I would probably be able to stomach the nbc crew, but Pierre is still a creep to me and always will be.

Ah yes, the aforementioned favoritism.

Like that time he said...

“I believe in Mike Babcock, I believe he’s the best coach in the league,” McGuire said. “I believe in Jimmy Howard, I believe he’s the most underrated goalie in the league. I believe in Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk, I think they’re probably the two most underrated superstars in the league.” - http://tbd.radio.cbssports.com/2013/05/08/pierre-mcguire-its-going-to-be-a-reach-for-islanders-to-eliminate-penguins/

Or

"I can't wait to see what Mike Babcock's young speedy Red Wings are going to be like because I think they're going to be extremely good." - http://www.freep.com/story/sports/nhl/red-wings/2014/10/09/octopus-garden-detroit-red-wings/16955973/

Or this scathing prediction of the current season

"Eddie talked about there’s a limitation on defense, and I would agree with him on that, but I’m with Doc on Brendan Smith being able to take his game to another level. They’ve got a couple young guys on the way, Xavier Ouellet is a tremendous young player out of the Quebec Junior League that’s done some time in Grand Rapids playing for Jeff Blashill, and they also have Nick Jensen out of St. Cloud State, who I think has a chance to be extremely good. And then finally, Ryan Sproul out of the Ontario Hockey League, so actually they’ve got some guys that aren’t NHL names yet that have a chance to be very good NHL names, but the one up‑and‑coming, you talk about breakthrough players, I hope he gets Anthony Mantha. I think he’s got a chance to be really special for the Red Wings." - http://nbcsportsgrouppressbox.com/2014/10/01/transcript-nbc-sports-group-nhl-face-off-conference-call/

Favoritism indeed.

Redmond is my guy. I really enjoy the way he can see plays develop before they happen. His constant berating of the refs used to bother me (which he has toned down) but the refs are truly awful and inconsistent. Make up calls should not exist, call a penalty if it's a penalty.

I agree with this. I've lived in Vancouver my entire life, obviously grew up watching tons of hockey on Canadian broadcasts and listening to those guys on Sportsnet, TSN and CBC are what I was used to. Finally I bought gamecenter a few years back so I could watch every Red Wings game possible and anytime my (Canadian) buddies and family are watching a FSD feed with me they find it so dull lol. Personally, I love Micky, I think he's great every time he is on and love his homerism (reminds me of Shorty on all of the sportsnet Vancouver game broadcasts). I find Ken Daniels good, but not great I do love some of his really exciting calls like on late game winners or over time wins and I believe Daniels has actually gotten better over the years.

Some of the guys are absolutely unredeemable though, Osgood is just utter crap on the air. Sorry hate to say it lol.
