Saluting the fans

I don't mind the saluting after every game, but I wouldn't be hurt if they didn't either. I do enjoy it after a tough OT win or something though. I showed my girlfriend when Zetterberg saluted the fans by making a heart earlier in the season because I thought it was a pretty cool moment.

He was actually doing the heart for his wife in the crowd. I was at that game.

I don't think the players should have to salute the fans. It's a nice thing to do, but as a fan I really don't care.

If I was a Maple Leafs player, I wouldn't want to salute the Leaf fans either. However, if I was a player, I wouldn't want to play in Toronto. The fans and media never give you a minute to yourself. I live in the Toronto area, everyday the major media outlets need multiple Leaf stories, even if it's the middle of summer.

That's kind of the same with the NFL or NBA here in the US.

EVERY TIME I have Espn on there's always something from both the nfl and nba. In season or not it don't matter....

The saluting the fans thing is neither here nor there to me.

I admire fans like those of the Leafs and those of the Lions and other teams who stick with them through thick and thin, through more losses than wins, good players, owners, coaches and bad. I think there's only very few professional sports organizations who really "don't care" and dump star players because they're too cheap and have no interest in building a winner. I know many believe it's as simple as getting good players, hire the right coaches, draft well, get the best scouts...but that's easier said than done. It isn't like the Leafs haven't spent money.

I think if you want to talk fickle, arrogant and entitled fans, look no further than right here. Getting into the playoffs now has become a big yawn and it's wake me when we get to the Conference finals mentality. Who cares if we've won 4 Cups, we can't miss the playoffs, we have to be contenders for the Cup every. single. year. Every decent free agent must sign with us and if they don't fire Holland, what's that guy ever done anyway? In the late 90s, there were thousands on a wait list to get season tickets, now they're running ads during games to get your seats for this great up coming game and throwing in all the gimmicks to boot. Don't even get me started on the faux "sellouts".

The long suffering Maple Leafs' fans ought to be saluted each and every game for being the most fickle, arrogant, and entitled group of fans in all of professional hockey. Hard to imagine why a guy like Phil Kessel wouldn't be interested in saluting a bunch of folks who were calling for his head after a 37 goal, 80 point season. Ditto for Kadri. And Reimer.

There's only one salute these s***birds deserve, and it involves something other than a stick in the air.

Maple Leafs fans, you are the problem.

Except Kadri and Reimer really do suck...

Washington fans call for Ovi the last 3 years, they must have terrible fans. We call for Howard everytime someone scores, we must be terrible fans.

Every fanbase has terrible fans, not just the Laughs. I go to lots of games in Toronto, sure some fans are arrogant and stupid but it's easy to point up to the 1967 banner in the rafters and the empty space beside it. They do have some fantastic fans as well, they are very knowledgeable and passionate about their team.
