AtlantaHotWings 897 Report post Posted November 24, 2014 I don't hate Cleary but don't see him keeping his spot on the team after all the injuries heal. But when he does things like this makes me feel better about him wearing the wheel a bit longer. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/11/seven-year-old_transplant_reci.html 6 canadian wings fan, derblaueClaus, 55fan and 3 others reacted to this

frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted November 24, 2014 Just a great thing, kid will remember this day for the rest of his hopefully long and healthy life. Way to go Danny
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted November 24, 2014 Not surprising...Danny more or less 'grew up' in Detroit after he bombed in Chicago/Edmonton/Phoenix. Even though his best playing years are behind him; I could see him as part of the Wings organization down the road. I think he could be a good coach one day
Wings_Toledo 233 Report post Posted November 24, 2014 I think he could be a good coach one day I could definitely see him in some sort of "youth development" role. Considering how all of the players talk about him as a mentor and a leader, etc.
TheXym 2,606 Report post Posted November 25, 2014 Big ups to Danny for this. In the comments, Brendan Savage said the story tip did NOT come from Cleary or the Wings.

Guest Playmaker Report post Posted November 25, 2014 Cleary was interviewed for the story and discussed it. Maybe the reporter found out about it from somewhere else, but Cleary clearly didn't mind talking about it. Not that there's anything wrong with that. While these stories are always great and I love how charitable the Wings seem to be, I try and keep it "just business". I gotta be honest, I'd still rather have an ******* who can play the game than a nice guy who can't.

It's awesome when you hear about these guys doing things like this........good guy! I don't think that's ever the case. From everyone I've seen post people respect cleary for literally giving WVERYTHING he has. But most realize it's time for him to move on. That still doesn't change the things that he has done for the team city or fans.

If I go back to the thread of when he was signed, I guarantee you that is not the case. I would post examples, but I don't want to turn this into what I hate. Again because we feel it's time for him to move on....unless Babcock uses him like he is. 13th or 14th forward is the way he should be used. He will stay healthier and actually able to contribute in a positive way.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted November 25, 2014 Good for him. There are a lot of things in life that a person can do to make the world a better place, but not a lot of people make the time or effort to do them. 1 puckloo39 reacted to this
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted November 25, 2014 I am a Cleary fan, even with the knowledge that he must step aside soon for the younger kids. In the meanwhile, he brings veteran presence to the locker room, and intangibles like heart and desire. He's contributing. Bravo, Daniel. 2 krsmith17 and kliq reacted to this
LeftWinger 4,908 Report post Posted November 25, 2014 As much as I despise him as a player, he is afterall, human. And a very caring and giving human at that! Very Cool. 1 55fan reacted to this
Barrie 900 Report post Posted December 1, 2014 If I go back to the thread of when he was signed, I guarantee you that is not the case. I would post examples, but I don't want to turn this into what I hate. Right, there was a lot of people upset when Cleary was signed. I didn't see how a 1 year $1.5 Million deal for a guy who's done a lot for the organization was a bad move. It's better for Cleary to be a healthy scratch then a young player who can get playing time in Grand Rapids. It allows Cleary to leave the game with his head held high, instead of being kicked to the curb. Also it shows the Red Wings are a classy organization. 2 kliq and krsmith17 reacted to this
