To be fair Bowman used to say the same thing.

I'm sure no coach would say NOT to do those things. But there was obviously a much heavier emphasis on offense under Bowman. It should be remembered that Scotty ALWAYS chose more offense over less. Couldn't pile enough scorers on his teams. Even one dimensional scorers.

Babs is a defense first coach. Which is fine. But when you're losing games 2-1, or 3-1, and you need more production a viable strategy is not to tell your fourth line (which you've got playing 15-17 minutes a night to maintain that stingy defense) to shoot more and go to the net.

Babs has got a TON of scoring ability on this team right now. And while they haven't shown that they can keep it up all season, they have shown recently that they've got more offense to give. Giving up a goal more per game on defense, but gaining almost two more per game on offense isn't such a bad idea. But it requires a better game plan than "shoot more and go to the net". Which I think is what Rick Zombo was suggesting.

Rynnas is going to be in net for Dallas. Anything less than 5 goals from the Wings is unacceptable. You hear me, Glendening!? Hat trick!

As if this guy isn't going to stand on his head tonight.

Three things Wings fans can always count on:

1. If the opposing starting goalie is a rookie or hasn't been playing well, they will play lights out against Detroit

2. If the opposing team has a player that hasn't scored his first NHL goal yet, he will score it against Detroit.

3. If a player has only scored 4 goals in his last 92 games or something, he will score against Detroit.

His first game with Dallas, but he has been playing quite well with the baby Stars so far this season... Only 3 NHL starts under his belt with an 0.846 save percentage. Watch him play lights out against us tonight...

And that's exactly why Luke "Our Secret Weapon" Glendening is going to be doing most of the scoring. Sure, Rynnas could play lights out against Nyquist and Z, but Glendening's off-speed stuff will throw him for a loop.

I'm with zombo, I don't even have a second favorite team let alone enjoy watching good players against the wings. I'll watch them play well against other teams.

That's ok but given some of the Wings weaknesses I love to watch other teams that bring that element to their game. Dallas may not be a hardnosed team but Benn really hits all cylinders...offensive stud, physical, grit and a hardnosed type of game and I like watching that. Do I wish to see both guys exploding against the Wings ? For sure not but I'm also not going to pretend that I don't watch other teams. Heck I even watched the Leafs thanks to Colton Orr, Frazer and Frazer McLaren I just like that type of heavy game.

it's just a matter of preferences I think, I'll always cheer for the Wings but it's no secret that some other teams are more entertaining in my mind.

How many people would have predicted we'd have members here hoping that Cleary would play ahead of anyone on the roster?

I love that he has played well enough for us to hope that lol. Yay depth!

I was hoping for Lindback, he's been atrocious the last few years.

Pretty sure I read either today or yesterday that Dallas waived him.

Bowman was certainly more offensive minded but he did have a similarly simplistic message. He also had similar expectations on the defensive play of his forwards. I think Bowman just saw the game better. Sometimes it feels like Babcock is coaching inside a bubble, he knows a lot about the game, but doesn't have the flexibility Bowman did, it's more of a stubborn "this is the game plan, work it until it works."

Bowman also had (at least with us) world class offensive defenseman, and I'll maintain our biggest issue is puck transition.

Does anyone know where you can find stats like who on the wings has scored the most goals against a certain team?

I'm trying to figure it out with my buddy who is a stars fan.

Thanks for all the responses to my question. You all have been very helpful. =)

I'm going to assume no one knows... lol

I think Babs is recognizing the team can score goals but want this group to realize that in the long haul it's not about who scores the most, it's about keeping the puck out of the net. I loved the comeback against Winnipeg as much as the next fan, but in reality,, in the playoffs if that happens you are are not going to come back against good teams. So i dont think its so much he dosnt want them to score as it is he wants them to disicpline their game so it pays divedends when goals are at a premium.

I have a dress rehearsal where I'm singing with one group and playing bass with three others tonight, so I will be late for this one. I will be checking in on the wifi when I can, so any detailed recap of the action will be greatly appreciated.

Let's Go Wings!

You could look up split stats, but you'd be looking at certain players. So you'd have to check individually.

For example, Zetterberg: http://www.hockey-reference.com/players/z/zettehe01/splits/

Best that 30 seconds of Googling could do. Hope it's helpful.
