kipwinger 8,458 Report post Posted December 15, 2014 Why would Lowe be fired? He knows a thing or two about winning. Lol. I remember that. What a s*** bag.
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted December 15, 2014 Paul MacLean would be a great hire, but he's never get the job. He might actually hold the players accountable. 1 F.Michael reacted to this
kipwinger 8,458 Report post Posted December 15, 2014 Nobody can hold the players accountable because management will always take the players' side, and particularly the high end pick players' side. They'll just keep bringing in coaches, who will in turn try to get these prima donnas to play a real game of hockey, there will be a backlash from said players, and the coach will get fired. Wings_Toledo 233 Report post Posted December 15, 2014 All I know is that I don't want to see the Oilers end up with Connor McDavid. As the most hyped prospect since Crosby, I'd actually like to see this kid get a shot at becoming a star player on a team that's actually trying to rebuild instead of languishing in Edmonton and wasting the first 3 years of his career. 2 frankgrimes and rick zombo reacted to this
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted December 15, 2014 Oilers workflow for future success: 1. Fire everyone in upper management 2. Hire Paul Fenton if you can lure him away from Nashville's assistant GM position 3. Trade Hall, N-Hopkins, Eberle, Yakupov, for first round picks 4. Draft McDavid and rebuild properly
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted December 15, 2014 Nothing will change for the Oilers until the front office is gone. 1 haroldsnepsts reacted to this
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted December 15, 2014 Nothing will change for the Oilers until the front office is gone. Exactly. They need to clean house. And then they need to hire a guy like Fenton who, working under Poile, knows how to draft the right players and how to develop them.
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) Andy Grabia @agrabia I love the Oilers. Ex-captain becomes coach, is fired as coach, then brought back as GM. He then fires coach, and makes himself coach. Pretty much this. frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted December 15, 2014 Katz is now paying Tambellini, Krueger and Eakins wow that's a lot of money They should hire the Walrus and trade Yakupov for size and grit

frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted December 16, 2014 Why would Lowe be fired? He knows a thing or two about winning. And only one guy in the current NHL management knows more about winning than him because Sather has more rings
e_prime 1,936 Report post Posted December 16, 2014 And only one guy in the current NHL management knows more about winning than him because Sather has more rings ...and when was the last time he "managed" the Rags to a Cup? 1 rick zombo reacted to this
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted December 16, 2014 ...and when was the last time he "managed" the Rags to a Cup? Sather? Never. Neil Smith was GM in 94. And he learned his thing or two with the Wings. In fact, I believe he scouted Lidstrom and was a big part of the Wings stealing him in the 3rd round. So yeah, Sather and Lowe can both suck it. Who's the most relieved man in Canada right now? Colin Firth? 2 kipwinger and derblaueClaus reacted to this
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted December 16, 2014 Wheel of mediocrity is amazing in Edmonton. MacT bring them one game away from the Cup, then coaches so bad he eventually gets canned, then he replaces the guy who canned him and fires Edmonton's coach, hires Eakins, shows him the door and now he's the coach again until Nelson is ready. What a joke.

His first move was totally classless and unrespectful to the former Edmonton greats (removing their pictures from the locker room) and then introducing his "swarm defense" There will be a presser tomorrow at 10:00 am with Eakins from Rextall should be interesting

thegerkin 189 Report post Posted December 16, 2014 I feel mixed about Nelly taking the job. First, he's a cool guy and is one of the smarter coaches out there. I watched him for years in Muskegon and Grand Rapids and have a few pictures of us after the Muskegon Fury won the UHL Colonial Cup. He's coached at all levels. But... it's Edmonton. Eakins deserved to be fired. I just hope Nelly can turn the Oilers around, but this season is lost. I know it's only interim but maybe that's a good thing for him

derblaueClaus 1,668 Report post Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) Colin Firth? I guess this is footage from Eakins explaining his coaching then : I was one of the guys who thought he would do well but boy have I been wrong. His first move was totally classless and unrespectful to the former Edmonton greats (removing their pictures from the locker room) and then introducing his "swarm defense" There will be a presser tomorrow at 10:00 am with Eakins from Rextall should be interesting The last thing the Oilers need right now is more respect and awe for their former success. Eakins had the right idea even if this action may have been a little bit too blunt. Edited December 16, 2014 by derblaueClaus
