Oilers schedule presser tomorrow

I feel mixed about Nelly taking the job. First, he's a cool guy and is one of the smarter coaches out there. I watched him for years in Muskegon and Grand Rapids and have a few pictures of us after the Muskegon Fury won the UHL Colonial Cup. He's coached at all levels. But... it's Edmonton. Eakins deserved to be fired. I just hope Nelly can turn the Oilers around, but this season is lost. I know it's only interim but maybe that's a good thing for him :)

Babcock to edm as a coach/gm?

Lol

Bettman persuades Babock & he goes to coach/gm Edmonton. Toronto is outraged by the news (they already had dibs on babs) and begins to riot.. Vancouver, not wanting to be outdone, would try to outriot Toronto. Both of them trying to top the other eventually causes Canada to implode. All of the hockey players get out in time and are deemed free agents by the league. The best players sign with the worst teams that are left. All goes according to plan and bettman finally has the parity he's always dreamed of. Babcock emerges from the ashes better than ever and coaches the wings to three straight Stanley Cups.

....and then I wake up :P

you dont say...

add in jurco/nyquist, remove kindl with smith/dekeyser and replace andy with helm and that might be enough.

I still don't think that'd get him.

I was joking.

But I think if they're going to actually trade him it'll either be for way too Much, or he really is uncoachable and they trade him for the highest offer.

Lol that may have been underpayment but that is MAJOR overpayment... You're saying that a package of Smith / DeKeyser, Nyquist / Jurco, Pulkkinen, and a first MIGHT get Taylor Hall?... Wow...

yes it is an overpayment but why would they trade theyre best player for anything else?

I'm not saying I'd do this at all its just likely what it would take

Hall is an elite player.

The Tyler Seguin trade is the closest possible comparable to a Hall trade (considering their ages, career stats, draft pedigree, etc.). Seguin, along with Peverly and Ryan Button were traded for Loui Eriksson, The Good Smith, Matt Fraser, and Joe Morrow.

So Boston got a 20+ goal (70 pt.) winger, an up and coming roster player, a bottom sixer, and a pretty good prospect for a Seguin, a journeyman defenseman, and a third rate prospect.

As such, I'd say if you wanted Hall you'd be looking at giving up Nyquist, Jurco/Sheahan, plus a middling prospect. They wouldn't need Pulkkinen too, and they wouldn't need a pick.

If that's the asking price I say "no thanks". Hall is a REALLY good winger, but I wouldn't want to lose the center depth (Sheahan) since we're thin on the ground. I'd do that package for Seguin, but not Hall.

I would think in a non-Red Wing Rape NHL, a package of Smith, Helm and Pulkkinen would get Hall here. But if he is uncoachable in Edmonton, put him back in his old junior stomping ground, he just may go off the deep end being around all his old party buddies. Maybe he just wants out of Edmonton and that is why he is uncoachable there...maybe Babcock would be able to handle him...although he couldn't reel in Fedorov in Anaheim...

Dallas gave up more for Sequin, but they also got two more players back. We'd only be getting Hall back, so that is why it should take a bit less. They'd get Helm (he'd be closer to home) and Smith, both established NHL players, yet still young enough to be part of a build in Edmonton. Then they get a young top prospect in Pulkkinen.

to EDM : Darren Helm, Brendan Smith, Teemu Pulkkinen

to DET : Taylor Hall

We have plenty of players to replace all three players leaving us. Sheahan, Ouellet, Mantha to be exact.

Kip, I do agree with you that that is probably what the asking price would be, and I also agree on saying "no thanks". However, I don't understand why you insist on always calling Brendan, Reilly's brother, and referring to Reilly as "the Good Smith". Reilly is a pretty decent player but I do think that Brendan is better. Defense is a much harder position to play at the NHL level, I don't need to tell you that. Brendan's overall skillset is far superior to Reilly's in my opinion. He is bigger, nastier and is a better skater. Reilly of course puts up more points, as he should being a forward, but you act like he's the better player of the two. He is not.

Simple. To irritate people who REALLY like Smith. It's my way of having fun at your expense lol.

Oil fell to the Flames last night 4 - 1. Nine games and counting.

MacT needs to make a trade -- whether he gets fair value or not -- or he's going to be the next domino to fall.

I'd still take Petry off of their hands. Petry for Kindl straight up.

Oilers get a D-man signed for two more years at a reasonable price, we get a righty who's looking to get out of EDM.

Cheaper than Green or Meyers or Yandle or anyone else for that matter.

Why not?

They continue to struggle...

MacT doesn't have the balls to trade Hall, or Eberle, or RNH...

He doesn't even have the balls to trade Yak.

Petry and Perron have been on the block all season and yet here they are still on the team.

If he's desperate to keep his job... He'll move guys that don't want to be there for guys he can keep there... if not by choice, but by current contract.

They are that desperate. Nine losses in a row. Their last win was Dec 7th. They haven't strung together a winning streak of any sort this year. The last time they won back to back games was all the way back to Nov 7th.

A month at a time for a win. (...or if they're lucky two.)

They need an upgrade of any sort at C behind RNH.

Boyd Gordon isn't a second line center. Draisaitl is a frigging child.

They need better D. Schultz is the lone bright spot. He needs help.

They need better goaltending.

How Bachman hasn't gotten a chance is beyond me...

Have I stated clearly enough how desperate they should be?

So let me restate the case for Kindl to EDM for Petry:

Does Petry for Kindl straight up happen? Sure. Why not?

MacT knows that Petry is not going to re-sign in Edmonton next year... he trades him for Kindl who's signed for another two years for a reasonable price... He's doing something... ANYTHING.

It shows the league, "Hey, MacT is ready to make some moves... EDM is open for business."

To make things even more clear, because I know it's the stumbling block for all of you:

Just because Kindl is our whipping boy doesn't mean he's completely worthless.

There. I said it. He isn't.

Is he great? No, but he's just one piece in a multitude of issues that exist on our defense.

I don't see why not. Hell, throw Q in there to sweetin the pot up. I always said Helm would automatically become their best defensive forward plus he'd be an upgrade at the center position behind Hopkins. K, Q and Helm for Petry and a 2nd round pick.

I get that trading Helm allows us to bring up Pulks and that trading Q allows us to keep XO up, but I think that's a tad bit of an overpayment. Although that 2nd round pick would be quite nice the way EDM is trending.

Ya, that is what I am thinking, we don't really lose much dumping Q for XO, and Helm is just a deal sweetener to help them at C and defensively up front. If we could get Petry and a 2nd for just K and Q I'd be all in too, but take Helm out of the deal and it doesn't look like a very good deal...unless, of course Edmonton gets that desperate.

also losing that extar $5M+ in Q and K would go a long way in re-siging Nyquist. Not to mention Petry, Smith, Jurco and Andersson, Jensen AND Pulkkinen...

Does this not seem like a bit much for Petry? I mean there HAS to be better D men available at the deadline.
